Gyday Bert, without actualy seeing the said bolt, I would place it vertically in a vice, give it a squirt of Wd40 and let it sit for a while, then use an impact driver with the right sized phillips head. This should get it without any drama and you may even be able to reuse the bolt until you get a new one. A small amount of heat may also help, but be carefull as starter motors may have some plastic in them nowadays

This was worth adding thanks to Moto.

I remember Gilli used to carry a small piece of wiper blade about 3″ wide for the really wet rides, then polish off with some Dunny paper.
I have a mate that used to ride one, pretty quick bike in its time for what it was intended for. Kept up with a lot of the big bore two strokes in the singles and techniacl stuff. I think the sub frame may have had a few issues not sure been a long time. Keep an eye out on Ebay and also try to x reference part numbers on some US sites Drew.

I probably would buy a F#@^ing Honda if they still made 2 strokes  after seeing all the issues these blown up exspensive 4T’s are having no thanks.
The Showa’s are a common swap, the bomb would have been KYB CC forks off a late model YZ but they cost a bit more. I could have gotten away with rechroming but the Marzocchi’s have a black nitride coating on them as well so it woud have been both legs to be done. Apparently the Marzocchi’s shiver 45’s are a copy of a 92 model Showa (like I had on my 92 Husky 360) In all honesty the new showa’s should outperform the Marzocci;s in every aspect. The problem with the CRF brakes is it is only a 240mm disk Why? I will have to look at trying to get a 260 mm upgrade from somewhere especially since I need as much front end braking as I can get. (remember its only my little finger applying the force 😆 )I do have access to Machine shops but Im not at home often enough to utilise them,I would just prefer to get a professional mob to do it right the first time.
I think Bulls Wools bike is a XR400 ?
Ollie
There you go Moto sounds like you and Smurf need to hook up for a recon ride.
Ollie
Yes I am a SEAman not a SEMEN  (you idjit) and the forks are for the Gasgas
I got some corrosion on the bottom of one of my Marzocchi fork sliders and have been told the Showa option is the way to go. All I need now is someone who is handy on a Mill to bore out my triple clamps a poofteenth
anyone know anyone willing to have a go at mates rates
Ollie
You should pack a goggle cleaning rag,I put mine up my left sleeve for easy access. you can also grab those safety glass cleaner satchels from Bunnings (pro clean ) are good and safety specs if its a wet ride, which happens a lot if riding at Wauchoppy.
Ollie
Not today because im at sea, but Sunday I pulled off the entire front End in readyness to fit my new Showa CRF250X forks, wheel, and Brakes. One of the bolts securing my handle bar clamps was seized and I had to in the end use a die grinder to remove the head of the high tensile Bolt  wont use loctite on those puppies again.
I also fitted the EGO bark busters correctly on the XR
