No. Can you PM it to me please.
G’day Justin. I can get out every now and again. I was going to ride this arvo actually (Friday).
Have you still got my mobile no.? I will PM it to you.
Old MateG’day. Well said Lyn Braico! And well done to Mick Prott and Ralph Clissold. I watched the Saturday seniors race- sensational! What a track- very fast, basically a massive grass track. How quick is Merriman on a 250F!!!
Did you notice how well the dirt holds together up there Mick? Lots of rich black soil but not sticky when wet like Moree way. Very little damage done to the track.
I wonder if some small bridges would avoid the issues with creek crossings. Most of the creeks are shallow and are only about 2m wide max. I have seen brick pallet bridges work successfully (although not that one out near Bago Vineyard….) or does that open up legal issues…….
I will write to the council as the place has untold potential.
Old MateG’day. True- maybe none/some/all unregistered blokes will not bother with rec rego. But as I said my mates on Mx’s would be up for it.
It would be nice to know that if you were unfortunate enough to have a head-on/crash with an formerly unregistered rider at least they would now be insured.
As for the issue of riding on the road- full rego will still be available.
Rec rego is not for everyone but at least I believe it is a step in the right direction.
I also have to agree that sometimes an enduro bike is an advantage- especially if it is a whole day or multi day ride. However I tend to do shorter singletrack blasts of 3-4 hours these days in which I would rather a mx style bike. Their suspension these days isnt always rock hard (alot of tuning possible with clickers) and they are not noisy (road with a 2010 CRF450 the other day and it was one of the quietest bikes of the group).
Regards
Old MateG’day. The new revenue stream would come from currently unregistered riders comming on board to the scheme. There would not be any new taxes to currently regoed riders. As for the cost- what is it in Victoria? I cannot imagine it would be too different. If it was $300 it would not be an incentive for unregoed blokes so there would be no gain.
From my understnding you can ride on tar roads- just not ‘main’ or major roads. (I could stand correced on this one). Maybe a problem on some rides I suppose- not really an issue with the majority of rides though.
If the manufacturers pass on too greater cost of ADRing registered enduro bikes then people will vote with their feet. If Yamaha went to the trouble of ADRing the YZ250WR- a very small volume bike at a low cost- then popular bikes like wr’s, crfx’s, exc’s etc wont go up much- if any.
Apparantly State Forests and National Parks support this scheme as well (so I am told).
Personally I think MX bikes are far superior to enduro bikes (unless mainroading down Knodingbul etc). I sometimes ride a mates CRF450 in the bush- it is an absolute weapon, as is another mates RMZ250. (Both of which would pay for rec rego if it was available). My 08 ktm300 is ready to be rolled over in the next 6 months. If the bill is passed then it opens up a big range of potential bikes for my next one. KTM250sx, YZ450f, 350Sx……….
I will sign the petition.
My 2cents worth.
Old MateG’day Mick. I was out Saturday to pre-ride the horse endurance track for a mate (you would have seen the arrows)and had a mad lap from Herrons Creek-Bago etc beforehand. Did the same thing in that creek. Probably should avoid that track or make a bridge. It is right on the Vineyard boundary and it is going to become a big mess (which would be a shame as the rest of the track is fun!). I love singletrack and have made my fair share but that new one that runs past the swimming hole is not going to make many friends with the authorities…
Hope I dont sound like too much of a killjoy.
Hope the leg gets better.
I did try calling you Saturday as well Dean.
Old MateG’day. I will take a spot. But if someone from elsewhere is really busting to join in I can pull out.
Old MateG’day. A few blokes at the Long Flat Rally were complaining about the loose gravel just east of Gingers. Pretty much the same spot old mate had his accident. It would have been cleaned up by now. The bottom of the mountain has been pretty how ya goin for a while now with big patches of substandard repair. Most of the damage happened early last year after all the rain.
As for a Cells ride. I am a regular rider up there and have lead many rides so I dont mind leading sometime. Prefferably winter after rain.
Got a nice 140km loop of the Cells/Elands/Dingo Tops/Gingers finest at a starting point about 30min west of Wauchope! Great day ride but difficult if not bike fit/slowish.
Old MateG’day. Mind if I join the ride? Ride all that area regularly but usual riding crew are unavailable.
Old Mate.G’day. You must have left before I got there. Didnt see any XRs. I rode out on my modified 74 Suzuki Waterbottle. It too had a crowd around it with not many knowing what it was. I bumped into Matts- one of the Swiss blokes. He is actually a bike mechanic by trade and told him Rod at Mud n Tar could do with some help.
Had a great time rounding up the Harleys on the way out and back. 750cc of ported, expansion chambered two stroke triple will do that!
Old Mate.Very little main road my old way- far less than the Colling Rd. way. But who knows what it is like now???
Old MateGazetted roads can still be used even though they go through private property. We used to give the farmer a yell if we went near their place, otherwise ride quick.
What about through Killabakh? It used to be a good track and bring you out through some sort of organic farm on the wrong side of a 6 foot fence (which you could get around- just…) near Bobin. You then did a short road ride then up near TK’s (of Sidetrack fame) place into the bush- come out just south of Dingo Tops.
Old MateHey Rat. Remember the days of carting a 20 litre drum of fuel on the tank, stashing it in the bush and spending all day with a topo and a highlighter up at The Cells? Russell, the old owner of Gingers wouldnt fix the fuel pump so there was no fuel there (unless you rang him earlier and he brought some up on the grog run). Elands was full of hippies. You never knew if the tracks were booby trapped as it was rumoured dope was being grown up there… That sensation of putting together the ultimate loop that you discovered yourself. What happened to the sense of adventure?
I havent done a Wauchope to Gingers ride for about 6-7 years but we used to be able to avoid most of the main road to Elands from Comboyne.
Wauchope to the pub at Coopernook is a great ride if you know the good tracks. Shame they have logged so much of Middle Brother, Bago and Coopernook State Forests!
Olod MateMight see ya out there. Hopefully not head-on!!!
