I have another ride coming up Hatto which will better than the rut fest ride we did last weekend. The bike was pretty impressive in those conditions but. Next ride will be in an area I have ridden a lot and will provide a good back to back test. Its ok so far eh nothing bad jumps out. The suspension is good there were no PDS incidents although it was mostly only 1st and 2nd gear work we did. (remember the suspension has been done by Tekniks, fully done) ;)
    More later

Mal’s ride tomorrow would have been a good test, prime singles, it doesn’t get any better.

    Shame you can’t make it

r you not going at all rocket?
I was going to bring bear’s bike stand

I’ve ridden with you a few times & nothing normally stops you, you’ll get through no problems. The ride is just a bit more technical than the average ride in the area.

Mal & I did a pre ride a couple of weeks ago & both made it through without assistance or getting off the bike & pushing & you should be the same.

    You’ll enjoy it

PM me if you don’t know where to start tomorrow as Mal is possibly hosting a shed party tonight & won’t be near his computer

If you’re planning on Mals Saturday ride, it won’t be a problem as it is all slow technical riding.

Just bolt it on & worry about it next week

Steel frame WR’s run 14/50 standard & alloy frame 13/50.

14/50 on your bike would be ideal or as you have a 49 that’ll do.

You’ll be riding around in the high gears & won’t need first with the 13 front.

Went to Ben Bullin today. It was wet, but the trails were awesome. Had some clubman riders with me, and it took 7.5 hours to do a 65km loop. Had to ride some bikes up some hills a few times. My waiting time on the GPS was 4.5 hours!! Only trid 3 steps once (on my 125) and could not get up, so should be fun.

Will be interesting to see if your Ben Bullen loop is similar to the planned loop.

Normally takes around around 5 hours for the planned 70ish k loop, with only 2 of us, no stopping other than comfort stops

Did youride into the back of Invincible Coal mine? If you did I can understand people needing help.

As Mal posted we did just over 60k in 4hours, cut the track short by about 45min & 15k in the middle of the ride & then cut around another 10k off at the end if we wanted to ride some singles that we’d ridden in the morning back to the cars rather than ride Fire Trails as we were pressed for time & fuel.

This ride is one of the harder in the area & there are no easy options, I used it prior to Safari for bike fitness usually around 5 hours with minimal stops to do over 70k, although anyone that is a Grade 4+ rider shouldn’t have any trouble.

Although this isn’t my ride, it’s possibly best if an explanation of this rides grading is posted up. IMHO it fits between a grade 4 & 5, some will do it easily & be wanting more & I would hate to see anyone disappointed at not making it through the first 5k’s

Grade 4) You’ve been around a while haven’t you! Been on some tougher rides, happy to sweep and even get up the front. You can ride most obstacles without a problem and can mostly get up the bigger hills on your own. You can maintain a good pace for most of the day with infrequent rest stops. Minimal assistance required.

Grade 5) Can ride any track and hill that you can find and can sort myself out if it all goes pear shaped. Will need help only on the toughest of sections. Can go all day and only minimal stops are required.

The only photo of the day, doesn’t sum up the terrain very well.

We drove to Stuarts Point last night arrived @ 2am this morning, it rained all the way.

Today it has rained on & off all day.

Just saw the news Bellingen Bridge is under again, the Waterfall way flooded between the Pacific Highway & Bellingen.

As much as I enjoy a ride, I don’t think I could be bothered as I’ve ridden most of this area & been caught out in a shower & amazing how it changes the tracks. For those of you that go riding I hope it is worth it.

Dragged the roadies up hoping to do the Oxley, Waterfall Way and a few other roads, looking at the forecast they’ll spend the week in the garage.

For what it’s worth, i’d be one of very few on this forum that has met Cyril.

Our tent was next to his during Safari, couldn’t have met a friendlier guy, very diplomatic & always time for a chat.

Sure he was critical of the roadbook, all in a positive way, he asked for 2 minute interval start for the top ten, must have been a few quick riders thankful for that.

At the end of the day he’s a pro & rides for a living, not that many at Dakar or anywhere have that.

Not defending him, although if Coma had been stuck in the mud & Cyril rode around I’d think the outcome would have been the same,

All goes back to it not being in the roadbook, as was the same problem for Safari. Dakar the officials drive the stage 2 days prior & ammend the roadbook, Safari was done weeks if not months before, hence the reason they totally trust their roadbook at Dakar & Cyril had trouble with a roadbook open for interpretation here.

Even Anny Seel said it was dangerous to ride relying on the roadbook @ Safari.

That KTM didn’t complete the full Safari, Troy started on a 450 & swapped to the 530/70 (think it blew an engine as well), he rode the 30k road section at the end of the day to Laverton with me when my mousse failed, saying he wouldn’t let me get another penalty.

He had his share of his own penaties. That 530/70 leaked oil like a sieve.
