Your probably right about the Watigans on weekends, I tried not to work on the weekends when i was down there, and I s’pose the truth in general about state forests is that there would be more vehicles through the weedays as many people work in the forest for a 6.00-4.00 job. Mate of mine was over today he’s a parkie with NPWS and he was giving me the heads up that they’ve (rangers) got bikes now and doing weekend patrols, these blokes are special constables, and he reckons the 4wders and MXers are wrecking it for all.

Mr Rat, dissention is good, it’sd where good ideas are born, and I was probably exagerating about all year, depends on how many rides I do, but 10-12 medium rides on gearbox oil, would be rule of thumb, this year that would be about my total so far.
And logic, who’s using logic, I just do stuff cause some bloke at the pub told me to….
PS graphics came up great ta for that Bud.

I don’t think DXIII has anywhere near the lubrication properties of dedicated gear oil, and as T/B stated all of us who have run it change it frequently, probably every 2-3 rides, whereas dedicated gear oil would go all year and be changed at coolant time.
Another point is what type of bike, my choice of off-road bike is light, turns on a dime, with instant “hit”, not a huge amount of torque to wind up the gearbox, or to cause “gear-climb”, therefore the oil shear issues are lesser than say a hussie 570 or tt600, in my style of bike I can get away with a light “slippery oil” but if I was running a big-bore 4T I’d be using a good quality mainstream lubricant. Now having said all that my old kato 300 disliked the ATF, but loved the Mobil light.Horses for tracks methinks.
Now T/B what’s your next bike gunna be?, and got the M/cyl all good, fitted it up last night, thanks mate absolutely tops.
Now let’s talk brake fluids…..

Stuff the kato, just another orange bike with bling, dime a dozen round here….. what’s he doing with the WMW?

No don’t get Boony, he needs all the HELP he can get, remember he rides a DRZ, so maybe if there is anyone going with professional Conselling experience you may want to keep an eye on him.
And Boony no matter how great the temptation, Do Not, repeat Do Not sucumb to lustful thoughts about KTMs….:S
Look at Husqvarnas and Yamahas, KTMs are the Devils bikes.
and Mostly have fun.

Hey TB
Where is that moto these days he has been very quiet around here on the site he is normally in full flight here
cheers
Dr DI’d start by looking in turkish Gaols for Moto, unless he’s still in South America, same outcome different accents.
Wonder if he’ll need a donut pillow to ride on when he gets back?

I used to think as TB does, worried about shear and bearing lubrication in the box, while gearboxes don’t generally get the high temp issues the internal combustion prtion of the drive unit does, they have every other sort of pressure influencing the oil makeup, however I have found that there are two gearbox oils I prefer over the others, both lightweight and thin/low viscosity rating.
Mobil 2T light gear oil
Dextron IIII’m running Shell motorcycle gear oil at the moment, and it’s not a great oil for shifting, took 4/5 rides for the notchiness to subside to tolerable levels, false neutrals everywhere, so It’s back to either the Mobil or DexIII.
Me again
I’ve been assured that the rear wheel bearings in all post 2000 YZ/WRs 2T and 4T are a peculiar size, and cannot be purchased off the shelf, which is a bugger cause I’ve usually just gone to the bearing shop or to the workshop at my jobs and got ’em for next to nothing.
I predict the big fella on a larger bore 2T if he buys again.
the Husky 310 is a great unit too, but the 300 is a weapon of 4T destruction.
Me
Speaking of POMs, we have a mad Irishman, and a mental Scotsman in one crew here both good value Blokes, and our token casual POMMIE will not get into a vehicle with them. Something about workplace safety…his
BCHey Novice i see you have the model with the 43mm KYB forks, how do you find the action and those brakes any problems with power or feedback?
Bruce C.
To be honest after doing both cowls and the tank, I’m not sure I’d invest in factory Effex brand graphics again, the tank graphics are not the best cut & fit and the cowl ones don’t go far enough forward and yet have a bit of trimming to be done at the top to be a good finish.
But the method Mr Rat describes is the bees knees, no bubbles, no problems.
