Great account of the Tiger Trail Andy
I had a smile reading it
We were all nervous going down that hill mate but that’s what I love about adventure riding , the unknown , and the buzz after getting a big fully loaded bike through a hard track makes the beers taste so much better !!!
Anyway what’s the worst that can happen ………
Nick
Nice work Awesome Chris
, their aren’t many better bike companies than Adventure Moto

Nick, what did you think of the BMW ?
Only the choosen few get to ride them
I would be interested to hear your thoughts…and can they still out drag a Ten?
Bol :woohoo:The Beemer was a good thing Bol but it doesn’t compare to the Tenere for the type of riding we did , the power : traction ratio was all wrong for maintaining speed out of corners on loose ground. I enjoyed the chance to ride a new bike ( who wouldn’t ) and for a better rider it could well be a perfect adventure bike.

Day 4 we all woke up a bit dusty and headed off to Dargo Dans workshop. I fitted some MX tyres to the big Beemer as rain was predicted and TB already needed a new rear tyre after trashing his in a bit over 1000 km.
We left Dargo and headed up the mountain again carrying a really good pace and made our way to Swifts Creek , after some good dirt to Ensey we got to my highlight track of this ride. We navigated by map and made our way to Buccan , it was tight twin trail with up hills equal in steepness only to Bellingen . The BMW with new rubber managed to keep my chosen lines as we balanced our way up rutted tracks in what seemed like a mountain roller coaster. For almost 3 hours we climbed and climbed then came the descents, some with 10+ ruts and no defined line but we all emerged the other ended whooping and upright. !!
After a beer at Buccan we made good time along dirt roads to Jindabyne where DJ put us onto an awesome camp spot right on the lake. We only just made camp before dark and with a fire burning and beers flowing we talked about the perfect adventure riding day we’d just had.
Day 3 started with clear skies and we all packed up camp and headed to Corryong . After a quick bacon & egg roll we hit the dirt and started our run to Mount Pinnabar , the roads were great fun and the scenery very spectacular. Tb and DJ lead , I was dropping corner men and the ride was flowing nicely.

As with all good adventure rides it’s not too long before you hit a challenge and ours came in the shape of Mount Pinnabar !!! We rounded a corner and TB shouted to wait at the bottom and hold the group as the hill in front was steep and covered in loose apple size rocks !! TB made the second erosion mound and started to loose traction and momentum but safes a fall by turning into the bush. DJ made it about 10 meters past TB and also went bush to save a drop. Boulder and I walked up the hill to help TB and DJ bulldog the bikes down to a safe place for them to ride. Once walking the hill it became clear I would struggle getting the BMW up their with road tyres and Lance would have a big challenge with the Tiger. After a discussion and some remapping we decided bike preservation was a priority this far in and we started back down the hill.

We rode more great trails and I had fun on some twisty tar to our next fuel stop. The decision was made then to head to Omeo which we did on some trails which climbed a huge mountain and gave us a break boiling downhill at the end. Lance came past me on the Tiger and it seemed to handle being jumped off erosion mounds very well , whereas my poor Beemer was finding the bump stop on every landing !!!
Once at Omeo Lance broke the news that he had to leave for Sydney due to family illness and Steve needed to get back too , Andy and Glen went with them so it was down to 5 old bulls!!
Boulder and DJ
We headed up to Hotham Heights and took a mountain track with huge drops down into Dargo where we hired a house for the night and hit the pub.
Dargo Dan remembered us from last year and was keen to help us get the bikes fixed up for the second half of the tripWe ended up having a big night at the pub knowing we didn’t have an early start and saw Australia day though to the very end :woohoo:
Day 2 started bright and early with everyone on their bikes by 7.30 , we rode out of Gunning and were soon into the gravel roads, Lance from Trailzone asked us to stop if their were any good photo opportunities so with TB leading , myself navigating and DJ watching our backs we headed south.
It wasn’t long before we left the graded gravel roads and got into some twin tracks that lead us up into Kosiosko national park , that’s where things got exciting as the track got a bit rougher and wound up and up with some fast flowing forest sections !Lance was riding the Triumph Tiger 800 and can really get the big bike moving, he snuck up on us in one section and DJ let TB and I know over the Bluetooth that he was their , we both turned up the heat and sped through a nice winding forest section. It was great fun with the Tenere up front , then the BMW , the Triumph and DJ sticking with us on his DR650.
Once on the plain we stopped for some pics then headed into the Cabramurra for fuel.

We then rode into Khancoban for a pub stop and beer , with a chat to a local who sent us straight back into the bush we headed up a steep hill out of town. The hill went on for ever and got steeper and steeper. The Beemer was struggling for traction with the tyres being more road orientated but was good fun powering over the erosion mounds.
A mid hill stop showed some very conceded faces but we were committed and kept going. Suddenly TB stopped and said ‘ we’re going down now stay back ‘ and he wasn’t kidding , it’s was as steep and slippery as the up hill and if the big bikes get away theirs no stopping them. Their were a couple of drops but we all made it safely and their were some big high 5s at the bottom
The camp spot was awesome right on the river where we all washed and swam before the beers flowed and the bench racing started !!!
1st and foremost , Lefty , Jason Barrett and Adv Moto Steve … Your all legends.
Thanks for the pick ups , the loan bike :woohoo: and the investigative repairwork.
The day started with 50 km of fun roads out to Bilpin where I pulled in the clutch and a load squealing noise suddenly started . No matter what gear I was in , even neutral , the noise was very worrying.
We pulled off the side casing and found 3 small pieces of nylon/ plastic in and around the clutch plates with one in particular in the gear teeth of the release shaft. We thought maybe a bush had failed and spred itself around but on-one knew where from. Now it’s the end for the Ten on this ride.
Enter Jason who with 20 minutes had the bike loaded and on it’s way back to his workshop. He dropped everything to help out and was straight in helping get Steves BMW GS800 ready to ride. A hour later and we were of and I was stoked that the bike was soon to be in lefty’s very capable hands !
TB and I talked at length as to what the problem could be and oil was mentioned. I gave the bike an oil change and replaced the old oil with 2.8l of Motul 5100 as usual and the dip stick showed about 2mm over full. I bought a new funnel as it’s a bugger to fill and the funnel had an oil filter screen in it.
We knew lefty would be right onto it and tried not to think of the worst case scenarios !!Steves BMW has a stack of power and took a while to tame with plenty of sideways action out of corners :woohoo: before long I was really enjoying the Beemer and found it actually land well of some big erosion mounds too !!!
My bike failure stuffed the planned route and TB made the best of it and we had a ball on the mix of trails we rode, then 538km later found ourselves sitting in Gunning pub after meeting Lance from Trailzone and talking about the coming days !!!!
Bring it on !!!
Nick
Cheers Lefty , I always enjoy reading your reports and pics on bike mechanics . I seem to always learn something
( often ‘ leave it to pros like you ‘ !!

Nick
