As usual it was another spectacular outing with OBTs sweep team.:cheer:
I arrived at Micks on friday for the shed gathering, i was not only treated to some excellent food supplied by Mick’s wife i also saw Sam attempt the penny farthing challenge.
Although he ended with a stack just to get on the bloody thing in the first place took some stones.:SSaturdays sweep started as usual with us ready to go and pretty much left to our own devices to sort out what we were doing.
Our experience with Mt seaview saw us sort it out pretty quickly with the group splitting into two so that we could cover the pros / seniors and the juniors / womens.Sweeping on the Saturday consisted of Sam doing the actual sweeping and Adam and i repairing bunting all day.
It seems that there is some issue with pro / experienced riders staying between the bunting.
You don’t do as much bunting repair in the womens and juniors tracks. At one point while repairing some bunting we were stuck out on the track when the pros went through.
We just stood on the side of the track with our jaws open watching these guys make the rocky rutted track that we were struggling with seems like a flat fire trail.
I have to thank Moose and Cathy for their hospitality not only did they have to put up with us but there were some kid type sleep overs as well.
Saturday night on the verandah with a few drinks a barby and some tall stories was all good.
Not to mention the additional food supplied by Cathy and Gassits wife.
Although after Saturday’s efforts and the prospect of an early Sunday the festivities ended fairly early.Sunday the tracks were changed over and i did one sweep of the pros that went up into the hills.
It was an awseome track and had some logs and rocks strategically placed making it technical in places.
I spent the rest of Sunday sweeping the juniors which is where i had the Ertzberg flip.:whistle:It was a man made mound that had been muddy at the start of the weekend and formed some pretty big ruts at the base.
As the weekend progressed each rut developed it’s own characteristics.
I had been using the same ruts each loop but on this one occasion i opted for a change.
The rut i had chosen had worn down to an up ramp with a vertical rock face embedded.
When i hit it the bike went straight up in the air with me coming off the back, i would like to say at this point that i decided to let the bike launch in an Ertzberg style dismount based on some feat of control but it was more a case of survival.:S
I didn’t want to end up with the bike on top of me so i twisted the throttle and gave it a big push.
The bike shot into the air and did a flip coming down on the bars and seat, it then collapsed on it’s side.:pinch:
Luckily it was lying on top of the mound so all i had to do was climb up, pick her up and straighten the twisted lever mounts and bark busters and ride off.
Amazingly only Adam saw it because he was behind me, I would have thought a 450 Kato flying through the air upside down would have drawn some atttention.:dry:Athough sweeping is pretty full on with early starts, bunting repairs, activist watch, dragging bikes out of the mud and picking riders up it’s a real experience.
You get to ride some excellent tracks, see some of Australias best riders in action and do it all with a great group of OBT members.
Oh! did i mention the laughs that’s a big part of it.If you haven’t been to a Mick or Moose shed party i would highly reccomend it!
Rebore.
Member of the OBT gun sweep team!
As usual Mick the pictures don’t do that gulley justice.
Adam and i had to drag the Kato out of there.
But your right i certainly wasn’t the only one!Rebore.
Hello Mick,
I’m still in!
Depending on the bike i may be up at Moose’s a little later on Friday.
I’m happy with whatever goes. Can’t squander a leave pass.I have aquired a swag (stole my sons) so i will be taking advantage of Moose’s hospitality.
Would be helpful if i had Moose’s address though?:unsure:Rebore
Bloody disappointing.
I don’t think they will need sweep riders for the special tests.
The disheartening thing is that a few can spoil it for many.
After speaking with Protty at the state event there is also an unbelieveable amount of work that goes into these events.
To have it all go up in smoke would be soul destroying.
On a selfish note i was looking forward to the riding, Mt Seaview has some truly spectacular riding terrain.Rebore.
Hello Mick,
Yep still good to go!
I’m even going to bring a helmet this time.
The KTM is currently in for repair but i have a back up just in case!Rebore.
Hello Adam,
I got carried away with the new bike!
I also should have said that although i would like to go on this ride i can’t.
Due to it being Father’s Day.But if you scout it out and it’s good i would happily jump onto the next one!
Rebore.
Moohahahaha! 👿
I knew that my plan to get you along to the KTM ride day would work.
Slowly converting OBTs over to the right coloured bike one by one.:laugh:Mate, that was a quick decision, did you buy it during the minister for finance’s trip away?
I have to agree with your selection though they are an impressive bike.
Did staying in front of the pack at the sweep ride in september have anything to do with it?
Rebore.
Hello Mick,
OK i am in on this one.:woohoo:I took your advice to the letter.
I approached my wife and told her that i was the boss, i would go where i liked and i ould not be dictated to!
Unfortunately at this point the discussion dissolved into tears.
But in the end she said i could go if i stopped crying. 😆 😆 :silly:
I’ll give it a try first before i bring in the big guns! 😆
Rebore
Hello Mick,
After our discussion i will run it by the fun police and see if i can sell it.
Keep me in until tomorrow and i will have a definite for you either way!Rebore
Hello Mick,
Normally i would be on this like a fat chick on a smartee but.
I am travelling the weeks before and the brownie point stock pile is dangerously low.
I am trying to build them up for the pocker run.I am happy to give up my spot to another OBT as they will have a great time.
Rebore
Hello Teza,
Coming in a bit late on this one but wasn’t this the same RMX that you declared to be bad luck or some such after your last crash?
I seem to remember you talking about an upgrade to a 4 stroke.
Maybe the RMX is trying to tell you something.Rebore.
