The only problem was I didnt know how I was going to stop it,and put it back the way the ol man left it. another 10 minutes later I had to stop her somehow, so I eased her up alongside the paling fence, I must have picked the only spot that had rusty nails holding the palings on and went straight thru the bloody thing with a 280 kg bloody russian monster squashing my leg on the bottom rail  Luckily the neighbor was home and helped me up. He also fixed the fence before dad got home  I ended up mowing his lawn for the next month .

Awesome! Don’t ‘borrow’ your Dads bike… 😆
micknmeld wrote:I just noticed the thing is sporting Brembo brakes!! When I think of Russian made I also think Chinese made, as far as quality and price goes. They obviously are far above a Chinese product. So if it isn’t a rude question what is a rig like yours worth ride away?See the link I posted above, but they are around $15-19,000.
Quality (since 2006) has improved immensely. Brembo brake, Denso 700w alternator, Sachs shocks, quality bearings, German gears, Keihn carbs. Lots of improvement even though appearance hasn’t changed much.
xy-transit wrote:hmmm any more info other than the pics you have? The Urals were developed from an R72 BMW, so the sound is exactly like a Beemer boxer. The feel/performance is often compared to an R75/5, not that I’ve had a chance to try one of those…

Really Kentucky? Not so far from where I live. A veritable thriving metropolis Kentucky is. 😆
Terrible Vale Rd – go along it and you’ll find a little blue sign that says ‘Ural Australia”. We had a weekend up there last year which was great.
It would make a nice day out to go sample the bikes. The local Ulysses branch did that recently and had a good day from what I hear.
Dusty wrote:If ya wnna have a look at one the guy at East Maitland sells them. They are unusual for sure Mick. Big beasts and the one I saw had the side car also. I thought they were pretty cool but can’t remember the price of em.The shop at Greenhills was all but closed last I was up there. The sidecar is standard, you don’t get a choice…
Price? Around $15-$19,000 depending on the model. Mechanically all models are the same, it’s all in the colour and accessories.

Awesome set of wheels you have there mate. Never seen one in real life, only on docos. Russian made are they?Yep, produced in the town of Irbit in the Ural mountains…
Looks haven’t changed much in 60 years but lots of not so obvious changes make them a reliable everyday bike now.
That photo was taken on an ADVrider weekend between Gunnedah and Upper Horton. About 750km for the weekend, 170km of that on the dirt.
This weekend we’re off to Coffs Harbour for a Ulysses get together…
