    Not exactly your majesty.
This setup is for the slow stuff.
But I want to build a versatile bike, and I’m prepared to change cogs for a more roadworthy gearing.
And I do aim to get a rack and build my own soft luggage (down the track a bit)

    P.S.
Ive found the perfect solution actually. The main issue is heat.
I was browsing XR’s only and found a oil temperature gauge dip stick.
What a nifty little gadget. $40.00 to my door (eventually).
I ordered one. That will tell the story.

I think the idea is to not exceed 6000 for prolonged periods.
And if I do, then give it a break below 6000 for a while.

    Thanks all for your help.
    I’m running 12/44 atm btw.

Yeah I’ve got a Trail Tech tachy.
    2/3 of full throttle eh?
I’ll see how that works out.

My bike is geared up but TB reckons max is 8500.
Thats between 4250 and 5670 revs on the 1/2 to 2/3 principle.
    Those figures seem reasonable.

6000 is within a sustainable margin of error, but perhaps no more eh!
And consistent with what youve all been saying.

I’m now thinking 6000rpm is quite sustainable, and I’m gonna test out a few hundred more.
    Am I going too far?

Yes Mick it sure does help.
(as I’m sure the other two posts you made and deleted did)

Thanks TB – incisive as usual.

    No probs with that, Krusty?

The stock filter doesnt have a bar like this.

AND it copped a slight nick in fitting to the cage – I’m afraid its going to tear and work loose.

Thanks TB, thats the sort of advice I’m after.

in reply to: Cruising Revs #204519

I think I understand now – its subjective.

The reason I’m concerned is that some of the 2 strokes I’ve ridden seem to get sweeter and sweeter the more revs are piled on.
However that is not a situation that could be sustained as the motor would cook.

If I sought a dyno chart for my model, do you think that would help?

in reply to: Cruising Revs #204518

So for example lets say 7500 is where it stops pulling.
Is it OK to sit on 7400 for a LONG transport section?

in reply to: Cruising Revs #204517

This is the first 4 stroke I’ve owned, so I dont always understand what the bike is telling me.
All the gearing I’m doing is higher (more tractor like) than stock.
Perhaps I’m not over endowed with common sense.
Would you sit on 7k on an xr250? How about 8k?

in reply to: Cruising Revs #204516

    Krusty,
that is an awesome site, thank you very much.
But I still dont see how it tells me what revs I can sustain without cooking the motor.
It tells me what speed I attain at 8000rpm, but doesnt tell me whether I can sit on 8k.

in reply to: Cruising Revs #204514

How does that relate to sustainable revs?

Essentially I suppose I’m talking full on adv cruising, although I dont tend to do a lot of that.

    Hi Demasi.
You’d be a young bull then.
