The Mekon is a little green bald guy from Venus who featured in the comic strip “Dan Dare” of my youth. He is an evil little character and floats around on a little boat shaped chair. Well I was way of the mark with my smoking weed remark then…[/quote]

Don’t be too sure on that Micknmeld, i reckon you could be onto something there cause given Mekons age & that last statement about little green blokes floating around on “boat” chairs, I reckon Mekon has had his fair share of John Lennon inspirational moments.

I love gossip on a slow friday Arvo, no bomb threats to deal with, no public incidents, everyone else off on an RDO but a skeleton staff (hey how’d I get involved in that skinny caper, I’m sorta “husky” ) so MotoSteveSquirrelKrishnaLonearranger better give up the goods here, cause I’m bored.

As a fellow pro-senior mechanic/father,(detuned ’05 (just sold for something more suitable for rec riding) & a bombed to the eyeballs ’06 racebike) i highly recommend the low speed stator windings if all normal checks fail, the heat the clutch pack generates is phenominal and transfers through to all other nearby components, I run 200cc of Dex III + two2cool additive to combat, still have had it happen though. So sold the “soft” bike last month and he got a KX60 for riding with Dad & big Sis’. MA is a heaps more reliable ride, pity they have no suspension or brakes, or clearance.

Have fun with the pro “‘money-pit” senior, I will not be missing ours when he moves onto 65s

probably would be the same here too Moto, except i seem to remember they can ask for a jury trial.
Is interesting that the UK is so much swifter in dispensing justice though.

still doesn’t bring back the bike I s’pose, mongrel thieving scum……

Gees Moto, I’m not sure how it works in the old blighty, but here the courts will have to set a pre-trial hearng, a triaildate, a blah blah hearing if he’s actually found guilty convicted, all this takes TIME lotsa TIMe, nothing happens fast, except the thief taking your bike, that happens really fast.
    Although maybe it would be better if it did happen quickly ie;

    you steal bike?
👿 no your worship wasn’t me I swear!
 you guilty, bring firing squad in!
    👿 but but but
 No but, but, you guilty…ready aim Fire!
 Right now bring on next case of theft of dirtbike…. causefiring squad already assembed and ready.

Mmm maybe not a good idea after all.

    1-He likes green= armed forces
2-Mekon=Mekon delta, a reference to the Viet conflict, where I could be wrong..but our PT boats were heavily involved.
    3-Floats by= on a boat.

    1+2+3=6
    6 must therefore = navy
or it’s completely wrong and I’m still a clown

Well i do spend time in a rodeo, and every good rodeo needs a clown.

hello Mekon, not all aussies on TT were PMed, I missed out although I heard through Moto (from memory) on another fora.

I reckon you’re Navy bloke and due home in a few weeks.
Or kermit the frog taking a holiday, we all know he rode a CB750/4.
Rode a bit of road as well in my time Mmm maybe 26 years, gave up year before last as my self-preservation mode kicked in and returned to the dirt exclusively, where spatial awareness issues are less likely to cause my demise.

Better clarify what i stated earlier,
with a capacitor they will start with a kick starter, obviously would need to be a huge capacitor to enable a starter motor, this is how i understand the MXers operate capacitor & kick and they need to be started in a hurry when they go down, look at a video of Bubba when it happens, one kick and he’s gooooone. Now as an aside isn’t it funny (not in a haha haha sorta way either) how they get all the technology first, Ala KTM all the new stuff goes on the SXs before EXCs, although Gas gas has had it for quite a while now on the 450.

I didn’t think the RMZ450 or CRF450 have batteries as such, so I would say quite confidentally, doesn’t matter if the battery is flat, they will still start, especially since the hordes of clever little engineers have already performed the “whatif’ sessions.
Some bikes have capacitor storage of limited volume but whether this is part of EFI or not i don’t know.

It is inevitable, and when they DI an enduro smoker with oil fed bottom end…..watch them shift off the floors quicker than hotcakes at a Jenny Craig convention (which is not much of a statement cause you have to pretty well pre-order now to get one, especially the 300s of any marque)
As far as 4Ts FI, when they “snap” off the throttle and have slipper clutches and bring the weight down and make them handle like a smoker I’ll buy one, but the reality is the electric one will get there first anyway.
And Moto don’t be wrecking the fuel tank on an FI system, will not be a easy going as on your KTM (kick till morning, kost too much, keep throwing money, kill the mechanic.. etc etc choose any of these for further descriptors)

That surely is “King Kirk”, exceptionally talented old bloke (36-37ish from memory) the king of the Qld enduro scene, probably coulda gone further if he hadn’t been so laidback about it all, has been exclusively riding a modded YZ250 (285cc etc etc) 2T until next season.

