Got the parts I ordered today.
Small problem though. I ordered a new headlight but it didn’t come with the straps to attach it to the bike which means there is no where to put the indicators either. Don’t have the original ….yes important lesson keep the broken bits UNTIL you have the new parts.
Oh and TB I had to take the tank off again  the wiring plugs for speedo were under it. Used your trick and got it back on by myself though
No I’m not zip tying the headlight on either , don’t even suggest it!
There must be some sort of generic headlight bracket thingy????
TB’s legend status remains intact . The hero’s reply to a damsel in distress got the fuel tank on in about 5min flat. Even with his poor leg in that brace too !
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a shot of how he did it.But it involved a large philips head and a flat head screwdriver. One to find the bolt hole and the other for leverage against a random bit of bike to push the tank forward enough to get the screw in. Excellent little trick.
Now its just a matter of putting all the plastics back on and waiting for the rest of the parts.
Here are the rest of the pics I’ve taken
as you can see it needed to come forward a touch
These were the rubber bits that the tank rolled on. TB pointed out that you must need a bit of force to get the tank on bc the rubber is distorted
It slides on here
So TB put a large philps head in the hole on the tank (red arrow) and through the hole on the frame to line it up. Then used a flat head as a lever (blue arrown) to push it into line. Then he removed the philips head and whacked in the bolt.
This is the thing that held the air box hose onto the carby (it was a bit loose) it came pre mushed up and what a super job those chinese did of putting my bike together. I wish I knew how to swear in mandarin bc it was a bugger to get off.
Old soleniod on right new one on left . Wrong plug ends though on new one
Easy fixed Love that shrink tube stuff…
Ok last one. Picked this up from ThinkGeek.com stops me from loosing my screws or sockets. Strong enough to hold a spanner as well
ok I’ve tried
taking the fuel cap off – nope didn’t work
using tie down straps- brillant idea in theory….I must be doing something wrong
pulling it open a bit- not a hope in hell the plastic is super rigid
Asking my mower man to use his young muscles to put the thing on- no dice….fun to watch though
Asking someone who lives up the road to help– no dice he just laughed and said ‘I told you not to buy it’… Bastard…I gave it my best guys , but I’ll admit some things a girl needs a man for (yes that hurt to say
)
I am offically calling for actual physical help now .
I got a call from the parts supplier and $269 later ( I know its probably too much to spend on it) and the new parts should be here next week. I have to sell it for at least $500 now, I’ve spent too much fixing the damn thing.
Would probably make a good scrappa actually.
So Old Bulls…help!
Thanks for those tips guys.
Gave it a bit of a try this morning, was a bit of a polava being in a dress and heels trying not to get petrol on myself while pushing on the tank ….high heels are not the best for balancing :laugh:probably not an issue you guys have ever had to deal with …..or maybe you have
Thanks for the offer TB, but I have a kids school presentation to go to at lunch today so wont be home.
I’ll try the trick with the tie down straps this afternoon and see how I go.
ITS ALIVE!!!!
Got it started this morning. Someone came around last week and with a bit of speaker wire connected to the battery informed me that the starter was fine but there was a blown fuse near the solenoid (changed it) and the solenoid was a crappy.
So quick trip to gasman this morning pick up another solenoid for $40. I had to rewire it bc the plugs didn’t fit, but once it was in (and I’d connected the fuel back up  ) she started.
Now my only problem is I can’t get the fuel tank back on!!!!! I’ve emptied it out…..do NOT light a match in my back yard, or anywhere near me for a while cause tipping it back into the jerry was rather messy.
I’m thinking it might be a case of my little girly muscles not being stong enought to shove the tank forward that last 10mm so I can get the bolt in.
I’ll put some pics up later tonight to show you all what my problem is.
Wow I always love checking out your rides Murph. Such great photo’s and vid, I always end up thinking I soooo want to learn how to do THAT!
Keep the great ride reports comming :cheer:
Actually funny you should mention that. I definately want to sell it asap I have a ‘motorbike fund’ that my Minister for Finance (aka my husband) set up to save for a better bike. How much do you think I’ll need? I’d did want a Husky TE 310 (second hand most likely). But bc of the KTM buy out is it worth getting an old one, what is the buy out going to do the spare parts market?
ok good thinking TB. Some how I think I’m going to have a long shopping list once you guys are finished with my bike
.
Teknik wrote:I showed Adam the photos. It’s a Zong Shen engine, has pushrods…woohoo
Adam’s suggestion was that if it does not have spark it’s a 95% chance the stator has died as they are 100% rubbish. He probably has one in stock. $80-120 depending on the type.awesome! I’ll have to drop down tommorow and get one then. I’m guessing the starter is that little silver cylinder thingy that was near the green fuse. I’ll bring it in with me
oh and what are push rods???
😆
don’t stress guys I wont torch the bike.No rush TB. Have an awsome ride.
Showed Hubby those GPS’s and strongly hinted that I may need one soon…..along with a new bike
I am going to change the chain and tyres though. Road tyres I think.
Teknik wrote:That’s the ignition advance unit, it’s the same terminal sizes as an XR Honda. You need that bit.
If it was insured I’d suggest setting fire to the entire bike.
See how you go getting it running, TB and I are working for apple cider these days so if you have some in the fridge you may get invaded if it comes to that.
One of my friends works at Gasman Chinese quality bike shop (ha) in Penrith, he has been working on them for years and is pretty good, way better than I am on the Chinese bikes.Ooo it is insured actually. Do you know anyone that is willing to torch it 😆
Apple cider hey….the alcoholic type or non??? I buy that Rekorderlig apple cider by the carton so feel free to invade my place anytimeI’ve spoken to the guys at gasman (nice blokes) but they don’t usually work on anything that is road registerable and weren’t much help.
If necessary I can buy a whole new electrics kit for the bike.Got a call today from the parts supplier asking about my headlight so hopefully it will all come soon.
Today’s progress was a bit slow. Buying a new house (just moved in 2wks ago) and having 4 kids (darn things keep wanting to be fed) seriously gets in the way of my bike tinkeringThis is what an air filter from a Kinlon looks like.
So it seems the battery overflow has been recoloring my bike …opps
The offending battery. What is that thing in front of it??? was connected to wires before I pulled it off.
Was going to take the chain off then I realised I don’t have a bike jack.
I remember Mick and WR saying it could be a fuse or battery issue. I know where the battery is but where are the fuses???
Now I know that this thing is the filter….A paper filter mind you. I’ll take it out tomorrow and post some pics.
I’m never taking this out on the trails again but I might turn it into a road putter?? Have to get it started first.
I thought I better label all the wires as I cut off the broken bits. Love my Brother p-touch labler
