I think JD motorcycle wreckers in Toormina near Coffs Harbour is wrecking a couple of Kato’s give that a try. They are sometimes on ebay. The centre stand in my opinion is a pain in the arse, I may have a new side stand down stairs but will have to check.

Does it work Ollie, cause a couple of us tried in when went to Cape York in 2004 and I still got a flat, small pinch flat and you have had a run of flats as long as I have known you on both the bikes I have been on rides with you (RMX and GAS GAS so its not just a rim lock problem) I am interested as I see it all the time and didnt know anyone using it and would use in my rear when not running mousse compatible tyres

    TB

The flats I got on the RMX were without the slime (both fronts)
One HD tube and the spare normal duty.

The flats I got on the Gasser were both rear One was at Bulls when I was installing a new tyre and pinched it, fixed it with a patch. The second time was the rear again and the rimlock wore a hole in the tube, again no slime. I have since put slime front and rear and have not had any flats. It will be interesting to see my front tube as it has taken some big bone jarring hits(you know the type:ohmy: ) and has not gone flat yet. Time will tell I guess

I use lecky tape as well. I reckon 100mph tape would leave too much glue on the inside of the rim when removed.

I’ve used the tube-inside-the-tube as well, but not with ultra HD tubes…that sounds like way too much work!

I have also tried the tube inside a tube and to be honest it felt like the front wheel was totally out of balance, very unnerving. I now run Ultra HD tubes with that Green slime stuff and decent rimlocks (ie not the standard pieces of shit supplied by Michelin to GASGAS) so far so good.

Bruce, tyres can be a very personal thing and I have gotten into many a heated debate:laugh: I will only get name brand tyres from my supplier,if you want a Michelin I should be able to get it:dry: I myself prefer Metzeler MC5 cases. I can gaurantee the type of rear tyre but not the front as the retreading process removes any identification. They are guaranteed not to chunk knobs or spin the casing off. The northern chapter boys have really started to take a shine to them, and these guys ride a lot more bush K’s than me:( I can post two tyres for around $15 to most places a couple of dollars less to NSW.:) From my experience and the type of riding I do I can get at least 8 good rides out of one. They are based on a Motocross tread pattern and dont like extra long hardpack or dirt/tar roads (from feedback I have received) all I can suggest is Give one a try if you like it you will just started to save yourself some serious cash,if you dont well then its only cost you $75 any info you want just give me a hoy and I will try and help out otherwise just go to http://www.mxretreads.com.au

What is the best then

probably Gaffa Tape as it is thicker and wider than insulation tape. (IMHO)

Gaffa tape works best, but insulation tape works as well .you will need to do about 3 -4 wraps around to ensure the nipples are all sufficiently covered. Also make sure that the holes for the valve and rimlock have enough clearance;)

you could use a candle to laydown the soot but I dont think a heat gun would have enough grunt to get to the right temp. annealing with a LPG/Oxy is the same process as acetylene only will take a bit longer to heat to correct temp.

to be honest i couldnt care less if people dont like it. I build my cars to impress one person and thats me,
We do a few minitruck shows a year and there all for charity and we raise thousands of dollars each show and that makes me proud.
so thanks to the people that like it and if you dont like it who cares?? you dont have to drive it.

    ;)

Scotty, if thats your thing go for it mate, like I said I admire the effort and skill that is required to bring out a quality product, I wouldnt do it myself, but if my thats what my son wanted to do I would help in any way I could. Your first paragraph answered my question why;)
