Don’t right off the starter relay until you have made sure their is no wiring short causing it to latch. This should be as simple as disconnecting the switch wires going to the relay and reconnecting the battery. At least that will eliminate the switch circuit.

The button sends a voltage signal (small wire) to a soleniod or relay (depends on who you sepak to) the soleniod has the main power direct from the battery (big wire) to the starter. My money would be on a faulty relay / soleniod if your testing of the switch is correct ;) Or the starter soleniod stuck in

    StarterRelay-1.jpg

    Simple terms

The power from the battery to the starter doesnt go through your button because the size of the button and the wires back and forth would be huge.

Just a thought the starter could be stuck in, didnt you have it apart recently

I can’t see why the starter relay would suddenly latch just because the key was on ?? Surely the button would need to be at fault too for this to happen ?

How many wires are coming out of the starter Jeffro ?

Sounds like a strange one mate , only having the key on shouldn’t have engaged a starter solenoid ( if it has one ?) as that’s what the buttons for , if the button is open circuit like you tested.
Have you checked terminals and push connectors to make sure that nothing has melted and shorted out due to bad connection and being on all night ?

So are you putting on another 606?

I used a 606 last ride and I think I’d be lucky to 4000 klms out if it. I’m a bit concerned about a 606 making the distance.

As for the name, I’m sure one will become apparent on the trip. Puffin Billy might be an option

    Kram B)

Yeah mate , going a 606 again with a second on the back , I know the tyre well and am very confident with it. Also they a fairly cheap considering the trip we are doing ;)

Bring it on Puffing Billy !!! :D

Nick and I are carrying a rear tyre to Normaton to fit figuring that the two days hard off road running (1572kms) to Normaton will fairly eat up a rear tyre. We may carry it further to Musgrave or Bramwell stations depending. If we get any wet weather then we have fresher rubber to wrestle the big bitches in the mud with :P

    TB

So are you starting out with a fresh rear as well?

My rear has done no more than 500km but it’s a 606 , great tyre for traction in a tight spot but only has good grip for 2500km and wears quick after that. I know some guys can get 10,000 km out of them but I’ve used 4 now and never got more than 4000 until they’re rooted. Must be the power of the Ten !!!! Not :P

Therefore to make the most of this trip I’m going to take a second tyre ;)

Sound like the mighty DR will be ready to roll mate !!! What you calling this one ???
