Copper is the ONLY go Axel , I was talking more about keeping good distances from cables and other pipes that may be PVC in the roof. I saw a tube type solar system in Yamba get so hot it’s copper flow and return pipes to the collector melted an adjacent PVC pipe flooding the whole house while the owners were on holiday. They estimated that the pipes got to over 200c as no water was being used and no cold mixing in the system. Sounds like a pressure relief fault helped the problem too.
I’m sure your onto it axel but if you do have an issue and its your system I’m not sure how you’ll go with insurance claims !!Nick
axel wrote:I’ve got a 400L electric power sucking machine like the dead one Mick has and was thinking about hooking it up to some solar tubes on the roof (+ thermostats, 10w pump, non return valve etc). Anyone done this before? Might be the go for summer at worst.If you bought a controller with sensors etc it could be done but you need to be careful of expansion when the water heats up. Some of the tube type solar got water systems can heat the water in your pipe work to well above boiling and I have seen some systems melt through plastic pipe work and cables in the roof. Their are specific pressure release valves used to stop this so unless you have a lot of experiance it could end up being bloody dangerous.

Cheers guys,
Bit of a mission this tech stuff for an old sausage fingers like me, bearing in mind that I saw the arrival of colour tv and mobile phones.
Even with this new card I started getting SD error :S
It seems it doesn’t like to be formatted by my laptop, works best by formatting using the camera itself.
Just sat on the bike and gave it a trial run on the above settings…awesome! Money well spent despite the complications.
I like the forehead mount/cut out peak on my helmet, looks to work well.
Glad you are getting it sorted out mate. It is a steep learning curve but you will get it all dialled in and get some great footage. Another tip is to only format the card in the device you will use it in. When you have transferred the files to your hard drive leave the files on the card and format in your GoPro. If you use it in another device then format it before you capture a file on it. That will keep it running smooth.

Seriously STM its time to buy a Star Trek t shirt , thick rimmed glasses and carry a breifcase ( I would have said centre parted hair but I know that’s not possible
)
Always good advice though mate

After chatting with Mike today I’m gutted I can’t make this ride , it sounds like he’s got an awesome loop planned with some challenges for the Coffs lad
Have a ball guys , can’t wait for the ride report and pics
Nick
Mick , if your roof faces north a roof mount is the way to go , I have a family of 4 and north facing roof and I would only boost with mains power for about 3 hours to get a tank full 10-15 times a year max.
The split solar systems have a lot of components , )pumps , sensors , hot logic ) which all wear out.
A gas system is an almost zero waste system but gas prices will increase , solar is always free.
If your in a hail prone area check out some of the curved panels or tubes as they will deflect the hail.Keep it simple mate ( and don’t let Toes in your house while your out
)

My daughter just walked into the living room and said “Dad, cancel my allowance immediately, rent my room out, throw all my clothes out of the window, take my TV, and stereo, and iPhone, and iPod, and my laptop.
Please take all of my jewellery to the Salvation Army or Cash Converters.
Then sell my new car, take my front door key away from me and throw me out of the house.
Then disown me and never talk to me again.
And don’t forget to write me out of your will and leave my share to my brother.Well, she didn’t put it quite like that… She actually said…
“Dad, this is my new boyfriend, Mohammed.”
theirs no doubt about it the back of Noosa is a top place to ride, Mike and the lads up that way are great fun and its not all grovelling on hills it tests your fitness too with never ending climbs and descents and Mike just keeps riding hard all day in 30 plus degrees
If you can get up that way Corbs you’ll have a memorable ride mate!!!
