I highly recommend one of Rats Mx schools, especially if you live on the Mid North Coast,it is a great day. The hardest part for rat in my case was trying to get an old dog to learn new tricks but to Daves credit every time I ride now I do use some of the things I learned (especially the double pump of the front brake lever)
His School turned me from a crusty Ol gumby into a cross between Bob Hannah and jeremy Mcgrath  (well maybe not but dreams are free
Maybe somewhere in the future we could have a OB training day.

They are making to much money out of 4 strokes, well the japs are at least. I believe the Euro’s would be pushing for the 2 stroke resurgence but the Japs have conspired with the Governing bodies to continue with the 4ts. My opinion only
I think rotax have made a FI 660 cc 2 stroke for a snowmobile and it is a pearler, guess we will have to wait and see.

I reckon micks or Mals heads had more knobs on it than that POS tyre on the back of Dans bike

Gyday Roy,as it says in the How to bit,you can do it either way, personally I have always done it with the piston already attached to the conrod without any real issues before, trying to insert a circlip while holding up the barrel would be pretty fiddly, especially with my gumby fingers  (you have to know me to understand)
cheers Ollie

Quote:whats the best brand of piston ollie got a vertex in the ktm at the moment was just going to use the same next timeRocket I think Vertex has a very good reputation, I am going to use a wiseco on my next topend rebuild as Stefan from R&D Husky got one for me at a really good price. When I pull the engine down If the Vertex piston is Ok I will just replace the rings first then do the Piston kit later on.
BTW I found out that wiseco rings are 3mm and vertex are 2.7mm so they are not interchangeable.

KTMRAT should be able to help here mate he does all this type of stuff in his business

Cheaper smeeper or whatever Trevor M2R at Sutto’s great value under $200 and probably would have gone down that path if I hadnt already ordered the Fly racing Helmet. All helmets have to be made to conform to a standard. The one I have is made from Poly alloy composites and not el cheapo ABS. As long as it is safe, comfortable good air flow and light its all ticks in the box for me.
Boony you did the right thing by replacing your helmet after a decent knock.
Ollie
From an Italian helmet manufacturer “We are often asked ‘For how long is a helmet safe?’, or ‘how often should I replace my helmet? ‘ Until now it has been difficult to find any reliable figures to help answer these queries. MET have now developed a series of tests which are conducted on aged helmets to determine a ‘best before’ date (unless the helmet is involved in an accident. In that case it should be replaced immediately.). The results indicate that, if used properly accordingly to our owner manual, our helmets will still do their job up to eight years after they have been made. Not only is that good news for the customer, its great news for the environment!”
We applaud MET for undertaking an actual testing program on helmet life and for making that statement. We regard it as a triumph of integrity over marketing. MET’s helmets are made with industry standard shells and liners, so there is no reason we can see that their recommendation should not be good for many other helmet brands as well. If another manufacturer comes up with a testing program that shows earlier deterioration in the protection from their products we will review this page.
In sum, we don’t find the case for replacing a helmet that meets the ASTM or Snell standards that compelling if the helmet is still in good shape and fits you well.Ollie

2 year shelf life? WTF I bet a lot of people hang onto the helmets longer than that
