I now use a pressure washer to clean the mud and cwap off my bike, but a word or warning to Yamaha owners…do not, repeat do not get it anywhere near your linkages, the bloke I bought mine off was pressure washer mad, and my linkages look like they’re going to be a nightmare to replace the rollers in now.

Yep pressurised sump is just lingo for compression getting past the rings and into the crankcase, it’s why old motors had foam breathers on tappet covers.
TBs suggestion has merit, has the bike been in any compromising situations recently?

I don’t need beer (can’t drink it) so Michael, if perchance I have been of any assistance at all, feel free to have a few on my behalf, and I am sure Boony & TB feel the same…..

I’ve got a DID X-ring chain that is not impressing me one little bit, no lube left in the rollers, stretches like a yoga guru, yet they have always been the best in IMO, maybe I got a Dud or someone is making ripoffs and i bought one from the bloody dealer at full price too…. :(

Hardened sprockets & good quality O-ring chain as TB said save you money overall.

A continuity test on the wiring Mick?, what jumps to mind straight up all else being equal for I is a “dead spot” in the starter motor itself, or the dodgy killswitch scenario

The catch can can be a really good indicator of a pressurised sump issue. And also knowing who you are and you previous issues, I jumped staright to the big one as you would have eliminated the obvious. The plug being fouled, the non-idling, all points to a sudden loss of compression. Now in other engines this can also be cracked liners, heads etc, but seeing as yours is a KTM ( I cannot believe I am saying this) not a little manufacturer from istanbul I would not go to those options first, although would not a cracked valved seat do this as well ( I don’t even know if yours has valve seat inserts or not) but the most common cause is the rings out to lunch.

TB in the ye olde days if you badly overheated your bike wouldn’t the Chromium rings loose tension quickly?

There is nothing quite as ego busting as being rounded up by a 10 yr old on an 85 on an MX track.

It’s one of those things in life you have to look forward to  .

(in my case it was a 7 yr old on a bombed out SX50, I could hear his laughter above the scream of his bike) :S

    Know the feeling Mick?

I think you have a problem that is really a problem Mr A Blue, sounds like you have lost ring tension or something has been swallowed up and given your bore a few issues…

I’m am sorry but it is the biggest and most likely cause of blowby, and all kidding aside it sounds sudden and dramatic.

But can he stomach Avocado? and post at the same time I’m fairly sure if he can eat prawns and drink beer and post he will have at some time or another, besides

I’ve done prioritisation therapy, it is closely linked to “timemanagement indoctrination” and “productivity enhancement classes”, all fun while you’re there, as soon as you walk out the door you go straight for the Guacamole anyway.

Who got to 1500 posts and was it worth it Mr Rat?

Chris you can do it today if you try hard, think less write more, it’s a tatctic that works for so many…..

Went out for about three hours riding in deep sandy area, mixed with dry dirt.

Conclusion worked to a point, the rollers had very little left on them after three hours, but i am running a plastic “roller scraper” as well on the front chainguard, but the sideplates amd sprockets had a good coating which seemed to resist fling altogether and after curing for a few weeks did not become a grinding paste. No stretching of chain this time chain “rattle was not heard at all and no slap or undue heat each time I checked, so I’ll keep using it.
