Maybe I have a very understanding other-half that’s just “happy that I’m happy” …
Nah, you’re spot-on correct

Haha, I meant ‘all the gear and no idea’…..jokingly of course! I know that’s not the case from Mick’s ride report
You could be quite right with the 2t thing though, if you’re out in front and I can’t keep up (quite probable) I might just shed a tear over my 300…not that it would have helped me anyway, you can’t make up for lack of skill, I should know, that’s why I got a 570 to try and help me out
Just jokin’ this end too
And, I’m happy to swap bikes if we’re ever out on a ride and you feel a bit melancholy for some 2T fun
Hmm, don’t want to railroad Westy’s thread … but hopefully all this is helpful for him as well.
I was questioning whether being at the “extreme” of the needle meant something else was astray …. oh dear, need to revisit that.

Bob: they are “Scar” brand folding “unbreakable” ones … found them on eBay for my bike (Brembo clutch and brake) for 60 bucks the pair
Oooh so looking forward to this thread for Input (giving my experience so far) and Output (getting some tips).
Westy; hang in there with the 2Banger, that is one beautiful bike you have. Day 1 for me back on a two stroke (everyone knows the story) I thought “WTF have I done purchasing this thing! It’s a nasty biatch that’s gonna kill me!!”
But, after a couple of rides, a bit of an ‘adjustment’ to my riding style and the bike I’m totally loving it.
For Moto’s list for my Berg 300 I’m;
Gearing: standard (no idea what that is?)
Jetting:– JD Kit for Pilot, #162 Main Jet (the sea-level one), Red-tip needle clip position #5 (they recommended #4 but it didn’t “feel” right … I added the kit mainly for the fuel economy bonus but it does feel much better as a result too
Suspension settings and (your) weight, as well as sag numbers: I haven’t done sag yet but I put everything to “Standard” and it feels Ok for my weight of 72kg … the front still needs tuning though as compression feels harsh, need to do sag as well coz I’m a bit of a short ass and the bike feels a bit tall for me sometimes
Power valve spring and dolly screw adjustment: I put the Red one in, and wound the Dolly flush with the housing (read it on the net and tested it last week, loved it!)
Ignition setting – Traction or power? (this is the wire with the connector near your CDI): Is this the switch on the handlebars with I or II? I switch between the two … it is noticeable (slightly) when you do and is a bit tamer on II to give you a break from the power
Any other mods? (SX CDI, shaved head, modded squish band and/or angle, higher compression etc.):None for me yet … I want to get it handling right before I scare the sh*t out of myself (any more) with power modsTo reiterate … hang in there, “learn” to ride it and get the setup right for you.. I don’t reckon you’re gonna regret it at all in the end.

Yep, bright and early (and eager) with the Berg loaded in the Chinese ute that I thought was going to throw me through the roof a couple of times on the drive to the farm … I pull up around the side of the shed thinking “sh*t I hope this is the right place”, luckily KTM Bull came out with cereal bowl in-hand and a welcoming “good morning”. After a quick chat everyone else starts to arrive, I get instruction to the CornerMan system which I’d never done, I assemble my Camelback with the bladder fresh from the freezer one-third full of lovely cool ice (thanks Moto for the tip), I even needed instruction on how to assemble it  coz it was shiny and never used “make sure the tube is to the left”, anyway all sorted I put it on and give it the taste test … “is it supposed to taste like plastic” , wishing right then I’d poured my Monster Energy in there rather than skulling the whole can ten minutes earlier.
All geared up and we’re off. :woohoo:
Really beautiful country around there, with fun trails and some challenging stuff, Scott obviously knows the area like the back of his hand and takes us on a good mix of stuff. The dust was bearable mostly as the wind tended to take it but every now and then a dead-spot where it would just hang thick in the air. Most of the creeks were dry which was actually good coz at least that way you can see the rocks, some big suckers too that would take you down if you hit them submerged!
A stop for a rear tube change on Mick’s XR after he’d been doing speedway slides on the corners of the previous hill climb and realising he’d got a flat, no-one else was carrying a spare tube so just as well really. Between Mick and Dickie that tube was out and the spare in, pumped up and back on the bike in record time!
Further along as I ride past Mick who was cornerman in this instance I hear him yell to me “Really BIG hill” .. so I get on the gas. The day before I’d only just put in the Red “aggressive” auxiliary spring in the power valve and I’m lovin’ it! rather than aggressive it’s actually much more useable …suits me better, also wound out the main pre-load spring to bring the power band in sooner, anyway … back to the hill (Tower Hill as I now know it’s called); steep and freshly graded with the biggest erosion mounds I think I’ve ever seen! :woohoo: :woohoo: My stomach dropped on a couple like a roller coaster, If anyone was behind me I apologise coz I was gassin’ it as soon as I was on the verge of each one to get momentum for the next …. excellent fun. At the top, Scott, Mick, Dickie and myself go down on foot to help Conner who’d stopped about ten metres down, roaring up on the gas came KTM Bull, as he skewed across the trail trying to avoid Connor’s bike he roosted Mick like you’ve never seen anyone roosted before! I reckon there was Tower Hill dirt in every orifice afterwards!!  Everyone safely at the top, Dickies KTM525 was doing an impersonation of a kettle boiling, KTM Bulls fan was running flat-out! It was getting friggin HOT by this stage!
The only stack for the day I think was actually me?? Toward the end of the ride, a turnoff from a main trail, Connor is waiting there as cornerman and I miss the turn, so a quick brake spin to get back around and then another to face the smaller trail we were to head up … just as I power on to head up ,front wheel through the gutter and heading up the hill, back wheel about to follow, SMACK! straight into a tree root and up comes the front wheel and spins me 45degrees back into the gutter! No way my feet were ever gonna touch the ground as I straddled ditch and hill so I bailed just as KTM Bull came along bringing up the rear … “what are you doing? Are you OK?” he said. Later he said he thought I was doing Dust Angels as I was splayed out back down on the main trail where I’d started.
Fun day, Fun ride, Fun bunch of guys to go riding with. Thanks everyone.
If these were the worst conditions, I can’t wait for the “best conditions” … but without the 40 degree heat next time