Yamaha is asking him to go 4T I believe.

Quite often people just gear down without a thought to what gear or predominant speed they need, a WR450f has a substainally lower first gear than my YZ250 (14/51 for snotty walking pace rainforest kangaroo track, 15/51 for more traditional singletrack trailrides)so from a distance of not owning one but having ridden a few, running a 14/52 on a 450 must almost make low gear redundant in most situations, instant tyre melt or flip if throttle not applied with caution?. If it is a problem that first is too low and second too high, think outside of the (gear)box, instead gear it up & make low your new bestest buddy, it will space the gears out in your bike, enabling you to be smoother and concentrate on body movementrather than gear selection, gearing a bike down also means you’ll be foot tapping more, as the gears become closer together, and for me that is a big reason to own a lazy big-bore and let’s face it a WR450 does a beaut spread of power, this gives you lazy long legs in top for those transport sections and a usuable low gear for goat tracks.

just a different approach to it that may apply, rather than a blanket response.

May i be presumptuous to add Moto, if you take a tumble and break the ball end off your lever replace it ASAP, I have now got at least back to a a dull numb sensation in my knuckleless third finger on the right hand after skewering my palm with my partially broken front brake lever 20 years ago.

I run aftermarket shorty levers on all our bikes as well, lessens the chance of Snags and allows better grip while clutching or braking, for the little person riders I always replace “big” levers with some more suited to little hands, High end BMX components are good for this, they have little reach adjustable levers on the better race bikes.

i truly feel for you on this…..I had my XT200 stolen when i was 16 yrs and 10 months old….yep it was my only form of transport, even traded my beloved previous years race prepped RM for deposit… 1 month old & I bought it on H/P while on slave wages (junior rates $67.35 a week)walked out of work at 5.35pm to see the powerpole i had chained it to was empty….still burns me up 26 years later, cause the insurance company wiggled out of it and i ended up paying for a bike for 3 years that I had for three weeks.

Call me cynical but our bikes are never left out unless fixed inside the rear of the rodeo with kryptonite wire rope, and only left in plain sight while i pay for the fuel. Otherwise they are chained to the floor shackle and through a wall stud, all power & manual cutting tools are locked in a steel cabinet, (large boltcutters are locked in another shed 20 metres away) all of this is inside a double lined timber shed, with only one access door, double deadbolted, inside another larger Shed/enclosed carports, behind a locked 5′ steel gate, 30 mteres down my driveway with another set of steel gates at the very front, 6′ fences on all sides bar the front (4′ cyclone) down cul de sac, with lots of stay at home Mums and retirees, all sides neighbours have large roaming dogs, and i have my loyal four legged, tail wagging “security guards” (the Alpha and my old mate, the smartest fella died 8 weeks ago, but he taught the others all of his 15 years worth of tricks).

    Paranoid?…maybe
Gunna have our bikes stolen from the house?…not bloody likely they’ll go around the corner and scope out someones elses place first.

I feel for any poor bugger who works hard to allow themselves a little pleasure, for some good for naught lazy scum to see it and just assume they are entitled to just take it.

    Rant over

Not really at liberty toB) , except to say they are
    *Deadly serious about their riding
*All top notch blokes with very high skills levels and the groups’ speed is blistering with little respite for 5-6 hours at a time, many may find this a little “unnerving”
    *Did i mention good blokes?
*Singletrack has a whole new meaning when they cut it out of the scrub (BTW scrub up here means dense rainforest)probably would be better off on trials bikes.
    *Based around SE Qld/NE NSW
*Highly organised & dedicated small band of diverse characters, with no democracy, essentially an autocratic leader and the rest are happy to follow, ride I believe is by invite only.
*Did i mention a top bunch of Banana benders?

Apart from that i know nothing, nothing I tells ya.

I generally ride 100 ks south of them, and any are welcome if thery’re up this way and I’ll show you “Napalm Springs Death Resort” the undiscovered tracks, which is my speciality.
