hey Mr Rat, the radiator cowlings what thread are those screws that go into the tank again? :P

I had a few of my airbox “quikfastners’ (dzuz) come adrift on mine, rat is right the female part is fairly hard to lose, and the male parts where $30 ea from the local KTM dealer (a local version of the Mint, where they make money) the other bikes I have seen them on is my old ’92 XR250 side covers, except from memory they were shorter.

I have had a set of these for a while and they are far superior to the other brands I’ve seen or tried (did I just say that about an Oneal product for real!!) fairly comfortable but the shin part does have trouble fitting in my new boots. Good choice Adrian

So far so good, 1 side of tank done, the sticker is easy to work using Mr Rats methods.

What can i say I get paid by the word

The KTMTALK blokes are way too prententious for even most KTMBlokes.

I agree, this is the most genuine online gathering around, no pretentiousness. Mostly due to the atmosphere created by Mr TB.

Dodgy KTMs eh? doesn’t actually seem right for these bikes, usually fairly well engineered, anyway a heat wrap would be the go, but I’d still be worried that a line to help cool the engine is getting external heat applied, so I’d be trying to source a hose that aviods the header pipe.

probably a bit obvious, but is it the right hose as the ones I’ve ridden with haven’t had this issue that I’m aware of?

Don’t put a centre stand on Beatle, they are dangerous on a dirt bike, coming off jumps especially.

The “Dzuz” fastners on your airbox “are” expensive, but a bolt place or online parts may get some for you, one of the Queensland Boys from DBW (DBW79) sent me 2 a few years back, I might still have them somewhere and I’ll have a look in the next few nights.

Thanks heaps Mr Rat, and that’s how I’m gunna do it now seems like the go, especially for an unco blind in one eye dimwitted individual like myself. These ones are factory Effex tank/cowl and airbox ones, seem really thick (shall call them Menace :P ) too. I had to “help” a tank corner out last night with a heat gun as it had deep scratches where the old graphics had peeled and something had gouged the tank, but all better now.

    Hey Moto how’s the trip?

Thanks so far Lads, I’ve done the google thing to bits including factory effex useful (not much) video, was thinking about my infamous heat gun, but the hairdryer would be a better thing methinks, hopefully Mr Rat will give me the Skinny on the soapy water thing, sounds like it maybe like the “tint method” but I’ll wait, have time anyway, radiators not going to ber fixed until next Monday anyway, the local aluminium radiator magician is on holidays ATM.

yeah I’m being patient, waited 2 days so far to get to this stage, cause this is new territory for me, a bit of caution is well heeded my fine PDS sprung world traveller..;)

I was only saying what he told me i asked him because i had never seen a kender parker tyre before and i used to use kender carlsbad and get a good run out of them .he was a fairly loose rider but (it was also his dads bike)

those WR450s get a kick in the mid-range from what I’ve experienced and that will give a tyre a fairly hard time, they certainly ain’t a bike for riding with finese, and they carry a fair amount of weight too, so it’s probabl if he was riding it like it wasn’t his…

Thanks for the vote of confidence T/B, as we know a well tuned smoker reacts completely different to a good 4T (Did i just say that out loud?? )and the quarter litre WhyZed does seem to kick her heels up and put a bit of distance into the equation (leaves KTM300s and any other comparable bike absolutely wallowing in the wake of acceleration, So I will give an appraisal from my style of riding which will quantify the parameters of use.

went riding with a bloke on a wr450 on the weekend he had a kenda parker tyre on it had done less than 10hrs and it was shagged that bike was all over the place its linkage rear suspension was bouncing everywhere prably should have lent him a screwdriver

He must be a bit harsh on the throttle cause a mate of mine with an older YZ250 who is a real “throttle jockey” all speed no style rider, gets about 20 hours out of those things, carlsbad is his pick so far, cause it looks so aggressive… as it runs over his own back, but he does get a good run out of them, and he only knows two throttle positions, slide jammed against the spring, and none.

Ok Ollie you’re on, when I’m ready to replace the rear tyre, I’ll try a retread on a medium/softish sidewall carcass maybe a Dunlop 736 type carcass, I go by feel on tyre pressure often adjusting it during the ride to acomodate the mood I’m in.

I’ll yell at you when I’m ready, sometime in next few rides so the Missus can swallow my next “need to replace this now Darlin” story without looking foottappy and stuff at me.

I am suss on Retreads on bikes, because the sidewall influence is so much more important than on a car or truck, I would never use one on a roadbike (do they even make them?) cause in the back of my mind at 240ish would be….what if that tyre flies apart now?

having said that I have not had a great run of tyres on the rear of the YZ and i think as one of my 4T riding mates said “It spins up so damn quick off idle it shreds tyres” but if you put a hard crappy “budget” tyre on the spin becomes unpredictable and almost unrideable. Luckily I have a brand spankers S-12 & M-12 fronts hanging in my shed, but the rears I cannot keep up to the little bitch, it’s demolished a 952 in 5 rides, and that’s a crap “value” tyre for longevity.

If one keeps going one is going to run bloody Kenda Parker DTs or even worse Millvilles, just to get a bit of life out of them.
