New RETREADED rear tyre with a tube for lower tyre pressure when hill climbing

New rear pads for stopping any loop outs. :silly:Still have worn grips though mate. They could be my undoing.
Have fun on Saturday lads. See you Sunday.
I Still don’t know where the ride off place is and what time????????
Part 3
We moved onto Bob’s hard hill and yes it was. By the time I arrived at the hill Nathan was halfway down the hill with his bike 50 metres up the hill. Damn I thought, I missed a sweet crash, one that gave Nath’s knee a tweak so he was sweep for the rest of the tour. Sam, Jason, Rocket, Ev, LC and I all had a fair crack with LC and Sam getting on top of the bugger after a handful of attempts and Sam upgrading bikes to the 350.
Alias Ev, Jason and I tried our hardest but the roots halfway up were enough to unsettle both rider and machine with restarts on the hill a no go. Various techniques were employed but ultimately we were unsuccessful. Jason had some spectacular crashes, even falling off the bike before it crashed a couple of times. Bob took up a post near the top to capture the action and provide feedback for the hapless riders. He even gave it a couple of red hot goes before we left. Thankfully he didn’t make it either.
We rode some nice sweeping fire trails which included a sketchy downhill section which a few of us rode back up for the challenge. Sam needed another challenge so he made his own hill climb nearby.
Around the corner lurked a nice rocky hill with a few small steps that seemed to be about 500m long. You had to keep left as on your right was a big drop away that was steeper than the hill you were riding up. Most had no trouble except Adam who had a couple of good goes then handed to 350 over to myself to crest the summit. I enjoyed the way it had good power to drive up the rocky hill and not throw rocks everywhere and lose drive.
A short firetrail section with heaps of dust and rocks kept everyone on their toes even LC who tried overtaking me whilst I was sizing up Jason for a pass. Shutting the door on him gave him the signal to wait his turn.
Kangaroo Leg hill was next on Bob’s radar and as Adams video shows it was a pearler. Loamy, steepish and not many trees to collide with. Yes I did have a muck up on it as 2nd gear just wasn’t doing it for me, so a couple more runs for fun put the smile back on my dial.
Bob’s secret pine single were up next and once again Bob was the “corner man” and let the experts loose. You just cannot beat this type of riding in the bush. Loamy, rutted corners, nil dust and kms of awesomeness. When Bob did get to the front he stopped to get a couple of pics at a natural jump, so we doubled back for some pics. As we left I found my bike facing the opposite way to Mal’s bike. Seeing my error I released the clutch a little too quickly and in a fright I grabbed the front brake. I was not going anywhere but the rear tyre was rapidly spinning. Turning around to my horror I saw that mud was spewing from the rear of my bike on Mal. Oops. Best I get out of here were my thoughts as Mal hastily kicked started his Heavily Blinged up Christophe Nambotin GASGAS 300 and proceeded to shower mud over no one as by then, I was alongside him. Onwards to the pines!
The next section of pines was the highlight as by now the pace was way hot. Rocket gave me the lead in this section but it took me a while to realise that I didn’t have my rhythm quite right and with Rocket giving me the hurry up by revving his 300 , I pulled over for him to come past and show me what he has got. It seemed like forever before Rocket came past, maybe he wasn’t so close after all, and was straight on the pace. He carved up that single like it was no one’s business. Still keeping his pace made for a fun run and I am sure Mal was not too far away with the mighty 2 strokes on song in the pines. The perfect amount of overnight rain made the conditions top notch.
It was at the regroup where we all talked up what a blast we had and then Bob comes up with this pearler quote of the day “Does anybody have any Pawpaw ointment “ . The four stroke riders searched their handbags but none was found. A cup of cement back at camp was not far away my friend.
We headed for home in two groups with one taking the fast way home while Bob led the diehards on a fast single/ fire trail to Neville then Home.
Bob, you have an awesome backyard and some great trails. Let me know when you need some friends to play with again. Thanks to your family for putting up with us for the weekend. Thanks to the crew for the laughs and the memories.
Great work with the vids Mal and Ev. Bob are your sharing your vids?

