So are the trails well ridden through the pines Mr. Blue ?

    Are they “pine singles”??

I’m thinking yes Ev , I haven’t ridden them but I’ve seen the plantation , if your keen for an explore let me know or I’ll check them out and you can join me when I’ve found something you’d like ;)

    Nice mod ;)
, we rode from Jindabyne to Hampton on the recent High Country ride and we ended up doing the last hour in thick fog and darkness , more light would have been good :)
How good are the solstice lights in fog ?

I was 1st up on Sunday morning , or so I thought !!! I heard an alert ‘ Hello mate ‘ come from the deck and their was STM laying on the thinnest mattress known to man with his jacket rolled up as a pillow. He obviously had hardly slept. He just can’t seem to get the hang of camping out for the night !!! :D

Rob and the Hobbit cooked up a great bekkie and we geared up and hit more top trail with Moose in the lead. We started off on a rutted twin track where lefty ran out of legs and disappeared in a puddle :D his bike took on a little bit of water which he soon sorted out. We hit a fence line trail and some of yesterdays trails in reverse and the pace was on , no sooner was I dropped on the corner and Spud showed up as sweep. We covered a lot of ground quickly and rode more fun hills.

On one hill climb I just caught STMs jersey halfway up out the corner of my eye , I thought he’d ran off the trail so I just laughed and kept going , up a snotty steep section , over a boulder , over a second boulder then I saw the rock wall and realized what I’d done. This was finger hill where Moose broke his finger and DJ binned it yesterday , I’d missed the trail to by pass this section and STM had followed moose into it !!
It was a bit awkward turning the bike round balancing on a boulder and down I went !! :D
The track I was supposed to take was awesome and I was smiling the whole way about my stuff up .

Moose once again lead a top ride and we all got back safely and lunch was cooking , after a feed and a swim we said our goodbyes and headed off home. Spud , Rob and I didn’t stop reliving an excellent weekend for the 4 hour drive back , it was Robs 1st old bull outing and I’m really happy he enjoyed it , his riding improved no end and his liver survived.
Spud laughed like a hyena the whole time and never got sick of being tagged the Hobbit :P

    A massive thanks to

Mick and Melissa for making us feel welcome and sorting out some great meals

Moose for being Moose , leading the rides and cutting in an epic grass track

TB for hatching the plan at the last minute and making it happen

Rob for overloading his Hilux with all our gear

Spud for overloading his trailer with our bikes :pinch:

And to all the Old Bulls who make these weekends so good !!!

    Cheers

Thanks Blue, Whiporie looks good and its close to Yamba……Spud..Nick do you guys know this area? or know someone who does, Im keen :woohoo:

I think Mr. Blue is talking west of Whiporie which isn’t that far from my place but I’ve never explored it. I heard their is good riding over their so I’ll ask around Ev and if I can find anything out I can take us on a good ride out to Whiporie and we can explore from their.

I left the singles in the morning with memories of chasing TB on the mighty 530 and only staying anywhere near close in the tight singles , watching Moose punt Ol Burple along at a great pace , getting roosted by lefty on ever fire road :D , seeing Crash and Chicken bar banging every chance they had , hearing the Hobbit laugh his head off when I tried to take on slippery trail pinned in 4 th gear and doing a complete 360 before landing in the bog :D , watching Rob get better and better as the day went on and getting his back wheel under control and seeing DJ take on the pain of a boulder in the chest and still have a ball ;) .

Mick sorted us up with a tasty lunch and we freshened up in his pool before heading out to Mooses and hitting the awesome grass track he’d freshly cut in . I had never ridden grass track before and after a couple of laps on the 250 I wasn’t sure it was for me. Rob offered me a go on his DRZ to see how the suspension felt to me and I did a few laps and started to get used to riding a completely flat track. Next I rode TBs KTM 530 and now I was grinning , 5 laps on the 530 and I was puffing so I pulled in and hopped on DJs KTM 400. I have to say this was the best bike so far and I found myself getting quicker laps in and even managed to hang with Lefty , Spud and Crash ( just ) for 2 laps while they tried to run each other over :D

It wasn’t long before STM arrived and got ready for a ride in record time , I rode a few laps with him and I then rode his WR250 while he took out Conners YZ. We then swapped back and went out again , this time I took Spuds WRF 450 and had a ball until I got a bit over confident backing in to a corner and suddenly finding traction , the old girl tried to buck me of on the high side but I hung on and lucked my way out of a buster !!!!!

With the grass track now a big highlight for me we left Mooses and headed back to Micks shed for another swim and a few breath fresheners :) :)
The food Mick organized was spot on and the beers flowed and piss taking started. We watched all the footage Crash and I had recorded that day and checked out Micks proffesional pics. The last video shown was filmed by me following TB , getting taken by chicken then pushing to my limit , then beyond , I hit and erosion mound and landed on an off camber wet rut. The only option was to head butt the ground and roll around like an idiot :D
TB enjoyed it that much he played just the crash at least 10 times to everyone’s joy :D

    More later ….

What a great weekend , I had a ball from the minute we met up at Spuds house on Friday afternoon. Rob400 was good enough to drive ( thanks mate ) and supply an Esky loaded with beer and ice, he couldn’t stop thinking about getting started on the beers for the whole 3 1/2 hour drive. We had a good laugh on the way down with Robs Hilux fully loaded and The Hobbit ( Spud :D ) jammed in the back.

We got to Micks and cracked a beer while setting up , it didn’t take long for the shed party to be in full swing and it was great to see Strucky………………… ( toes was their too ) :D

After the boys finished doing last minute maintenance Lefty set up the scales for the bike weigh ins while TB kept me busy waffling some BS about a KTM and Toes loaded my airbox with sinkers. Bastards :D :D

After a heap of beer we hit the sack ready for a day of riding :woohoo:

Up bright and early and TB maxes us bacon and egg rolls before we hit the trails , Moose mainly sweeps with Mick leading and was a bit concerned he would struggle finding the trails. He didn’t , ;) we had a great mix of singles , fast fire roads to cool off before more singles and some great hills. All was going well until DeJay binned it on a snooty downhill hurting his ribs , as he was sweep and I was last cornerman I waited for him at the bottom and when their was no DJ , Spud and I road back up to find him. As I pulled up he has bulldogging the Kato down finger hill and in a lot of pain.
The tough little bugger sucked it up and finished the ride !!

I loved the hills Moose through at us and as with TB it was a buzz weaving around fallen riders on the last hill of the day and getting the 250 up 1st go B)

Turns out there are two different bikes. The one pictured up top is the VFR800X. This bike is listed as a sports tourer and uses the old VFR800 v four motor.

The link is to the VFR1200X Cross Tourer which is the new loosely defined ADV bike and uses the motor and frame from the new VFR1200F.

    MCRST20123SA.jpg

Reading the article its sounds like Honda don’t really expect potential buyers do see much off road work. I seems the Cross Tourer is aimed at those riders that want a comfortable long distance tourer, with the image off an ADV bike.

It seems that the VFR800x is also the Crosstourer then Scotty as it too has the Crosstourer badge on the side , I got the picture from the Honda site so I assumed it was the correct bike ? Thanks for finding out the extra info on this bike :)

Although Honda don’t seem to consider the bike that ABR tested to be very capable off road the ABR tester seemed to think it is , which I thought interesting as so many bikes are claimed to be good adventure bikes and don’t live up to expectations !!

I haven’t seen the Hema maps yet Pete but I have got Mud Map on my iPhone and it’s a great tool for checking out fire roads and forest tracks which could have singletracks off them I’ve used mine a lot to get my bearings when exploring.
