Benny i have a mate in lismore who would be really interested, has it got all the new bits for the engine?
he wants a 450, but all out of his price ATM, and he can turn a spanner too… funnily enough he has a YZ250, one of the three idiots
who I ride with sometimes I was telling you about.
Bruce
Ok Austblue, contrary to Motos post try not to chamfer the ends of the clips, a huge percentage of topend failures is caused by circlips coming loose, makes a huge mess of your barrel.
Always push the open ends of the circlips to either 6.30 or 12.00 positions, you can push them around once in the circlip groove, a little oil here helps.
Whatever technique of build you use always preoil the wrist pin and bearing
Put one circlip on before fitting the piston to the rod, I use the old wrist pin to ensure the circlips are secure and seated.
Fitting the piston before the barrel is the perferred option, then push the piston to BDC and slide barrel over the rings.
Be careful snagging the rings, phone a friend if this is your first time, the bottom edge of the barrel is chamfered to allow easier fitment, always check the rings open ends are sitting over the pins as you slip the barrel on.
Ring end gap is best done suing an old piston to square the new rings in the barrel.
Some blokes recommend a “dry” build, not me I always coat everything with a lite coating of 2T oil and have never had an issue yet.

sounds like a plan My Man,
BTW Boony wre you on the narna this morning around 11.00ish turning off the highway towards the hills?Bruce
Ok it’s a plan, “East Coast tour de Bovine 2010”
Dates and venues TBAGee here I am s’posed to be cleaning b4 heading out to tamworth for the weekend, instead sitting here grinning like a goon…
Yeah Moto first OBT based ride, Mr Menace turned down a ride on the Warlock, but i did take his 300 for a ride through a makeshift S/T in dense pine, and I was very impressed with the turning, and those 300 motors are still the most versatile thing around, so I did a couple of log hops to check out the PDS improvements, it has come a long way (his is also revalved and resprung) but PDS is still PDS as i took the warlock over the same logs 10 minutes later and direct comparo tells me a linkage doesn’t “shock” as much, so Mr KTM when ya gunna admit it’s dead?.
Benny did well for a bloke who hasn’t ridden for 5 months, you’d never pick it was like he’d ridden the day before and was rock solid as usual, and Menace handled all the knarly stuff with great aplomb, and there were some nasty descents that could bring a bloke unstuck big time if he didn’t know his stuff, had young Mick breathing down my neck the whole time and had the impression he was being nice and respecting his elders as he coulda taken me anytime
.
Still can’t believe how dusty and rutted it is I have never ridden in dustier conditions and this area is usually moist and damp, mongrel 952 was sliding everywhere anytime i got anywhere near the power threatening to spit me off, those tyres are damn dangerous.
I can’t believe the luck I have up here, thousands of excellent tracks to pick close by and every ride I go on the company is top notch.
Gunna do it next year bigger and better, with camping thrown in for fun, and Benny you are a born lead rider IMHO.

We rode for the future (70%) but the big fella handled it with ease, couple of good knarly little climbs he nailed them and got some two wheel drifts going as he rounded me up.. apparently sick of eating my roost ( I told him the warlock spits it out). he rode just behind Benny most of the day, seemed to be comfortable there.
All old bulls are good blokes.
It’s the age groupBruce
hey Jak apparently there will be utube footage tomorrow, will post link.
They look good in white Bullocks, painful to keep nice tho’ but they do look the part.
Boony yellow can look good with black or Blue hued trim.

Been stuck in a quarry most of the day doing machinery operator interviews, hot ‘n dusty and all the time I’m thinking, wonder if i could ride my bike up that bank over there, or looking over towards the ranges where I’ll be tomorrow on the back of the Warlock.
Working is somethig I do to support my riding habit.

Hey Corey, what did they slug you for it?
I’ve settled on the acerbis 13.5 litre for the YZ as it is a name that has a good rep and has been around for quite a while and comes with all fittings and two fuel taps.
Bruce
I tried speeding last month,….. and i got away with it
I was speeding last December, and I didn’t get away with it, but it was only a little fine.
Do you think I learn’t my lesson?
BC
Ok Ollie whatjaya got in stock for a 19″, I’m fairly well ready.
Bruce
I agree Moto, it is just moronic to deny us that and so many other improvements already sitting on the shelf, one could be cynical about it and claim it is “tricklefeeding” the buyers but I don’t understand. My RZ roadies had excellent “on-demand” systems 20 years ago.
The 250 robably has the SX motor and the bore/stroke ratio lends itself to spinning up very quickly, probably too quick for most used to heavier reciprocating masses.
If I may as bold as to say “try a Husky 300” apparently they are a better overall package.
Moto have I ever suggested buying a 300?…..
