Nah Dan the 250 was a much better bike overall IMHO.

the 490 was an overweight temperamental (or just mental) pig.

Cause MR Squirrel, while we can ignore the politicians, sure as squirrel poop they won’t ignore us, someones gotta keep a look out for us.
Call us sentinels, the wary, you can be assured if it would get votes close to an election there’d be a “DirtBikers Overboard” incident.

Close Mr Rat, the systems are modelled off each other, which is why even though i am a republican, their form is not the sort we would want, keep the monarchy if it is.

The USA has become a nightmare of legislation, it is inherent with their form of “democracy” that any idiot in the senate with a bit of clout can enact any piece of stupidity ythey can push through, the system of smoke and mirrors politics means the legislation whence enabled may little resemble the original intention.

We are vastly different, thank god for two seperate houses to keep tabs on each other.
In this respect the Westminster system kicks arse…

The french are equally as stupid as the USA, guess why?

Moto in your mind you know the 300 is revving lower than the 450 at redline, but because it firs every stroke it sounds higher, I have regular laughds at modern 4T riders (the ones who have only known the screamers) who tell me mine revs too high, compared to their YZF250 etc, I seem to remember my upper power redline at 8750rpm is around 4000 rpm lower than theirs.

You won’t seize it unless your stingy on the pre-mix or running real hot and lean.

KTMs 2Ts are good that way.

more trouble with the OHC versions, just check out all the sites for confirmation.

Also depends on an individuals history too Moto, when I was 14/15 I wore out 2 brand spankers IT175s in just over twelve months, completely shagged them, cause the routine was

up at 5 round cattle up to milk..

ride to bus stop to go to school

ride home after school, get changed, brothers and i head up the bush for an hour or so, back home check cattle, weekends if not racing or working on farm we could easily go through a 44 of super in two weeks between the three of us.

Not that you could do it now, but on wednesdays (sports day) I used to ride my It175 to a garage at the edge of town (40 kays) leave with old man taylor go to school, finish sport early and then ride home again, then go riding after school…. B)

I hate to think how many hours we spent riding but conservatively 20 hours a week, from age 9 to 15, and then my obsession with real speed happened…….

The best suspension bloke i’ve dealt with for PDS and WP is Terry Haye at shock treatment, every KTM I have ridden that he has worked on is 100% improvement over stock.

The watching someone ride I am in two minds about, it could be just a “customer reassurance” thing, but then again I’ve got two mates on identical bikes same weights (give or take 5 kg) both very quick on the trails, completely different styles and suspesnion setups, both get the job done, but go different ways about it…….

And trail suspension setup is way way different to MX, and in my experience extremely hard to find a decent compromise for both.

I hope they are checking the egos at the start line or there’s gunna be some serious accidents at this event.

BTW I’ve done over a million kays in 30 years on bikes, but that was roadbikes as well, every day for 20 years 200 kays round trips to work and back, then weekends sometimes 800 -1000 kay days, regularly did batemans bay and back, starting fri lunch and back Sun night, every weekend with the Missus on either my bike or both bikes. And we weren’t as serious as some of my old mates who did really big kays to the rallies and race meets so-forth around the country.

Just because it’s not in your sphere of experience doesn’t make it untrue, I’ve personally never been into space, but there are those whom have….

I think a breather may be needed here for some.

The amount of different companies that are investing in 2T R&D atm is phenominal, surely something has to get past the beancounters and be on the showroom floor before I’m too old to ride one…. :(

I like 4Ts too, real ones like XR500-650s, DR Bigs, CT90s Z50s, and most big roadbikes of all configurations, however i do wonder about the viability of “screamers” in the long term.

    Bad for the environment
    Bad for the wallet
    good for the profit margin

I am humbled by your choice mr Muc-Off and gratefully accept the undeserved rewards of my twisted mind.

I would like to donate my winnings to a starving Englishman in Australia, but alas i fear he would misuse the contents to wash his very person and end up with other horrible disfugurements, so I won’t, thank you again Muc-off and the OBT community.

It’s a sanctioned race at the end of the season accessible to many, so don’t forget to check your egos at the sign-on, it will improve your power/weight no end.

Not that that will help if I remember some of the names that live down that way…………..

bench racing is SO much fun, but remember when the flag drops……….. ;)
