Hey TB , do we have a solid max klm distance for the special between refuels , I am tossing up my options for fuel needs , thinking of leaving the rear tanks off and using my lightweight Adv setup . Max k’s from that setup is about 300 though . Will that be enough ?

:woohoo: Rode with Squiggle SNR and Jnr around their ( very dusty ) home turf , we were back for a drink before 1 pm as it was quite hot . Beer and feed were both great , company even better .

Thanks Shane and Nathan for a great day out on the bikes . ;)

I am up for a ride Shane .WR is looking slim and willing ………………… I am the opposite  .

I was thinking about going for a ride around Awaba , there was some really nice singles through there 12 months or so ago , have not been through there for a while though .

I am happy to ride anywhere within an hours drive from home .

Bed in Jindy is yours Pete , That rack looks good .

I’ll ride with you , won’t matter about your speed I am sure it will build over the 3 days , I am an old relatively unfit Bastard so I need to stop often to recover anyway , especially after anything technical or really rough and as TB will tell everyone at the rider briefing , it’s not a race .

But I do like to be the first in the bar at the end of the day ;-) .

Keep us updated with the bike build .
    Cheers
    Alan

    Hi all

First post around here but i am hoping that all going to plan i should be on this ride.

Been out of action since I busted my ACL and had knee surgery a while back.

Been working like crazy on my physio/cycling to build my strength back up and have just been to see the surgeon and he has given me the go ahead to ride, from the 6 month since surgery mark which lines up almost to the day with this ride :D

Sold all my bikes just prior to the surgery but have just picked up a new to me 2012 KTM 500exc which I am in the process of setting up as a lightweight ADV bike.

Looking forward to seeing the high country again. Been down there lots on road bikes but only once on a dirt bike which happens to be the ride that Alan posted up the link for earlier in the thread.

Look forward to seeing you all there

It will be good to catch up with you Pete , I’ll ride with you if you like , I know you and I can find a comfortable pace for us , be good to see what you have done to the 500 to Advize it too .
You gunna camp or pub it ? I’ll have a spare bed at Jindabyne in my room if you want it ( Thursday night ).

    Cheers

I’d be in like flynn , but alas , the whip is crackin’ and I gotta earn a quid on Sunday , gotta take the double time while it still exists , Some politician soon will pull that rug out from under our feet , I am sure of that .

    Have fun Guys .

Get onto some of the fishing forums Eags , tell them your dreams and maybe some one up there can get you a seat in a boat with a local guide and all .

You could always freight your bike and gear up there a week or two before you fly and pick it up when you arrive , and then freight it back when it’s time to come home . Might be a bit exy though .

Myself , I’d book a charter for some Harvey bay pelagic action or a bottom bounce off shore depending on what’s being caught at the time . I have no experience of any of the operators up there though , so can offer no advice about them .

A teaser for those who are interested in the High country riding .

A ride report from my last High Country ride 5 years ago.

    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=454411

Just a few words of encouragement to anyone who is not too sure of his or her ability to tackle this High Country ADV ride with RideAdv , In the above ride report , the guy on the red KLR , Craig , had only ridden a bike half a dozen or so times previous to doing that ride with us , he was a flatmate of Dan’s that showed some interest in what we were doing , so , Dan sold him his KLR when Dan bought the 640 ADV , we took Craig out into the Watagans two weeks prior to the High Country ride and I trialled him on some tracks that some men have trouble doing on Enduro bikes , he came through that , but had a close encounter with a Peugeot on Mount View rd on the run back into the Watagans from our lunch stop and had to straighten himself and the bike out , he still completed the ride that day . two weeks later he did the High Country as in the report linked above and without front brakes for most of it . So , you see that with a bit of nous and some bravado you can most likely do it .

    020.jpg

What is Craig up to now you ask ????

Last I heard he was living the life of an adventure riding nomad , based in London doing jaunts all over Europe when funds allow on an F 800 GS , just goes to show you don’t need anything more than desire and opportunity to change your world .

    Cheers

I’ll be driving down from Newy in my ute with my WR on the back Jeffro , I can pick up you and the bike and we can share the fuel costs , that’ll give me a bit more money for beer  .

I am in the Warners bay area where would you be wanting to be picked up from ?

    Cheers
