Thats it! I just threw up a bit in my mouth and my eye is starting to twitch just thinking about it.
Behind Lyndurst, south of Blaney CW NSW we go riding in the pine forests and there is only a little hill known as “Hectars”.
Its a bastard because there are a couple of ledges with a snotty surface. worse though is that you don’t get much of a run up because behind you is a creek so you have to goose it from the get-go. Walked the WR up a few times now.
I know I can get up there but it owns my mojo.
Thanks Fellas,
Nickj, I wanted two bikes to cover all my current bases. WR for the dirt and playing around my property and the XR for the road/ADV type riding. I don’t need a road bike as it wouldn’t go where it needs too
. Besides I have NEVER ridden a road bike.
Country looks good because of all the rain (rain, rain go away….) Getting in the way of harvest. Lucky I don’t farm any more. All my neighbours have been pretty ill affected by it
If you have a keen eye, in the photo of the 3 Yamahas you can see two Canola paddocks in the background. These are now rotting on the ground.
Kasuyaho, I have been following yours posts on ADV with interest. And your duals
As for future mods I’m not sure. For my needs it has plenty of get up and go so the standard pipe I’m happy with. Jetting may be next. Problem is I live at 400m but do alot of riding around here and up around Orange which is 8-900m so getting a jet combo to fit this may be tricky.Probably change the rear tyre to a 606 or try a Mefo. Get some 20-25mm bar risers (any suggestions?) Add some better lighting and a 12V outlet. Matbe some type of screen too.
To be honest I have been looking at getting rid of it and getting an ADV style twin eg Transalp or Veestrom, but I can’t see that happening for a while.
For me no other bike brings a smile to my face like the BRP and i know as soon as I get rid of it I’ll regret it. If only it had a button (yes, I know I’m soft!)
Good trip. I went up to Sofala and Hill End a couple of weeks ago with some Canowindra riders and had lunch at the pub. We were going to head back via the Bridle but the water crossings were uncertain or maybe the other track (name I can’t remember) that goes across the Macquarie and comes out near Orange. Crossings spooked us here as well.
I’ve heard that you can use a KTM one. A bit more suited than a computer one.
BTW have you got a pic of your light setup?
Can you rego a CR500?

I will ring you in a couple of years once I have payed off the Mrs credit card I am about to cut up. No seriously enjoy it but be nice! I just like to keep coming back to this thread so I can look at that Fat Black Oval Exhaust! mmmm On your home front I went down your way a year ago and stayed at Turners Vineyard at Orange to watch the big race, Westrac’s shout. While on the shuttle bus I saw some fine looking hills to ride. Very nice. Look forward to the pics of the WR. Aaron.
Yeah, no worries. I’ll even throw in a tank of fuel……….not!
Are you with Westrac? I have a good mate at Cadia with them.

Quote:That is one sweet looking XR. How many K’s has it got on it it looks like brand new. There is hardly any scuffing on the clutch cover. Thanks Mate. bought it a couple of years ago from a young fella in Canberra. I saw an ad and headed over at sparrow the next morning. i rang him to hold it for me as it was original with only 6,000 ks on it. it’s a 2000 model. It was spotless.
He said it was too much too handle and wanted to get rid of it before it got rid of him. I had a XR600 so I kinda knew what to expect power wise but I was waaaay out. I took it for a test ride and nearly layed it down at the first roundabout. Parted with some coin and bought it home on my tow hitch carrier.
Gave it the once over as you do. No wonder it was a deadly weapon. He had 45psi in the rear tyre!!!!! I dropped it to 25 and it was a different beast. his loss, my gain. I have done nothing power wise because for me and my riding it has plenty of horses. I’ts setup for more dual sport touring and ADV stuff.
however I still have all the original goodies in the workshop just in case I get the urge again
When I got her
Now
OK I know she ain’t purdy but she suits me ATM. Yes, I know the rear tyre looks poxy but $$ dictate that it wears out before another goes on.
I’ll take some of the WR when I get a chance and post more in the My Garage section.
Thanks for the welcome. I’ll post some pics when I get the other ‘puter back from the Doc with my piccies on it. Virus issues
