TB it appears yet again we are arguing the same point from different angles, although I’m a bit worried about the weight thing, I’m 13 kilos lighter than I was 3 yrs ago and still they break on me….

Quote:Dodgy seals and immersion in muddy water are the main contributors to bearing failure IMOYep, I was just reading up on microblue bearing treatment last night as surface quality is a huge issue in heat and energy transfer.
Bearings ain’t just rolly round things, there’s almost a whole science to them by themselves.
This is something that is a idea transferable to drive chains as well, as put simply the pins and rollers are nought but plain bearings.

I also never used to smash hubs and break spokes :dry:TB
So why do bearing in roadbikes go for 40k?
whereas in dirtbikes 4K?
same bearing in many cases…..
of course kilometres play a part, but not as big a part as constant undulating terrain and absorbing the impact through tyre and suspension settings, otherwise dirtbikes would get the same as Roadies.
and TB we smash hubs because of weight, and laziness (too lazy to get out of the way or excercise), I never used to do rim or spoke damage when I was 12 stone either…. 151/2 stone seems to apparently
Sorry I don’t get Honda NX’s, why wouldn’t you get an XR650L instead and deck it out for longer distance touring?
Aha, I think Michael has hit on it, I have had bikes that have done 25k a year on dirt roads, secondary tar roads, through flood waters (I rode to work in the bush for 15 yrs every weekday, 60k each way to the next town) and still what you blokes are experiencing is foriegn to I, even on my old RMs and CRs that I rode every afternoon and half the weekends on didn’t suffer like you blokes speak of.
I also reckon Dick has a point (pointy Dick!!!) on installation, I have always used a deadblow softface hammer and copper drifts on the outer edges on mine, or a simple press. Bearing quality may play a big part too, I used to use only SKF as they made the common Yamaha and Suzuki sized bearings, but lately have been using whatever I can get, as it appears that the sizings are getting out of hand.
I also believe tyre pressure and suspension setup plays a part, cause if you’re pounding the guts out of those bearings obviously they’re not going to last.
Again TB I don’t think it’s how often you ride, (although up until about 4 yrs ago I rode everyday for at least 100k and sometimes 400ks work and back) because as stated I compare mine to a mileage/hours of use (topends are rule of thumb 100hrs in my 2Ts)it’s like chains/sprocket some people get SFA out of them, others get 5-7k without drama.
I reckon it’s the little things you do that make big differences in reliability.
and qulaity of components, otherwise why would jappas be so much better than chingas?OWL01 wrote:
Quote:I agree that all pollies start out wanting to do good but they get caught up in the corrupt system of whats in it for me and lerks and perks.
bottom line is that in a business if you let stuff ups like rudd has done happen you would be sacked and your company goes broke.
Governments arent accountable they run out of money – simple they just raise or invent new taxes or borrow money.Imagine if your business was struggling and you could force your customers to just pay more or force them to have a support agreement – not possible in reality but for the government thats exactly what they do. They dont have to operate efficiently they just have an endless supply of money and I for one am sick and tired of being screwed – just look at how much we have to pay to register and insure our chookies!!!
Government policy – dont fix it just make it user pays.
And just remember WOMEN are the biggest FUN POLICE and fun police dont like motorbikes because they are dangerous!!!
Agreed to a degree OWL, however a governement isn’t and should never be treated as a business, or it will become user pays for everything. A governements duty is to guide the country, it’s people and society in general in the manner that which the constitution frames it, and doing the greater good for all.
again I reiterate, a governement should build on things, or set up new necessary infrastructure and set the boundaries for us, not destroy and cut down what’s already built without recourse or replacement.
Business is a completely different animal, it has one purpose only to make a profit for the shareholder(s) wether that be a corner store or a multi-national player. Government is for the people, by the people, and if my tax dollars go to the needy and less fortunate, I will willingly pay them, however if it goes to a CEO of a business that is getting too many breaks already I will jack up and vote for the ones that will stop this.
and this goes for the mining tax, wish people would check into things before they deride them, real life royalties have dropped from 33% to less than 13% for us the owners of the resource, and the baby-boomer generation is on the cusp of wholesale retirements with not enough super, so who’s gunna pay for them?
Remember they paid for our education and childhoods, and for their own parents pensions, isn’t it fair someone supports them, just how is now the dillemma whoeever gets in next times ahs to face… how
Too right Jeffro, i usually find the loudest objectors are people that are mediocre’ at what they do, or plain lazy in the first place. Must give them the insight to believe everyone else is the same.
Kev tried, what more can we ask
Peter Costello tried, again what more can we ask
PJK tried, didn’t sell it well, but did some great things, we deride and hounded him for it, even Costello praised him for setting up our system to be where it is today.I worry about the destroyers, the demolition men, I prefer builder and doers myself.
Personally I have a bit of respect for most who get into politics, I believe most of them start out trying to do the right thing, Nats/Libs/labor/Greens, all believe they have a contribution to make, beats sitting on yer ass criticising anyone having a go.
Only ever had one wheel bearing failure, and it was on a roadie after a head-on and a rebuild, without changing bearing so sorta reckoned it had a reason, my slackness.
My maintenance program has the wheel bearings regreased every few months, checked prior to every ride, and changed every couple of years if there is no other signs of wear.
They have a finite lifespan yes, but you can control the unexpected easily.
I’d be more likely to carry a spareset of brake pads myself, and I already carry a 13 kilo backpack……..
Not saying you’re wrong Smithy, but it’s like clutch issues for me, never have them, cause i regularly maintain them.
I used to know a few in political circles, and I can tell you no way in hades would i ever wanna be a pollie, it’s a crap life, everyone baying for your blood, pressure all the time, and many of them (the good ones) work their butts off.
and what do we do as Australian public?
Deride them and boo them, yep be a top life that
Krusty who’s Ms Julias puppet master?
Cause to be Honest the problem with Tin Tin was he Didn’t listen to his peers or the take advice from the experienced people availiable to him.
Aldi may have to honour their warrantee statement now, it’ll send ’em broke…….
seriously not a bad looker for an annoying orange.
The QR WASN’T as good as the Peewee or the JR, as the frames were much weaker around the headstock, many after the first yr had a great deal more steering rake, and resulting ground clearance issues.
However still a great kids bike my Lil Sis had one when she was 4. I think her kids have it now.
Hello Ms Julia…… Woohoo
I like the Lass, she has fire in her belly.
Personal politics aside, great moment for Australia to show we are not a bunch of mysoginist rednecks with ulta conservative leanings.
