Not getting involved in any fashion here being partisan as I respect both you blokes and your knowledge.
Mr Rat is right even TB said that when he bought the KTM, the start line of all Div 1 & 2 is full of KTMs, (except in SE QLD, they tell me the Cobras are sneaking in) as they are the premier performers… but I’ve seen the maintenance schedules some of the top line Racers Dads put in. In fact Bob Cowley, Michael Doohans mentor and ex manager, ex-aussie multi speedway champ was the one who told me to keep Brenton away from the track until he was old enough to run Clutch and geared class for this and several other reasons, if I wanted to continue riding as well. So we got Bren a nice KX and he rides track and trail for fun until such time it becomes apparent that he’s ready and my wallet can handle it.
On the other hand I also fully understand TB’s frame of mind, I owned a YZ80G that was a pearler, not even a set of rings in a full season, but the replacement YZ80H I had dropped its’ bottom end all over NSW & QLD, at the same time my “farmbike” was an IT175F, couldn’t kill it with a stick of dynamite, but the “G” my Grandad bought me was an absolute dog and did the bottom end at 4 months old, 6 months old and 12 months old, when you work fencing as a 14 yr old to pay for your bikes it certainly scarred me on the tuning forks, so took me 29 years to ever own another yamaha dirtbike (owned a dozen yamaha roadies & no probs there) after that, and it’s a scorcher, no complaints.
Motorcycling is an emotional and yes partially ego driven pastime most of the time, and I get frustrated with others opinions when blatantly ignorant in origin, but both of you are experienced blokes and have good points niether wrong from your perspective, personally I won’t touch another KTM until they sort out the PDS to suit my style, but usually the motors (2T) are unreproachable.

We’re talking about an MA50 here aren’t we?
Same bottom end as the Pro-senior with half the HP? ergo understressed?
I’m with Dave how many hours? as the one we had did two years almost everyweekend for 2-4 hrs, sold it and it was as tight as a drum, whereas the Pro-seniors…….. well we don’t talk about them anymore.
CR85 TB, one of our mates oldest has one, goes like a shot cat, and can’t be killed, nice suspension too.

another one 2T riders please try this at least once before making your minds up.
Mix a batch of fuel up at 25:1 oil ratio, this would be 10 litres of petrol to 400ml of decent 2T oil, try it and be objective see what you think, perfect time to do it is now as summer comes on as the jetting would need leaning down in most circumstances, and this will do it as a side benefit.

Cornflower works as well as Babypowder if not better on tyre/tube changes.

Ok Mr Rat, just that Brens’ MA50 was in standard tune and gave faultless service no matter how much he thrashed it, admittedly the Pro-seniors were a bit more maintenance intensive, but I was expecting that, as you said constant >8K rpm does wear things out quickly
Afew months ago the local Husky dealer was broken into and a number of bikes taken from the workshop, problems were…
*The owner of the business is an oldtime realife 1 percenter bikie, who knows this game well and is liked and respected by many across the community,
*two of the bikes they stole were bikes in for repairs owned by a very prominent footballing family whose matriach and patriach are local elders.
*They opened their mouths just the once about their new acquisitions.
Results, bikes returned with apologies by other members of the young criminals families, and a rumoured smacking or two was handed out.
But unfortunately this is not always the case.
A few years back family friends had their Kids bikes stolen out of a locked shed with a big $$$$ skiboat and many other things ignored, a few months later he was drinking down at a Coffs pub and was offered just such bikes by a skinny dirty feral looking bloke, cut a long story short it was friends of his across the road nieghbours who learnt they had bikes, and watched them leave for a trip away. Bikes recovered, scumbags prosecuted and found guilty of this and other bike thefts, again far too uncommon.

It’s almost like Dirtbikes have become a form of trade between lowlifes.
I now know my paranoia is justified

Wow that’s out of character for those motors TB, Friday arvo special?
TB, was it the same speech I give my lad in company of other bike riders
you know the one“Now son when ever we are around others you are not allowed to overtake me, or undercut me on the corners, pretend I’m faster, now there’s a big chocolate ice cream for you in it…. got it?”

If it has a nipple from the factory, chances are it is s’posed to be greaes until fresh grease is spotted.
Prewash spray like “Preen” and napisan afterwards diluted in warm water with a cloth and scrubber may help you with the carpet, been there and lived to tell the tail……. but tail was sore
