It looks cool, but the picture looked a lot cooler in 2009/10 when it was first put together by a moto mag, on what they thought the 2015 model may look like. I have also seen a similar picture labelled the 2018 model.

In reality the 2015 model will just be this years model with bold new graphics.

It’s dissapointing the effort some bikes shops and their associated manufacturers put in to trying to prove the owner was responsible for the bikes failure. In some cases it may be warranted, but in a lot of border line cases, bike shops seem to go very hard to put the blame back on the owner.

I’m not sure how they can relate a damaged seat and header to a failure located in the clutch area. They are stretching things a bit far to make the assumption that it was all caused due to a big spill.

I once had a chain saw fall off a shelf in my garage and rip the crap out of my seat, I’m just glad I didn’t have any warranty claims after that. As for scuff marks on the clutch case, are they kidding?

I don’t know who you purchased your bike off but hopefully they will help you out a bit more then what they have done so far, good luck with it.

in reply to: Leatt / other neck brace users responses please #222951

A few months ago I had a disc replaced in my neck and took the opportunity to discuss the benefits of neck braces with my neurosurgeon, as a result I don’t wear my brace any more.

He had an artificial vertebra and showed me how it reacts when the head impacts an object and the resulting trauma of the spine. He explained the various areas and how they combined to absorb the force on the impact, but further explained when using a leatt style neck brace, the mechanics of the spine are interupted and the force of the impact is centralised lower down the spine.

He had to dumb it down, but essentially instead of a large area of the spine working to absorb the blow, the neck brace forces the impact in to much smaller area, putting much greater stress on that smaller area.

I’ve seen the end result several times from a high speed off on a road bike resulting in a snapped neck. From the trauma around the neck area, it is obvious to see that the torso has rotated faster than the head, resulting in the fatal injury.

This is of course different to offroad riding where the speeds are substancially less, but when previously wearing my neck brace, I have always been concerned that if I had a big off at a reasonable speed, the neck brace might dig in to the ground, preventing a normal rotation of the head and a subsequent snapping of the neck.

Wearing a neck brace is always going to be an individual decision, but the only benefit I see is to take a bit of weight off my wallet.

I would actually like to see a decent study done on neck braces, which would need to be independant and involve two groups, one group using a brace and the other not. All people would need to have Xray, MRI and CT scans prior to the study, and the same done every time they have an off and one at the conclusion. After a 2-3 year period then crunch the data and get a result that was worth printing. To my knowledge no such study has ever been done.

I’m another convert for getting things checked out sooner rather than later. A couple of years ago my family got smashed with the the big C. During the same period my mother had lung cancer, my sister ovarion cancer and I had a lowly skin cancer, which required surgery and radio therapy. Only last week, the father in law found out he has prostrate cancer after the tests came back.

It only takes a short while to get a test, but it could save you a life time.

Wont be venturing out this weekend. Took me about 45 minutes to get a gas bottled filled at a servo normaly 5 min away today. The great western highway was at a standstill in the Lawson area bout 4pm today, lots of bike on trailers going west over the mountains. Clarence will be a nightmare over the week end, wont catch me any where near it.

in reply to: Bike sales scammers #208496

It’s a two edged sword. I have been looking for a used Kato and saw a bike on bikesales from memory I was interested in. No phone number in the add and I wasnt prepared to put my mobile in the “Put your number to get their number screen”, so I used the enquiry option to ask some questions about the bike. Received a stupid responce back about how “Sic” the sticker kit was, so I scrubbed that bike off the list.

Seller may have thought the inquiry was from a scammer, but I’m happy to keep looking after getting a stupid responce.

Both my kids couldn’t ride pushies prior to getting PW’s. Had push bikes but no interest in learning how to ride them. Within 30 min of getting on the PW, the daughter who was 6 at the time was riding it with no issues at all. Both throttle and brake control were perfect. She is 7 now and about to step up tp a KTM. The kids still have very little interest in push bikes, but due to the time on the motorised versions, both are now competent on the push variety.

PW 50, not sure of the 80, come with a power reduction plate in the exhaust manifold. If you purchased the bike second hand, this may have been removed. Reinstalling it will cut down the power.

There are pictures of a very black melted 2012 Berg 390 (On DBW), from a recent berg ride day, which suffered a quick demise at the hands of one of the guys taking it for a test.

in reply to: Neck Braces for trail riding #205464

Having been off the bike for a while due to a neck injury (Work not bike) and about to go under the knife to get some titanium put in the neck, a neck brace is a top priority for me right now. I’ve never felt I’ve needed one before, but after speaking with my neurosurgeon and now understanding how fragile the neck can be, I’ll be out shopping the first week after surgery, the actual riding part may take a bit longer.

in reply to: OBT sweeps Mt Seaview. The reports. #205613

No offence but politics are a very big factor in maintaining riding areas. Probably not so much in the Seaview arena, as it is more local residents and we are dealing with private property. But in the end it is state and federal governments which will introduce legislation to restrict this sport, both on private and public land.
I’ve been through this all before with fishing and the introduction of marine parks years ago, I’ve attended numerous public forums, council meeting and been on advisory committees, as such I am well aware of the influence minority groups have over local, state and federal authorities.
I rode my first single track in the late 70’s with my dad and his brother. That riding area and many like it are no longer available. When my kids are older I want the same opportunities for them and not be restricted to a crowded bike park and as such I am very passionate about assisting where I can, in every state of Aus.
Slightly off topic, but many of the people on here ride the Clarence, sunny corner area, as I have for 30 odd years. Currently there is one group who are very active in pushing for the area to be rezoned, so as to prevent both 4WD and motor cycles use. I have a good friend who is a member of the group and although our views may differ slightly he keeps me up to date with what is going on. The group has recently (In his words) had some promising correspondence with a NSW MP, the details of which you won’t see posted on their web site for obvious reasons.
Complacency is the biggest issue in all sports and off road riding appears to be no different. As far as Sea View goes I have sent correspondence to the council and have made contact with friends who work and live in the area to do the same. I won’t bother posting any further in this topic.

My comments were not directed at you. It was a general comment and observation.

No probs. another intraweb interpretation.,

and I do agree with your comments.

Already sent off an email to the council, I hope every one gets on board with this, as riding areas are shrinking on a daily basis. It’s very dissapointing to visit other bike web sites and see the complacency that exists in the offroad community. The green community have never had such a strong hold in parliament and it is very concerning the political clout that some of these groups have.

The general community it self is another issue we have, as the sport can have many negative aspects for those not fully educated in the responsible running and organisation of offroad events.

in reply to: Bullet Proof Design Guards #205389

Congrats on the Aus distribution rights. I have used most guards over the years and BP have been my last port of call, in my humble opinion they are the best available in the world. A big pat on the back for the pricing as well, as it is comparible to the states, so it looks like my future purchases stay in Aus.

I noticed you offer the anodised option, the last set of rad guards I got were orange. Will you be able to get the coloued option from B Proof as well. When the new kato comes at the end of the year I would prefer the orange model.

It makes the bike go heaps faster ;)
