Finally an OBT ride less than 2 hrs from where I live. I’ll be there for sure, maybe with a couple of my old mates if there’s enough spaces for them.

    Hi Boze

You could try “glueing” the bearing into the hub with liquid metal product. Make sure the liquid metal is really dry before installing the rear wheel on the bike.

If the bearing is quite loose then you might be able to get the correct size “speedy Sleeve” to take up the slack and then press it and the bearing into the worn hub.

No guarantee either suggestion will fix the problem long term.

    Hi LC4skin
The Razorback Trail west of Cobargo and areas north west to the Tuross can be a bit challenging at times but are really good (if not a little dry at the moment) rides. We did some of those tracks 2 months ago just after the trails had been upgraded and they were a real blast

    Thanks Adam

I read this link and some other info of the high resistance return spring. I guess I will have to install it to get the full benefit of the Power Bowl. There is little or know room to get the carby off the bike with the extra frame etc for the 2WD system so rear shock and air box will have to be removed. PITA!!!

    Thanks again

    Hi Allan

I guess the main difference between the Garmin 650 T and the Rino 650 is the bigger screen on the 650 T and but no 5W UHF radio as on the Rino 650 and the $200 ++ price difference.

Although I am yet to master track conversion from Rino to Google Earth and vice versa – some good Youtube info is available on how to achieve this process. I’ll work it out when I have more tracks on the Rino and some pre plotted ones on Google Earth as well.

In my opinion the advantage of the cheaper Rino 650 is that the lead rider can at least locate the sweep rider if he has the same unit and even talk to him if the are not too far apart or that the terrain is too rugged between radio units.

Like all new gadgets, it takes time to sort out how to get the best out of them in a trail ride situation.

    Cheers

Down load the free Garmin “Base Camp” and purchase Australian & NZ Topo maps mini SD card off Ebay for about $20 to $25.00. Its got heaps of detail of most named Firetrails and shows contours at 20m interval and most formed gravel roads (even private property roads) as well as all the normal topo features and named normal roads.

    Hi
I’ve had a Garmin Rino 650 for about 2 Mths and due to extreme brain fade, brought about by old age and brain cell destruction – I am taking a long time to master the transfer of routes & tracks from the GPS to Google Earth map files and vice versa. I probably need to apply myself to follow the multitude of Youtube demo’s and instructions available and get it sorted in the future.

The standard Maps that come with the standard Rino 650 are next to useless when searching for Fire Trails etc without purchasing a cheap version of Australian & NZ Topo Maps for about $20+ on say EBay – but when you easily install the SD card a wealth of contour and fine detail down to private rural tracks a readily available on this device. In fact I can see gravel roads around my farm as well a most minor tracks every in Australia.

It has a small screen but has some good safety features such as 80 Channel 5 Watt UHF radio and the ability to identify other Rino 650 users (such as the trail sweep) in your vicinity, plus other stuff that I will master later on.

I paid about $400.00 for this Rino 650 plus $22.00 for the Maps SD card option. I actually saw one for $199.00 for Dick Smith store in ACT as a run out deal the day after I bought mine. How much is a Garmin 650 T?

Did my 1st ride on my new Christini 2WD 450 today around my farm today after a quick to Sydney and return from Bega yesterday ( 1000 + Km) to pick it up. I managed to stall the Rekluse fitted clutch and fell off it after stalling in a creek (usual No safety farm riding gear) landing back first after a 2 m fall on a 3 X football size rock in the creek. Needless to say my back is extremely damaged as a result of the crash. It serves me right to expect the riding characteristics of this new carbied bike would be the same as my Husaberg FE 570 fuel injected other bike.

The Christini DS 450 +++ has a lot of potential for an old bloke like me but will take a bit of getting used to. I send I a few reports as I get a few hrs on this new stable mate

    Hi Ace

Just get out & make the O/S and other adventures happen. A weeks or so adventure will buy you memories that will last for the rest of your life.

Me and my older mates have finally realised that life is way toooooo short. Sitting around bench racing in my slippers at 75’s is not what it’s all about.

O/S trips to 3rd (or all most) are a real eye opener – making us realise how fortunate we really are.

I lived most my life working 80/100 hours weeks from the age of 25 to 55 without making enough time for Family/ Friends and the only pastime I previously enjoyed – DIRT BIKE RIDING. DON’T let it happen to you.

    Cheers

    Hi Marty

We have done a few rides up to the Tuross River and beyond – and I was thinking of doing the KTM Tours ride on 17/18 August centred around Batemans Bay but its probably too late to get a start in this ride at such a late stage. Anyway – we are slowly working our way around tracks about 100 km or more from Home so we’ll be there sooner than later.

    Hi to all OBT members.

I have been trying to introduce myself for a while now but can’t seem to achieve it yet, so I thought I give this way ago.

I am an experienced rider on the wrong side of 60. I have re-taken up trail riding with my mates of a similar vintage in the Far South Coast region of NSW based around Bega, after a 20 year break from my mid 30’s to by late 50’s.

I’ve owned about 30 odd dirt bikes & about 15 quads since my first bike ( a 250 BSA at the age of 14). My current ride is a 2012 Husaberg FE570 ( it’s a Berg with the LOT) and its a way way better bike than I can do justice to. I’ve also about to pick up a new Christini 450 AWD bike ( fully optioned) from Jeff Gleeson in Coffs Harbour to play in the real gnarly stuff. The next addition to the stable will be a KTM 1190 R in 2014/5 for not so strenuous riding.

My mates and I have done 3 overseas off road holiday bike rides in the last 3 years. In 2011 we did Cambodia on XR 250 Hondas – in 2012 we did Argentina along the east side of the Andes on XR 400 Hondas and early this year we did Cambodia in different areas than before on Yamaha 450’s.

I was wondering if there are any OBT members in my area who would enjoy a ride with older (read no longer that fast) riders who known this area very well.

I gather that most NSW OBT members are located in the Sydney and north NSW areas but I ( any some of my mates) can travel and I am keen to explore other areas.

    Bye for now

    Ross
