ahhhh, curiosity satisfied, I did wonder

Your mate is in luck, that bike will have all the work done, maybe you should have done same before you gold plated your WR with accessories

Sitting here watching footage, gotta get out on the big bike again before major service, Ill put together a ride and post her up before the little bike bug bites again :)

    Hey Squiggle

What’s up, does Mrs Squiggle want her trumpy back after seeing how you treat it. A set of knobbies and some enduro saddle bags and enduro from duffle from Adventure Moto would fit on the super duke – whack a bash plate on it – it’ll be fine

Seriously – nice looking bike. You obviously need to save some points on your licence

    Linz

I think Mrs Squiggle is of the opinion that if I wreck it, I own it, and SHE gets a new one. ……. pffft, maybe for christmas Ill buy her a new 300EXC ;)

She has threatened to paint it pink on a number of occasions ……. so Ill be riding a pink triumph XC before I adventurize a superduke :P BTW, did someone just buy a DR plindz? hmmmm?

    Hey all,
Big thanks to TB and all the crew for putting on a top ride, I for one had a great day out on Saturday. All round fantastic trails, even though I was pushing a 1200 GS to it’s limit (mine too I might add ;) ) The single line Banda Banda was a hoot on the big bike, sure didn’t need anymore horsepower, bit more suspension would have helped.
Although Squiggle made us 1200 riders out to be soft by not riding the OBT route Sunday, he certainly didn’t waste time nor mince words about agreeing to ride back via Bellbrook, Kookaburra, Gingers Creek and Knodingbull with a detour along Murrays Creek trail just to finish off the days offroad riding. As a matter of fact, at the end of Murrays Creek when he turned up I do remember a certain rider screaming at the top of his voice “fa…..k yeh….. how good was that!!!!! He was right it’s a fantastic trail even on a 1200….Brownie came past me toward the end getting air over the contour banks….jumpin GS.

Looking forward to the next ride.

    Cheers

    Skyrider…….. Rob

Yup, F*^K yeah is right, I think I said that quite a few times over the weekend. My other fav was the erosion mounds on the way up to the look out on saturday and the track coming down…. friggin awesome. Not to mention following the ridge line down into cowpat pasture after that great little hill climb. I am pretty sure we passed the Tenere being piloted by James on that hill :) Awesome the way these all flowed, a great route.

The rear facing camera mounted mid triumph worked out awesome, the footage is great. I should have ridden in front of brownie on murrays run :)

Just going through the footage of day one now to see if I managed to catch any crash footage worth patching together.

oh yeah, and you are soft :P

First couple of ADV rides I was wearing full armour and boots, not alot feel on the big bikes but plenty of protection, considering the speeds you do on a 220 KG dirt bike in tight trails. Wookie had a close call when he flipped his GS on a ride and had it landed another foot to the left I reckon it could have been a pretty tragic weekend, lesson learned and for a very experience rider.

I am thinking I had the right idea the first time around. For day cruising standard adv gear. For Nav rides I think full protection given the increased chance of accident due to rivalry in larger groups and knarly terrain.

You know TB, I reckon you should have a grading system for the ADV rides.

Grade 1 – Learning to ride on my new ADV bike, dirt and tar roads please and no creek crossing.
Grade 2 – Been riding for years but never in the dirt. Causeways and occasional creek crossings, mild hills and challenges, good road bike rider but need to learn a few dirt techniques.
Grade 3 – Been riding adv bikes in the dirt for years bring on the pubs and lattes
Grade 4 – Retired Enduro king I can wheelie my GS over logs
Grade 5 – I can ride my ADV bike like a 300 2 stroke up snotty hills all day, get out of my way.

With ADV bikes fitness is not as big of an issue as with enduro bikes but when you get into trouble the big bikes bite hard. I reckon while everyone can ride these tracks there are alot of reflexes and techniques that some of these technical sections could require and it may be the difference between a close call and a visit to hospital if you dont have them and you do get into trouble.

I think the advantage of a grade system is that you can either put grade warnings on the GPS route or simply use coloured arrows to let riders know what they are in for. An ADV level rider that locks the front in a rut on a steep down hill for instance is going to learn the hardway what enduro riders already know, not a good lesson on a 200KG adv bike + lugguage. Especially if the big pig lands on your foot :P

The other benefit is guys that are improving can join the appropriate rides that forum members organize themselves and increase thier technical ability gradually.

