Im confused
Do i wait two weeks or do i buy a kato ?
It’s up to you Aido, if you have the coin to update later buy the Kato now, and upgrade to the WR IF they become the end all and be all
King STM wrote:There is a lot of talk about a 250 two stroke Enduro bike.STM
Last year Yamaha Aust proposed renewing the ADR’d YZ250wr, and Yamaha Japan shut it down on a marketing excuse, believeing it would pull sales from the WR450, which as most of us know is a bit of saveloy, as 2T buyers are just that, and there may be a few that jumped within the blue camp, but more would jump from the Euro village.
Fat Girls and hamburgers eh TB?
is this the new “pick up” tactic?..
Yeah I hear you TB…..I hate those blokes, i knew one at a KTM dealer… still waiting for the 2010 inj linkaged EXC
any old open class Motocrosser will do, an alpha II, KX45o-500, rm500 KTM550 turn it into an outfit, go to the nearest mental outpatients clinic, choose the most ADHD afflicted looking bloke there, buy him a helmet, and there you have it… world class sidecar team.
Been the domain of the truly insane for decades, and then they flattrack them with up to 1300cc multis……:pinch:
That’s a photoshop job that has been doing the rounds and has been debunked as a fake, no FI is the inside goss
Bundyroy wrote:Following my mechanical investigations I now have a few questions on how things work.1) What do the reeds do? My assumption is they let fuel through when there is a vacuum created in the cylinder and prevent backflow when there is a positive pressure in the cylinder.
2) The science of the powervalve. I gather when the powervalve is open it lets the exhaust back into the cylinder better to give you that little bit better air volume for a more powerful compression. What causes the powervalve to come open. Is it just a revs thing overcoming some sort of centrifugal force? What do the two little openings that come open either side of the main exhaust do to help. I know they are closed when the powervalve opening is minimised and open when it opens but how much difference do they make and how?
Thanks
First up, congrats Roy ona job well done.
Secondly, not far off in the reeds stakes, they were one of the huge improvements for 2T when boyeson developed them, they are a viable alternative to disc-valves and the 2Ts never looked back once they became commonplace.
Ok P/Valve is generally on dirtbikes centrifugal forces higher revs=opens more, the side-valves are auxillary and do make a big difference at topend rev flow, they are a little step forward too, the trick is to not have the valves open too quickly and to match the valve opening time to the inherent power-curve the engine is designed for.
The best and I mean the best have always been servo-motor controlled by an ECU, but on a dirtbike this could and has led to failures when there is moisture ingress.
so go out, ride enjoy and do it again in around 80-110 hours timeif you can’t ount a small-bore you can’t ride..
really it is quite that simple, want to improve your bike skills and have fun?
who cares who has the best top-speed, leave that to the zx14 crowd, fun is why we do this, go for the most fun.
and doesn’t really matter what brand in the end, they all make good uns and bad’uns.
I have heard really good things about the 300-350cc 4T class bikes…..
spend some time on a small bore, learn, smile and move to something else again if you feel the need.
in the tight stuff it doesn’t matter wether you’ve got 45 or 50 hp, you spend most of your time at the 15-25 hp area anyway, the more flexible you become as a rider the more relaxed you get

True Bruce, Ollie is tighter than a nuns nasty but you said it not me
TB
Hey Hey Hey not nice BC and Tumbles  I was only on Gumtree using the taxpayers money to its best advantage all in the name of research
ok ok it was a slow day and we cant get Ebay on the work computer
But tight I am most definatley not,ive given away more stuff in the last few weeks like you wouldnt believejust ask Adam and Sam.
Ollie
Hey Ollie..
I’ll never slander a wee mon fer fixin’ a bargain… hoots mon most of my blood is from the celt homelands, and me myself am quite fond of a dollar driven far…..
and remember only a fool and his money are easily parted…..
Bruce
serial-fool apparently by my own descriptorReeds are consumables, they flutter and move mere thousandths of an inch at incredible frequencies, carbon fibre ones i believe are better but not infallible.
I used to replace the petals at rebore time, now I’d say at replate time.Price?, last time i checked around the same money ex-usa, saying that i bought mine out of italy a few years ago, and the first set had too much clearance and my idle and throttle response was crud, so i had them exchanged.
Boyeson Rad-valve is funnily enough a more direct approach in design and works much better, a larger petal retains it’s memory and is less upset but the funny pulses that (especially a crankcase Induction) 2Ts can have, they are just betterer all round.Peter Wulfybloke, I had to rejet as the stronger signal with the V-force was stuffing my A/F ratio up, I actually went down 4 sizes on Pilot jet, and went to the JD Blue for summer, and looking at my piston wash I could go down some more… remember the stronger an engines (to a point) Vacuum signal is, the smaller the orifice needs to be to deliver the necessary volume of fuel.
BUTTTT read above, my first set was dodgy, and I’m not the only one who has noticed it.
and changing the petals on the V#s is a royal pain in the rear.Trailboss wrote:Mr Blue wrote:This is why we have to pay taxes, who would look after these poor bustardos if we don’t.. certainly not themselves.just be thankful that’s not our kids or grandkids…….
would say nice find TB, but it is really quite sad that we have our own class of “PWT” in modern orshaya…… education costs nothing in this country, attendance and learning from it however are optional.
Why have I been dragged into this?
TB
Sorry Greg, shoulda realised it woulda been Ollie looking for the bargains on Gumtree…
Bad bad bruce
badbadbadwell I do like to sully your name whereever i can you know….
don’t bother pulling the P/Valve assembly apart this time as i would say you will be recoating next time, just get a can of WD and spray in the p/v area and leave then blow out with copious amounts of air until you are satisfied it has got rid of all loose type crud.
now go round the barrel with some scrotchbrite by hand and kero.. lightly
Ok next you need to tells us what jetting you are running, what oil and ratio and where you spend most of the time in throttle position, cause that piston and cylinder wall is telling me a story……
Going against the grain here
force Vs are good reeds, but suffer some QA and flow issues at WOT and have been known to fracture the petals easily (I have them so no bias) are really great for low end throttle response and metering signal strength.
HOWEVER the Boyeson Rad Valve is this plus more, much better design and from the people who invented the reed valve for 2T engines.
If i had to buy again…….
Hey Roy, the pistonwash (clean area) on the crown is very small, but I digress that is not what we are here for.
First thing to check I’d ask you to make is those suspicious looking marks at 5 and 7 o’clock in the bore (intake side less of a worry.. but never can be too careful) can you feel them with the fingernail test and eyes closed?
This is why we have to pay taxes, who would look after these poor bustardos if we don’t.. certainly not themselves.
just be thankful that’s not our kids or grandkids…….

Bob wrote:What gain is there for any politician to back a Minority????????????
Local or notMinority where you are, majority here and many parts of SE Qld, and the local pollies do like to be returned.
we got (read this and weep greens) over 50,000 objections to that disastrous dirtbike plan up here, and 20 in favour….. methinks that is not a minority appearance.
see the locals can adjust laws at a LGA level and that is that simple for many areas, the others can be adjusted at a state level, and each local politician that is currently in power is a member of a larger coalition of two parties, one being the national party… -
