Righto TB, more sand! These F&^%ers are going down :P

Was looking at doing the run to birdsville and then the flinders next year,
    I’m thinking I need the practice :(

I don’t think I can include sand in the next one. I am prerunning with Steve “Wolfman” Smith this week. It won’t have sand but will be a navigation real challenge I am thinking

    TB

Good :P It was fun the first time around, now we can move on.

Out of curiosity though, how many people NOT riding adventurized dirt bikes managed the sand section on the pegs? I have to know :pinch:

Well I couldnt respond on Wiggy’s tech thread to Squiggles video calling me a sick bastard    80m of sand starts the name calling :P  no wonder the 1200 boys reckon you are soft

    TB

     I was hoping you would spot that! And you dont even ride an XC anymore :P

bloody sand, with 200000 klm of 4wd touring over the last few years I was happy to never see another sand track again …. but no, TB goes and slams a sand section on an adventure bike ride. F%#*

Seriously though it was pretty fun, its always a good laugh when a large ego ends up on its arse in the sand, wookie was laughing quite hard when the squiggle lid popped up from between the wooboys :) Mainly becuase I was doing just fine but took his advice. “I reckon it would be easier just getting up on the pegs and hooking in” he said ………. “I’M OFF” I yelled 7 seconds later :) His advice sucked. Gotta love the bike to bike intercom.

That’s brilliant Mr Squiggle. Thanks for taking the time to do the vid. I’ll be getting it done tomorrow.

Are you going to do the main fuse mod?

    Wigster

I thought about it Wigster but so far have simply opted to pack a couple of spare fuses, I might see how it goes, once you know about the problem its pretty easy to manage, dont wash the underseat area unless the drain hole is working. Thinking about it, its probably alot simpler to just drill an extra drain hole in the bottom of battery box, if the fuse doesnt get drenched its unlikey to ever need replacing.

Its not a tank off job wigster, there is a bracket at the back of the tank you have to take off, just a couple of bolts, the pre-filter is just a rubber insert so you basically just work it backwards out of the airbox, clean, oil, replace and put the bracket back on.

Ill do mine tomorrow and take a couple of pics or a vid for you.

    Its a 10 min job :)

Giving the bike a wash today and after last weeks Nav ride I thought it might be an idea to clean my pre filter on the Tiger.

Took the seat off to get to it but it seems to disappear under the tank.

Do I need to take the tank off to be able to remove it? Mr Squiggle, any ideas? Anyone?

    Wigster

Did you install the unifilter wigster?

Any chance I can get a crack at bollocks? happy to split accomodation with someone as long as Mrs Squiggle clears another weekend away on the bikes.

Thats correct james, heated gear replaces think layers and comes with wire harness that takes 10 minutes to install. I put one on each bike so I can swap and change and stay warm :)

As we spoke at the airport mate fuel won’t leak out. I will take a few pictures tomorrow morning and show you how to discount the line (special clip and safety) and where I routed my cables

    Thanks a lot TB,
While the bike is in pieces I think I will go the whole hog and get some new bling handlebars and heated grips, that Lithgow ride was cold. l am also keen on getting a damper after Plommer rd   and it might as well be now cause I don’t want to dismantle the bike again, not something I excel at

Don’t think Steve still sells the dampers does he?As for handlebars I think I read you got yours at Suttos if so would you mind letting me know what to get and I will do a little shopping.

    Cheers James

Hey james, I had heated grips on a street triple, super convenient but when you sell the bike you have to go again and if it gets really cold they dont really cut it. I just bought a set of heated gerbings gloves and jacket liner for rides like lithgow, much better that heated grips IMO used them on the wauchope ride twice. Little bit fiddly but absolutely great for keeping warm. I think ADVmoto sells heated gear as well. Others may be able to comment on those products.

Tb is spot on james, you may get a little bit of a dribble as you disconnect it but dont panic its just the little bit of fuel sitting in the line. You can always put a rag underneath to catch any dribbles so they dont leak over the motor etc.

Your yami is most likely to have the two sided push type connector with a slide lock that you will have to raise before you can push the buttons in to remove, similar to first example in vid below.

No Probs JTB, understand completely. I had a quick look on ebay for you and the contour roams start at about $219, which you probably saw as well, it says from Australia but often coming from Hong Kong. Not that it matters too much.

Could not find much on the Kogans at all from a review point of view but the sony starts at about 200 as well.

You could try and win this
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-Action-Cam-with-Wi-Fi-HD-Camcorder-Black-/181198066597?pt=AU_Video_Cameras&hash=item2a303f13a5

Its at cessnock and I can pick it up for you if you dont want the risk the whole online transaction thingy.

    Good luck

I own quite a few different cameras. If you can, get the contour. They just have the best mounting options and are slick to use, my favourite of the lot and worth the extra, rotating lens is awesome. You just whack some velcro on the top of your helmet and camera, rotate the lens and away you go.

The sony is great too but just not as cool to use and sticks out the side of the helmet. The gopro looks like your trying to communicate with aliens from mars and sticks out too much. Good for mounting on the bike.

If you like I can see if I can still get a deal for you on the PQI which is also very good, (thats what I used for the rear facing footage on nav ride) the deal I got for wookie and skyrider meant they got the 32GB SD and wireless accessory to control the camera from the Iphone /android for under $250. PM me if your keen. I can get the base camera for $178.00 and if anyone else wants one I might be able to get a deal on the extras if a few people want them. Otherwise happy shopping and good luck. Not sure about going for the cheapest you can find though ……