    My 2 cents B)

Well what can I say. I finally get to turn up on a ride & what a ride it had a bit of everything. I was really enjoying myself until I had my little incident.
Then the ride out was quite interesting to say the least. My little excursion down the embankment was interesting to say the least. Once at the bottom of the embankment I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I was keen to take ace up on his suggestion to bury me right there & then but I decided to grin & bear it & get myself out of there. I must say the ride out toevery bit of concentration I had. That part must of been the longest ride of my life. I would just like to say a big thanks to ace, eagle & everyone else involved in helping gete out & thanks to Steve for coming & taking back to kempsey & to aero for driving up from port to collect me & take me to hospital.
Now the good news is I didn’t break my heal bone & 2of my toes. Bad news is I broke every other bone in my foot. I’m still waiting for surgery (i could be on here for over a week)as my foot is to swollen & apparently I will have a lot of screws & plates once it’s done. But getting back on the bike is going to be a long away away.
Ps. Ollie no I’m not selling it so don’t ask
    Cheers puddles

Puddles, glad to hear your heel and two toes are ok, good luck with the recovery mate, lots of patience and a bit of physio and hopefully you will back on both feet.

I am amazed that the your foot copped that much damage with the boots you were wearing, they looked pretty solid from memory. What were they mate?

    THE SCORE
Squiggle fell off in the sand, SR fell off in the mud, Wookie fell off but wont provide any details and denies it and Brownie fell off opening a gate on Sunday. Thats 1 each boys 😆

I for one will be on the next one. See yas all there.

HaHa, good on ya Squiggle. I didn’t actually deny it, but if ploughing a Beema through Lantana on a corner with a stick through my front wheel is falling off, I fell off. It looked like a D9 dozer had gone through after I pulled her out. :P
Its funny, when riding the dirt squirters, you hope no one is there to see you come a gutser, but riding the GS, you hope there are as many people there as possible to help you drag it out of the scrub.

I took a bit of artistic license there wookie :) D9 dozer is a pretty apt description, one of the benefits of riding with GS boys all weekend …… less fatigue, you can sit in the slip stream

Home, Showered Fed and Watered :)

Great weekend, thanks TB and all involved, adventuremoto and yamaha included.

First OB ADV ride for Wookie, skyrider and Brownie who all rode R1200GS bikes which raised a question mark with the illustrious organizer who knew what was in store. The boys proved they can mix it with the little bikes on the saturday, living up to thier usual standard and setting a great pace. Until Brownie lost his luggage ….. Skyrider found it and lugged the extra hard case, dangling from the back of his GS by a piece of strap for 70KLMs of single and snotty double track. What a legend! I have never seen a man hug another man with as much gratitude as brownie displayed when SR rode into view with that ridiculous hard luggage banging around the arse end of his bike ….. I didnt make that up, that was genuine man love right there.

Brownie securely fastened the luggage to the back of the correct GS with the NOT so trusty gaffa tape and lost it again 3 minutes later. SR looked on in dismay as the luggage once again bounced down the trail and brownie, once again, rode off into the distance. There was moment of stunned silence and then …… I wont repeat what was said, it was an impressive display of language skills by SR

We got many photo opps when the main group of riders started to catch up on there way through our little roadside repair station. Unfortunately one of the first riders through was puddles and as he came around the corner he locked up the front and proceeded to park his motorcycle in a very unprofessional manner, right ontop of his own leg. Brownie finally managed to score some tie downs from a well prepared old bull and when eagle and a few other helpful chaps showed up SR and I helped a battle scarred puddles back onto his mount and his fellow OB riders escorted him on while we gave the heads up to those that followed to take it easy.

Puddles, your a legend. Another quick hand to get him across a rocky creek crossing and we left him to the rest of his crew that had discovered thier missing comrade.

    THE SCORE
Squiggle fell off in the sand, SR fell off in the mud, Wookie fell off but wont provide any details and denies it and Brownie fell off opening a gate on Sunday. Thats 1 each boys 😆

Well, the GS boys can ride, but they also proved they cant do it two days in a row, with skyrider and brownie crying uncle on Saturday night. Skyrider was just too damn F&&%ED to continue for another day of TB GS torture testing and Brownie just wanted to get home and cuddle his KTM 250 EXC in a dark corner. Wookie was sore but still game, and though my Zumo 660 had died …. again!   we were going to push on.

Had a great night on Saturday night. The staff at the Nambucca motel had a great sense of humour and were great fun.

SR knocked on the door today with a alternate ride planned and wookie had a GPS route that pretty much coincided, when wookie elected to head home via the new plan B I decided to follow, with my rooted Zumo in toe.

We came back today via taylors arm, willie willie, gingers creek and knottingbull. I am pretty sure we did not miss a single pub on the route home ;) Wookie even got us to his old local and proceeded to sit outside it until opened and served the boys beer. Bloody germans. The mix of TB trails on the saturday and the cruizy sunday home was actually an awesome combo so all was definately not lost.

I for one will be on the next one. See yas all there.
