    Hi Jim and welcome
, I too am from Northern NSW and also ride a Drz, you will get a heap of info from the guys on this site, their is a lot of experiance here and it’s helped me turn my Drz into something I never dreamed it could be.
Check out the Camerons Corner Thead for an up coming adventure ride ,It makes interesting reading to get set up for that type of riding, I managed to snag the last spot on this ride but their are rides coming along all the time.

    Cheers

The GPS looks the business ;) and I’ve never seen a steering damper under the bottom triple clamp, thats the business. I thought it was an under bar damper ,Is it easy to adjust?

The air mattress I am taking on this ride arrived today and I am more than happy,

it compresses down to 63mm across and 300mm long and weighs 550g, it has 4 chambers to stop cold from the ground rising and your body heat dissipating.

    Neat bit of gear ;)

A guy I ride with , who is in the top 3 fastest riders i know, has a 06 wrf 450 and is about to click over to 10k. He rides very hard and on demanding terrain. He is strict with oil changes and air filter cleanliness but other than that just rides.
He had his valves checked at 9 k and no adjustment was needed. The mechanic gave the bike a full inspection and said it was in A1 condition.
He was thinking about upgrading but after the inspection is very happy and keeping the Yammie. ;)

Well STM and I went for our ride today to try out Tekniks handy work, we rode a mix of sand, hard pack, rocks n roots and some loamy single track.

From the beginning I felt very comfortable with the new set up and we kept a good pace, as confidence increased I started to notice the front packing on hard packed fast cornering.

We stopped and discussed how to fix the problem and with 2 clicks softer on the rebound the next section was perfect.

I started to notice that the faster I went into the corners I was being sling shot out of the exit point , before the suspension was upgraded the rear wheel would lose contact with the ground when cornering but now the wheel stays planted and therefore I have maximum traction the whole corner therefore much more speed :woohoo: :woohoo:

To top it all I got a follow up call from Brad to see if I’d stopped smiling yet after the test ride and he confirmed that the rebound adjustment we made was correct and is happy to give future advice whenever needed. This is the type of after sales service that is very rare and will mean I’m a return customer for sure. :)

All in all this is by far the best money I have spent on the DRZ and I am well happy!!

STM and I are going to test ride the new suspension tomorrow afternoon, I think I have worked out a good 1 hour loop that will put all of Tekniks work through it’s paces and have us home for dinner :)
    I know good things are ahead :) ;) :)

    One word “Cost”

    TB

Let’s keep that word out of this thread incase significant others are watching
My suspension work cost me $175 B)

    STM

Yeah. I know what you mean STM. I got two bikes done for just a little bit more :S

Did you guys have to pay B) ;)

When I lived in the uk I rode to work every day regardless of weather for years and the only bikes with heated grips were the big BMWs. This was 1987 though and if I’ve got any spare cash left before the ride i might just treat myself. :)

Do you think grip heaters would be useful on this ride ?

Well I think STM summed up the day perfectly ;)

I now have a completely different bike thanks to Nick and Brad, I had no idea the Drz could end up feeling so good to ride, I was putting up with front end washouts and a bike that was unpredictable on jump landings.
After riding Mooses flat track the first thing I noticed was how hard you could drop into the corner and the bike would keep it’s line. The rear end surprised me most I think because I knew the front could be improved but didn’t realize what I had been putting up with at the back, now it’s very stable and tracks perfectly.

Next Brad wanted us to go over some jumps and this is where normally the Drz would bottom out become hard to control on landing , I was cautious on the first jump but noticed an instant improvement , the landing was smooth and controlled.

Although it was only a short test ride I was ear to ear grinning and can’t wait to try it on my local loops to really see the differance. I will post an updated report as soon as this happens.
