If you get a bike let us know and we’ll try and hook up on an Adv ride.
The DR could also get you round some singletrack too , granted not as fast as those on an enduro bikes but it could serve both purposes well.

Melbourne is known for it’s changeable weather so be prepared for the lot !! Their is some great trail riding down their and if you get a chance to get up in the High country you will have a heap of fun on 2 wheels.this country is huge so if your going traveling on the bike plan ahead for fuel , places to stay etc as it came catch you out if you don’t. We spend a lot of time planning adventure rides and don’t always assume that because it says fuel on the map there will be , it pays to ring ahead and check v
Have fun however you do you traveling and let us know what you decide !!
Nick
Thanks for the intro and welcome to OBT
their are a heap of us living on the mid / north coast that ride regulary either on the trails or some adventure riding.
Keep an eye on the ride gatherings section theirs always something going on !!I have run a couple of north coast Adv rides this year that went around Grafton / Kempsey / Tenterfeild / border ranges etc. so we might be able to compare notes for future rides

I find they are the best gripping tyre I’ve used when new but once worn a bit the grip drops right off.
I unfortunately tried the mx71 thinking maybe the grip will be the same and they will last longer being the hard terrain tyre. No grip at all, especially if wet. It’s that bad I have a new mx71 in the shed and I will never put it on. Anybody’s for a carton of beer or even half a carton.
How about a hot VB twist top ?
I have a mate up here who tried the Hard tyre and said the same !
The grip of these tyres after some use must vary a lot with terrain I found last year in Coffs I did a ride with STM before the main ride and had a very well used tyre and it was fine in the very wet loam we were riding ?
I just watched the ADB DVD of Finke 2010 and they are some tough hours on a bike with average speeds of between 120 and 136 km/h for the top runners!!
I used nothing but Geomax until this year and I really rate them too , I used to get about 10 70-90km rides out of them and they would grip down to the very end !
Thanks for the info on the Garmin Montana Dave , I’ll check them out for sure
1 gps to do the lot would be great !!
Are you going on The Haunted Stream trail to get to Dargo ?? We did it in April and it was a real High country Highlight , I counted 54 creek crossings in about 40 minutes of riding !!!!

Hi Dave and welcome to Old Bulls, their seems to be a heap of options around the High Country for loaded bikes and now TB is looking into it I’m sure you’ll have some good suggestions coming your way soon !!
Thanks for the offer of help with GPSs too I’ve only been using one for 18 months and still don’t feel I completely know it. I have a Garmin CSX60 which I use with Shonky on Mac via Basecamp and a Go Cruise road GPS both mounted to my Tenere.
The Go Cruise has saved us a lot of times but as a cheap unit comes unreliability , I’m in the market for a new road GPS , any suggestions ?
The Zumo seems popular and I’ve tried the Strike ( 3 units all faulty !)
So any advice on a tough unit with decent software would be goodPost up some pics of your bike too , it’s always good to see how riders set up their Teneres
Enjoy the site