moto wrote:The other thing I do is have about 10 air filters, then I only need to clean them all in one go and I’m right for several months of ridingAs someone who isn’t scared to spend up on bike bits Razz this would be my best advice to you!
Ok, that’s funny  … because after washing my filter at the last minute while the bike was already strapped on the ute Friday night ready for the ride at KTM Bulls early Saturday (which was awesome BTW), part pissed on a couple of beers I read the instructions on the Motorex Oil “leave to dry for several hours” … “Screw That!” I just oiled it and then shoved it straight back in then hit the web …..
I ordered 4 extra filters, two TwinAir and two No-Toil
Aiming for about the same arrival time … see you in the morning guys.
Umm, nope I haven’t, but it was worth a shot at a “somebody else cooked it” lunch
Not gonna happen by the sound of it…. ah well, muesli bars and nuts it is then. 😆
micknmeld wrote:Forecast is for up to 33 C. :ohmy:At this stage I am still in, as for Connor, it will depend on whether he gets his act together and services his bike this arvo.
Probably won’t stay for the night though.
I’m serviced (the bike that is), packed, camelback in the freezer (not forgetting that ever again), and ready to RIDE :woohoo: I’m soooo looking forward to the motocross track, I think I even managed to find it on Google Earth, felt a bit like spying/stalking really but anyway…
If it’s hot, we’ll survive … there’s a river somewhere around there isn’t there?? Did Connor service his bike Mick? If not do it for him and then make him pay by cooking us all a barbie lunch and getting us beers all arvo (or something like that)
Smaller numbers = tons of fun ….. and more beer/less stomachs.
Hoping it’s not too hot, a shower of dust suppressant could be nice too.
See ya’s Saturday morning

I have been using that for recipe for many years
When we bought my son, Tims first bike (KX60) we washed his filter in petrol and it literally dissappeared in my hands.
Like Iva, I also recycle the turps a few times, using the settling procedure and I also use a rag to filter most contaminants when pouring back into the bottle.
Another tip is to apply the new oil to the filter through a squeezy tomatoe sauce bottle. Someone told me that recently and it works a treat. I then place it in a plastic bag and fondle/caress it gently to get even coverage.
Will have to try one of the proper cleaners such as the one Lefty is selling to compare.
Cheers
MurphI dig the sauce bottle idea Murph
Just ran downstairs, ratted thru the bin cause I saw one in there last night, rpped it out & gave it a clean in readiness for filter cleaning tomorrow night
Re Oiling is the worst part ,,,Cheers
That’s SO FUNNY! I just did the exact same thing coz I threw one in the bin two days ago
Thanks everyone, some good advice as always.
I never thought of needing gloves! And am a little surprised that the Nundle boys use them
… having said that I think I’ll be getting some though.
Iva; you’re not going to die of cancer, you’ll just have really dry old prune hands
TB; I cant make Coffs unfortunately, damned OS work commitments!
Thanks again everyone.
razzle
That looks like TONS of fun! :woohoo: :woohoo: Beautiful job!