Part 2
Jason kept me entertained when I was sweeping as he found a few ways to come undone, around corners, downhill, uphill and over logs. All without injury so far.
Another highlight was following Sam after picking him up as corner man. Man you can ride mate. Creative lines everywhere, jumps off things that would cause others to crash or not attempt. Hill climbs no dramas as the video footage will show. Having trouble on the 250. No dramas grab Adam’s 350 and smoke it. On the hard hill climb, I watched Sam almost over the back guard , either looking for traction or near falling off the back , but in control with the bike and throttle/ clutch and tractored to the top. Only LC the Mtn goat was able to join him. More hard rides with skilled riders are in order for Sam to get better IMHO, club Enduro perhaps? Adam you have a star rider on your hands, and he seems like a good bloke for a young pup. Well done to you and your wife for raising a top bloke.
We continued on through fire trails and singles through the natural bush until we came out onto a grassy section that Bob led us into and out of some creek gullies. Most were tackled without dramas as Mal’s footage will show.
By this stage I noticed Adam’s tyre had lost air again so after a quick refill he and I rejoined the group. When we caught them the tyre was down again. A decision was made for Adam to ride it gently to the BBQ lunch break, about 20 mins away where Bob’s wife would have a spare tyre to change it over with the Tubliss system. He did well to not crash again and rode to his machines capabilities.
Mal had to replenish the fuel in the GASGAS tank from the 3L he carried, so the others pushed on down a single trail. Mal gave me a head start on the single and never troubled me. I did look behind once to make sure he hadn’t crashed.
Well the BBQ was top notch. Bobby had arranged some cold drinks, an esky to cart our meat in, as well as putting on some snags for the crew, and the fuel drums were brought out, much to Mal’s relief.
Adam was on the tyre levers fitting on new tyre from Bob with Ev and I taking a watching brief on the Tubliss installation. I took the same opportunity to put my old tyre back on and restore the KTM back to how it was. Go time for Galey now. With heavy bellies, full tanks/bladders and camelbaks we were off again for the best part of the ride, Bob’s secret pine singles. First up we came up on a natural bush single track that had been found by a Enduro nut as it was Primo. Bob pulled over to let the pros past as he knew he would get bulldozed over or overshoot a corner on his own. I followed Mal into the mana from heaven when Mal pulled over, probably to get me crashing on video. Alas it did not occur much to Mal’s chagrin. None the less I took to the single like a newborn to the breast and gave it my all. I started standing but smooth flowing lines were not needed here, aggressive acceleration (Throttle hand use Bob) was needed as well as deep dives under brakes, so a seated posy was assumed. Hearing Mal behind me kept my speed up and I tried to shake him off, but he was hanging in there like fleas on a dog. I paused at a section as the track disappeared and he promptly ran into the back off me.
The race face went on and I left him in my dust or should I say rocks as the track had turned to gnarly singles. Towards the end I could still hear a bike behind me, well I give him credit. Following is not always as easy as going first. A log hop signalled the end of the singles and a breather and Sam was right behind me followed by Mal. Don’t know where the overtake on Mal took place but the footage should tell, unless it is left on the editing floor!!!!! Well I had fun; it may have been the Red Bull at lunch that Mal inflicted upon me that helped. Everyone seemed chuffed as well.TBC
Nice work lads.
Dont worry about the cheeky comment Adam. I didnt hear it anyway. I could have guessed there would be some coming my way then. That is where I was struggling with the gearing. 1st just wanting to rip up and go no where , while 2nd would bog down or wheel stand depending on ground speed. I had fun on that hill x 4 anyway. Not a hard hill as Ev would say but FUN :woohoo:
Looking forward to the pics and vids Mal. Have you got one you can share????? :cheer:
I have to disagree as your skills are greater than mine and you are competiton proven.TB ,glad you like the report. Its nice that people enjoy them. Next one is WIP.
I reckon Michelle typed this while you had a beer and told her your sad story to type up!
You see this is why I do my report in sections, so that I can write the wrongs in others reports. 👿
Best you sort out some baby sitters for Sunday for me to show you some easy hills that I can get up. And I did have a 15 tooth sprocket on instead of my favoured 14 as it was RS.
Oh I do believe that I was ready before you were Bobby Long.
If you were really trying to wear me out you would have done the pines again instead of whinging about your arse and looking for ointment.
Final report tomorrow maybe.
Mal 3.0 where is your 2 cents worth.
Marty, get a south coast ride happening bro and I am there. Maybe I will pack my mankini for the beach afterwards.
Nice work Ev. great that you brought the cam/ video. Hope it has stopped raining in Bello.
This was an awesome ride in which we rode a mix of terrain from fast flowing, twisty fire trails, rocky rutted hill climbs on fire trails to perfect pine forest single tracks. Bob even threw in a couple of hill climbs for the hard core to try their luck at.
We headed off into the bush with a hardy group of ten riders being , Bob (Scratched up WR450) , LC (FE450) Ev(WR450) Rocket(KTM300) , Mal5.1 “Can Ride” (Heavily Blinged up Christophe Nambotin GASGAS 300) Jason ( XR400) Nathan (KTM400) Adam (KTM350) Sam (KTM250) and myself (KTM300). Mal chose to sweep first up.
Bob looked after us by running us through some nice shady fire trails that had held its moisture after the rain the day before. A few slippery corners kept things lively with Jason finding the scrub on more than one occasion. Nathan nearly found out the hard way that red clay = slippery as, when he pushed hard through one corner.
Then it happened, I blame it on Bob for failing to mark a log length ways on the track covered in grass and litter. Jason failed to see it and did a scooter grind on it with one wheel either side of the log caused a blocked track with Rocket stopped behind him. Adam was flying on the Orange beast, so much in fact that he failed to see the melee ahead and couldn’t pull up the Enduro weapon and slammed into the rear of Rocket’s 300 and going over the bars. Adam was a little sore and red faced with a smashed light, LH radiator shroud, bent lever and bar. Rocket was OK except for a couple of broken screws holding the rear light.
We carried on to regroup with our fearless leader and when I came up to pass Adam, as he was off the pace a little as expected after the bingle, I checked his rear tyre to see if he had a puncture but it was good and so I continued on to the lads. Adam however had a flat front and pulled up to fix it.
The tyre had been sliced in two parts from the crash dumping the air out of his Tubliss system. A tube was put in but it may have been pinched on the way in? , but a bit of head scratching was going on so as Bob famously says “just make a decision”.
So I suggested Mal put his mousse tube in the stuffed tyre and Adam could have Mal’s good tyre. Well I haven’t heard bitching and moaning since I last went riding with Mal, so I offered Adam my front tyre to use with another tube and I would take his split tyre to use with my mousse. NOW TB DON’T GET STARTED ON THE TUBLISS SYSTEM AS THIS WAS A FREAK OCCURANCE WITH THE TYRE GETTING SLASHED!
Mal had the stopwatch out for the tyre change but it was a blur of levers, gloves ,bullants, tyres and mousse as well as Ev pitching in with “I just don’t get it” concerning the mousse. The only thing was Adam’s Pirelli had a taller profile than my Dunlop and it meant I was now riding on about 6psi. Good in the wet muddy sections, not so in the rocks. So I did the sweep duties till near lunch which freed Mal up to get some footage. Adam was sorted and we were underway again.

Galey
So who won the race?
