Branded race fuels and I am assuming tis one being such a fuel would have more than just an octane rating to give it an edge, this is what I was getting at, 98 from the servo al things being equal will not hold a match to a properly formulated race fuel.

there are fuels and then there are Fuels, some race fuels even have a high oxygen content, which is half the secret to Nitro-methane, as it combusts it gives off oxygen.

Try something like this with your timing at standard (whatever yu have now) then advance it a little (and just a little), and it should all things being equal give you quite a different feeling response.
And now knowing some of what is inside TBs red dragon I would say his will like it more than a little, just giving his cam overlap and higher comp chamber.

Not that I’m defending this particular fuel without knowing its full breakdown, but usually there is a lot more to a fuel than just octane rating, I can get fuels that burn better and produce more power with a relatively low RON yet others rated at 98 RON that produce nothing much more than excessive heat, I’d prefer to have a high MON than RON, because you can use relatively any crappy old additive to increase your RON and gain nothing in the way of horseower in the end.
All a higher octane rating usually does is allow you to run higher compression and/or advanced ign timing, if you don’t take advantage of these allowances it is wasted or even worse.

That gem doesn’t help with my front end issue though.

Sorry Mick, inexcusable of me front is usually a tad over 1/4 of total travel

here’s a good quik read I borrowed from an expert

    RACE SAG

Make sure your forks are at the standard height in the triple clamps before starting any adjustments. 3mm down from the fork cap to the top of the triple clamp. Most run it 5mm for better steering.
Increasing the preload on your rear spring will decrease the Race sag. Most run 100mm of race sag on the rear. I run 85mm~90mm this is about 3.75″. This will raise the rear of your bike putting more weight on the front wheel and reduce the front-end rake and be more like an MX bike. This will always make the bike turn sharper. If you tighten the spring too far it will make the bike unstable and make the bike prone to headshake.

Less preload on the rear spring will increase the Race sag at the forks. This will cause the front end to float and be light with hard acceleration. The back end will squat, putting less weight on the front wheel and causing it to ride like a “chopper”. This will reduce head shake, making the bike go straighter and be more secure at high speed. The bad side of not enough shock pre-load is the bike will become hard to turn.
To fine tune the spring preload (Race Sag), start out with 4″. The bike will pull the front end up sooner. Much easier to pull a wheelie. Try tightening the rear spring adjusting nut 1/2″ turn down and mentally note how much easier the front end will dive into a turn and hold the inside line. Continue this spring tightening until the bike becomes twitchy and unstable, or it feels like you’re always pulling up on the handlebars to get the front up in the whoops. Measure and record your Race Sag.
Then try loosening the rear preload 1/2 inch turn at a time and mentally note how the rear end “Squats” down and traction increases as you exit each turn. When you reach the point of excessive front-end lift (wheelies) and loss of steering, or you begin to have trouble holding a tight turn, the spring is too loose and you have too much Race Sag. Measure and compare these two extremes, then reach a compromise between them that balances “stability” and “tight turning”.

Tune the front-end ride height to match the rear end!

If the Race Sag compromise you determined above is close to the typical (4″~3.75″) measurements listed above, your fork height adjustment in the triple clamps is probably about right.

Raising the forks in the triple clamps will lower the front end making the bike turn sharper but will reduce high-speed stability. (Similar to increasing the rear preload.)

Lowering the forks in the triple clamps will raise the front end making the bike harder to turn, but will increase high-speed stability. (Similar to lowering the rear preload.)

Personally if I was after a bananna type bike I’d buy a KLX450 secondhand, top bikes nice easy power with top reliability and all the goodies an enduro bike comes with.
But hey that’s probably not true, cause I’d go and buy the lightest snappiest thing I could find and then beat myself up with it….

And sometimes you’ve just gotta vent to your mates and get it off yer chest, or it will colour your experience.

I agree the good does outweigh the bad, but there are certain rides I will not go on if I know a certain couple of people are going to be on them (and no they are not members here) cause they sh1t me to tears with their “Pro-rider” attitudes.

BTW Boony you didn’t answer your own Q?

You know Mick, in my minds eye I can actually see her doing that, determined look on her face and all………

Don’t rush him you old Devil, they find their own way, I have tried the “heavy coaching” using rewards system, apparently he listened to it all, but decided to actually use it when HE WAS DAMN WELL READY, and not before.
And it’s a great feeling being a Dad

Being too serious about covering miles, I’m here to have fun, not clock up kilometres, I’d rather ride for 3 hours of a challenging fun ride, stopping every so often to go back and do it again or have a Ciggy and a debrief, than to go non-stop until it all melds into one singular experience.

And wankers, I dislike riding with wankers, who get off on besting others by trying too hard

STM mate, it’s enough to keep you going through the week, used to get a buzz watching him dominate his age classes at clubdays at BMX, but BMX isn’t my thing as well so I was happy for him and his Sister enjoying doind that every saturday for a few years (until club politics actually drove the kids off it, stupid adults, another story in itself, about him getting handicapped, then shoved up age classes against the rules of the sport because of his ability to ride )

TB Yep in a way they are no different to us have good days and not as good, except they don’t analyze as much just do, he watches all off-road racing he can, he rides the quad almost everday, changes his own oil, lubes the chain and cables and helps me perform much of the work on his bike. He has two hobbies (bikes and model trains) and he lives and breathes both of them, bit like his old man, obsessive and a sponge for experience.
Yesterday was special for me, cause I know exactly how he was feeling and as he’s riding, I’m thinking to myself ok down two, brake slide, up the tank, feather the clutch drive it out, back on the seat and hold it flat through the gears ….. and almost as I was thinking it he was doing it.

Worth every 2-3 yr old tantrum, the school marks falling cause he hates school (rather be riding or playing trains), the fights with his sister, his whole attitutde to riding is exactly the same as I was at his age, I go to school so I can ride, I do these chores to ride, I read this magazine cause it’s about riding, I play this playstation game because it’s about riding, I clean my gear to go riding. I pester my Dad so we can go riding, and I remind him of why we do….
