Late model husky? like past 12-15 years?
yep ok it has composite bore plating, a mixture of aluminium, silica, chromium and several others in an almalgam, you don’t really want to run a mechanical hone in it. The crosshatching is only put in these bores to bed the rings in ancreate a half decent seal once combustion pressure is behind them. What you do with coated bores is get a good new scrotchbrite and some kero and do it by hand, actually on the 250 I used a round plastic container slightly smaller than the bore and wrapped a scotchbrite around it and worked it one way down the bore and reversred its direction coming back up, continuing until I have a nice light cross-hatching showing, and Bobs yer auntie.

Wash it thoroughly in kero and then hot soapy water dry, blow with compressed air and Bobs back in his wifes undies.

Our Police officers up here are pretty good fellas and ladies I deal with them almost daily, they have more than enough to worry about with declining hours/staff etc than worry about a few unrego bikes at the Mo’, but it’s also the local laddies that are young and on Mxer’s and apart from those two things the young ones are pretty good, it’s their back yard and people talk to parents and all that.
Our problem is the bloody Park rangers, you wouldn’t believe the attitide of some of them up here, the grunts are good they are glorified labourers I know heaps of them, but thier immediate supervisors and cohorts in the advisory groups want everything made illegal, I had one years ago telling (we were in forestry vehicles) we were on their turf, we got the maps and gps out and informed them politely they were 10 hectares into a working forest. You should see who’s on the interview panels to get the rangers jobs, 1 parks person and three greenies from various “lockaway” groups, best practice is not followed, more like how many times you’ve protested something.

Should see ’em going off about the WRC event next weekend, they’re pathetic and grasping at straws now.

Take a chainsaw chain as an extreme example, I’ll leave the cutter issue alone as this is a seperate component altogether.
Now chainsaw chains are made from some very high tensile, high carbon chromium metals, they are covered in crud and some of the timbers have up to 17% silica content, they must be lubricated constantly, if they aren’t the pins/rollers die very very quickly, quite often plain seizing, they run hot as hades and the main issue is sideplate stretch, now oregon chain doesn’t quite stretch as badly as Stihl brand does, but that has to do with heat treatment at the production end. They don’t wear out pins and rollers despite being covered in “grinding Paste” constantly it stretches from heat rather than wears from friction, because it is lubed. Now our pins and rollers don’t seem to wear much when lubricated, if left unlubricated they do, so all we are left to content with is sideplate stretch, which comes back to tensioing, torque, heat and quality of components.

Mick lanox is great stuff, just don’t use it for long term coating like I did on some flatslides…..the bloke who bought them still swears at me about trying to cleanit off once it had dried into a thick brown gunk…..

I thought the 525 topend just went onto the 450 cases?

    probably wrong tho’

And 525/530s are cheap as chip second hand, there was a 530 on another forum advertised for 6.5k, 08 model, seems you can’t give ’em away, whereas the 450s seem to hold a bit more value.

My regular riding mate owns an ’06 KTM300 he rides in anger, quite quickly, but for a bit of alark when we go out with my family he brings his XR250 for fun and giggles…he actually loves it and it steers like nothing else in tight going.
TB I had an perfectly good XR250RG (motor was abit tired, but i had a new 280 ballards kit for it) I canabalised for a project, sorta wished i hadn’t now, woulda been fun for those easy rides as well.
