There was recent a mint ’04 Yz250wr on ebay on the gold coast. had really low hours, but I think it went for a bit of a song too, around $4K from memory.
YZ250wr from 01-05 are fully complianced registerable in any state.
This place is moderated??????
I thought we were all sensible mature adults
I’ll keep an eye out for you STM, eventually you’ll catch me out…
I’d also ask for a 300% payrise as well.

Mmm Blue Smarties….Mmmmmm
Yep the 1998 six days special designation YZ250Wr was the last of the TRUE 2T WRs that yamaha made, it was based upon a mix of the 1998 YZ250 and the previous year models WR250. A true Wide ratio gearbox and compliant rear suspension made it more enduro oriented.
I have an article here in my archives about them as I damn near boought one in Mint condition a few years back from up new england way, which leads me to think one of the dealers up there sold many of them( of not so many made, again I think it was Bert Flood that got them ADR’d) or had a hand in building the custom bikes. They seem to command good $$$ even now.
A good bike but front end was a bit slow on the steer from memory of the YZs of that time, not a carver like an RM or CR, but very stable at speed.
Those engines typical of the MX 2Ts of the late ninties put out close to 50hp, so in the power stakes definitely no slouch.
Is this cells Boony speaks of a tight mongrel technical S/T?
if it is perfect hunting ground for a 2T.Yeah I know, what got me was myself a young Aussie from WA and richard cannon (TTs YZ250 guru) were talking about the Bombadier (old name eh TB? they own half the snomoile and outboard concerns now including Evinrude) 600 snomobile with DI & Trapping valve that currently SPANKS anything else on the powder for everything, power, torque, torque curve, acceleration, emissions and how we can’t wait for someone to introduce some of this onto dirtbikes and how it would be feasible to the old Can-Am to be ressurrected and cool stuff like that.
And Whammo in walk the naysaying wankas who know everything about everything….
end of discussions progress.
Thanks you Blokes thought it was just me going mental…. again
What got my goat was a supposedly top-notch yankee tuner telling me in a technology discussion over at TT, that DI would NOT make any difference to a 2T and besides no technology exists to make it work and we HAD to have a powerpipe for a 2T to make decent power…
So then half the participants took this as gospel and shut their minds off, only myself and a couple of other Aussies and a few yanks continued, down the DI discussion path, all the while the Gospel singers are telling us we are wrong
HELLO DIKHEADS, Evinrude outboards, SnoMobiles, Umm Orbitals Design of EARLY 90s, and the hundreds of other examples already in production..
I bloodywell hate idiots who think they have an IQ when they influence things like this, and it seems everytime I try to glean info from across the internet some wanka pops up who thinks because he got a pass mark in 6th grade or he was the smartest in his family (where Mum & Dad are cousins) he is instantly the GUru of everything and detracts from the progress we are making and you just shake you virtual head and walk away.
And it’s not just limited to Yanks, we have enough here to keep us down as well.
Look over at DBW the last few months for clarification, not all, but it is becoming overrun by “instant-experts” who saw a dirtbike once and are on their 2nd at 35 yr old, telling us of “Great New things” like reverse cylinders are so so new-age…..
DOH
Not the first choice for me, but he did ask of only 2 bikes, of the 2 I’d give the call to the 300.
The PDS actually works OK once dailed in ST, and the 300 is a “gentlemans” 2T, pity I’m not a gentleman…………
Top engine, very versatile, easy going possibly the best all round tight trails motor ever put together, yet in outright power he will be up on the 400, in weight down.
Yep, Michael, even back in “our” day it was the ISDT, I believe it actually elvolved from the Scottish six day trials, much like the MX of nations used to be french “motocrosse des nations”
Now what’s Reedy riding?
A greeves
A Jawa
A CZor somsthing boring like a honda?
Other modern MX facts
The Goat resisted going to a 4T 450 for several seasons after all the mid-feilders and wannabes had
As did Reedy
James Stewart disn’t until 2006, and even then had to be “strong armed”Motocross or scrambles as my grandfather called it was stood on it’s ear in the early 60s, as it became formally recognised and the predominant countries of the time (the big 4 were still pooping on their xylophones then) decided to make some dedicated bikes.
CZ (from czechoslavakia) Greeves from britain, andn followed quickly by husky (see always been around) made some lightweight 250cc class bikes that dominated the class, by 1964 the Big 350 Single 2T CZ had gained a fancy new addition called and “expansion chamber” and that was that…no comparison
CZ 2T dominated off-road competition for basically a decade in the top classes, Greeves and husqvarna and a few others got good results too, but if you owned a 4T you were relegated to s pecial group of “nutters” who needed special care and understanding………I wonder if anyone here know what event the ISDE evolved from?
Beecee
Whereas I heard Husky, under the BMW banner.
I’m pretty sure it’s euro this time, and maybe Decoster is the catalyst.
I think it will revealed at the newcastle SX.
Just finished discussing this elsewhere, if i ever own a 4T bike again (which I will in a big roadie) one of my first mods is a decent oil cooler, a very underrated mod afaiak, this is a definite way forward and can help offset engine longevity as a bonus.
Just think about it rationally, oil is not as effective as H2O based stuff at heat exchange, however it does do a good enough job to hold some 300 hp turbo Gsxr11s together.
A big virtual G’day to you Craig05, welcome and don’t be shy to jump right in, lotsa very experience people on here with lots to share.
Bruce Cee
Your average sharing caring sorta lunaticI must have missed the safari thread, was really busy all last week and on the weekend, so my apologies, actually I reckon it’s a bloody good thing to see, 9th on a ten year old bike (I’m sure it woulda been prepped well though) but what’s more outstanding is it is essentially a 20 yr old design, that still cuts it, and cuts it well.
Touch wood eh Michael?
I hate circlips on vital bits like that, but if it’s there I second TBs Silicone advice (you probably already knew that anyway).
Betchya special Dad adrenaline gland went into overdrive as it threw him too…..
BTW Mick Brenton said to say a big thank you for the boots, he used them again yesterday and reckons they are better than his old OXtars.
Stuff hadley he’s just another populist moronic shock jock with an IQ smaller than his shoe size, Robs da Man as far as I am concerned…
Let’s see hadley or Jones do any better, pair of bigmouths, worst thing is some people actually believe them…imagine having a brain that small??
BTW I’m not a fan of reactionary contribute nothing “safe behind the microphone” populist shockmocks….
