I would say Jeffro the kit you have was designed for the US model DRZ400E. They don’t have blinkers or the big speedo unit, just a small trip metre and small headlight.
If you read you will see that article is nearly a year old, from may 2010, talking about 2011 model Bergs. Well the 2011 Bergs were released and they were just rebadged old school KTM’s 2T’s.
Don’t blow ya load just yet, leave that until it actually happens and not just online rumors.
I was thinking the same thing as Bundyroy. I am no engineer so I don’t profess to understand all this. As Bundyroy also questioned if the coolant has a higher boiling point than isn’t it letting the motor run hotter before you realise it. Just because it’s not boiling doesn’t mean it not getting hotter than the manufacturer designed it to. Do we now wait until the piston starts to melt down before we realise we have overheated the engine?

I have missed the last two birthday rides because of work but I got a direction from the boss last week saying I must take more leave. Shit he don’t have to tell me twice. I will get these dates locked in.

Have you seen MXTV’s test of the DRZ250. Check the Fro’s lap time at the end, he was able to match the time of a Husaberg 390. Not bad for 7 grand trail bike.
Looks sweet in black

Boll, the top box may be open but how about the side boxes. They get a hammering and are still going strong.
Can’t say the same for this one Beags.
Hears a tip for ya, don’t leave ya bike too close to a burning caravan.
Corey I love my DRZ and can’t see any reason to spend the extra cash to trade up to a bike like the KLX. That being said if I had a bike like the KLX/WR I don’t think I would trade back to a DRZ simply to free up some cash. You would have to find a good DRZ that doesn’t need anything done to it to make it worth while. By the time you sell the KLX, find a DRZ and maybe add a couple of things such as bash plates, rad guards and maybe some suspension work you will have to work out how much money you have leftover. Is that going to be enough to make the swap worthwhile.

So I’ve tried to match these price’s but obviously they are getting these tyres through the states. We are trying to keep your business here in Aus but its hard when people do this to us. The best we can do is MX Extras for $70ea and freight $10 metro $15 elsewhere
( That way we can make at least 2-3 bucks on them and keep the money in Australia)
This offer is for Old Bull members only and will not include fitting.Cheers
ScottHave you guys considers bypassing the overinflated prices of the importers/wholesalers and doing as online businesses such as Torpedo 7 do and importing product yourselves. Ultimately all our money ends up off shore as thats where all these products are produced. It’s time for greedy importers/wholesalers to either come to the party and give you guys a go at competing with companies who do there own importing.
singletrackmind wrote:Is it just fond memories or is it the no one rides 250 four strokes anymore. Could it be that most riders are now on a 450 or bigger that the old XR 250 seemed like such a singletrack weapon?STM
No STM, the XR250 would turn on a 5 cent peace. They were always regarded the benchmark to other bikes when it came to singletrack and tight cornering. They had a relatively low seat height (low COG), shortish wheelbase, and more than enough power in tight single. You could get the throttle on harder, earlier in a corner and just hold it on hard. They would hook up without wheeling, jumping out of a rut or swapping all over the place. I have memories of racing cross country were I could turn inside other bikes in places were there really wasn’t really room for two bikes.
I also used to race club grass track on the thing. We had open capacity classes which was fun but frustrating on the XR. I would pass 2-3 bikes in a corner only to have them blast past me on the next straight. Then I would pass them in the next corner, they pass me on the next straight. 😆 😆
This humble little machine has taken many victories, taking down much more race orientated bikes. The modern 250 four strokers set the bench mark now but in tight single were power is not an issue my money would still be on a well setup XR250.
PS, I have a Vortex duel curve ignition system out in the shed if anybody is interested. I believe it fits all XR250R from 96 on.
I’m another one with great memories of XR250 ownership. I bought a 97 model new and had it blinged out by Ballards with a 280 kit, suspension work and all the extra’s. Most of the work done by Nik Dole pre Teknik days when he worked at Ballards.
I use this bike for everything from commuting, trailriding, club mx/enduro, state enduro champs and even thumpernats where I had the privilege of racing with the likes of Andrew Mcfarlane and Ben Grabham. Still the best single track bike I have ever ridden. I used to love the way you could just hold the throttle wide open everywhere all day and the little motor would rev it’s ass off and never complain.
.
I certainly have better memories of that bike then I do of my ex-wife who would also rev her ass off all day complaining about everything. -
