    The ty250 is gorgeous.
Does it have a compliance plate?

    G’day Heals,
I’m from Gerringong and I also have an XR250. Great bike even if a little heavy for what it is.
Riding country down here is between Nowra and Batemans Bay and points west of there.
OBT runs rides out there and so do the usual suspects (dbw, dmsra etc).
Two common start points are Wandandian service station and Albatross at Nowra.
I look forward to seeing you on the trails.

Cool looking weeds growing around abouts, Bob!

David Fraser is taking care of tyres, switch and cog for me.

Good man David, you could do worse in the Oak Flats area.

A toggle switch it will be. Any recommendations for a rugged outdoor unit.

With the tyres, lets assume I’m gonna use Pirelli MT43’s with HD tubes.
What else should I do for puncture protection.

Anybody fitted a smaller front sprocket to a xr250.
Standard cog is 13 tooth (I think). Stall speed is too high.
I want to be able to crawl.

Has anybody bypassed or otherwise disengaged the everon headlight.
Can it be done legally? It is not safe as it quickly drains the battery after a bit of slow work on this bike with no kick start.

Does anyone have experience of trials tyres on a xr250, particularly Pirelli mt43, but any trials tyre or 80 / 20 off/on compromise?
Have Dunlop D952 now – too MX for me at the moment.

Bluddy Keen is what I say!

    Thanx BJ.
I am sure it would have been fun anyway.
Its the commute up and down the highway of death that baulked me in the end.
    We’ll catch up next time,
    Steve

C’mon BJ we know you are out there. How about a trip report.

Edit: how to make a fool of yourself in one minute.

Too wet for me folks. I’m goin back to bed.
Have Fun. Catch you next time.

So you guys run, rain hail or tropical deluge?

Please post any change to plans here. I’ll be leaving around 8.00 tomorrow.

    I do appreciate the sentiment.

Weather reports are worse every time I check.
I’m prepared to give it till Sunday morning, but it doesnt look good for me.
Been raining all day here at Gerringong, and its not meant to get any better.

    Hi BJ,
would love to come on the run on Sunday (weather permitting) if you think I’m ready. I’ll be totally honest.
I used to be a pretty fair (but not FAST) trail/pseudo trials rider back when. But I havent popped a front wheel in twenty years.
I have had a Honda postie on a junk mail run for six months. This is substantially off the tar, so I have regained a little off road smarts.
Last monday I bought a xr250L and have taken to it easily. I have ridden it every day (a little dirt) since, extending myself further every time.
I feel comfortable, but am well aware of the skills that I havent yet regained. That said, I feel up for whatever the terrain throws up, its just the speed that remains to be seen. I am not, never was and dont wish to be an Enduro rider or MXer.

I’ll have to ride the 30 odd clicks down to Albatross (and back for that matter) on new knobbies so I’m sensitive to the weather.

    What do you think?

I am patient – I know there’ll be other rides.
    Steve

Well I’ve spent the last six weeks acquainting myself with the market, concentrating on WR’s and Katos.
Ended up with an immaculate 2002 xr250l with brand new knobbies.
Been going for local runs (mostly tar local laneways) trying to get myself up to speed to join in the Nowra run on sunday.
Biggest obstacle at the moment is the weather and the highway ride down to Nowra (on aforesaid new knobbies).
I’ll sign up properly if I’m going, otherwise I’m sure there will be something local on again soon.
