Menace I have an issue with being able to ride a rec rego bike into town and there being some unwritten law that if your not being a dickhead you will be left alone. I can see the reasoning for this but the major problem is the bike are now uninsured, might as well be on an unregistered bike. If you run into and injure somebody who is going to pay there medical bills. This is personally why I hate unregistered bikes and a bike with rec rego riding where it shouldn’t is no better, the rec rego is all about insurance.
As for unregistered bikes. The majority of them I come across have unlicenced riders. Getting the bikes rec regoed may be simple and cheap but getting a bike licence these days is a long expensive process. This is no doubt why so many ride unregistered bikes, to much effort to get a licence, why bother with rego.
The idea of rec rego, land permits, designated areas may sound good in theory but would be a nightmare to enforce. The authorities already struggle to keep unrego bikes out of the bush. I’m not sure how it is managed in Victoria but I bet it is much easier to get away with riding a bike with no rego at all.
I think you will find under the new regulations most dirt bikes get a drop in premiums, it’s only those between 225cc and 300cc that go up. With the biggest selling dirtbikes being in the 450cc range it’s good for most of us.
If you were paying over $400 for your greenslip you were getting ripped off and should have shopped around more. My last rego under the old pricing was $360, Thats for inner metro, those in outer metro or country should be cheaper again. Next year my greenslip will be even cheaper. Why would I or the majority of over 300cc riders sign such a petition.
I personally think the new system makes more sense than the old one. Under the old system a KTM/Husky,TM/Gas Gas 300cc 2T was cheaper to rego than a DRZ/XR 400 yet a crotch rocket such as R1/GSX1000 and the like where similar price to 400/450cc 4T. The new system is better scaled.
As for rec rego thats a whole other argument, for me I would still get full rego anyway. I like to be able to ride my bike anywhere any time.
I was reading about these a couple days ago, BMW 450 motor in a Husky frame. I wonder if they will have the same stupid service interval of the BMW. Doesn’t the BMW motor need a $3000+ service including a new crank shaft after only 70 odd hours? That would be enough to turn me away.
TB you must be bored. Moved my post before I could even repost.

well done STM!!
Krusty, Ozzy blokes don’t need manuals or instructions and the bit about beer is just part of our DNA.
Good review STM. I have done this in the past with a really thin feeler gauge. I think this tool would be a safer option with less chance of seal damage.
Get out the camera Krusty, were gunna needs pics.

Quote:hi Gotowo, read the other threads in the Suzuki section and you will see what others have done. On that you wont know yourself when/if you get it done. It makes a huge difference.
And a question for you Brad.
If say i knew someone who was around the 135kg mark kitted, could the suspension on my, sorry i mean, their, 07 DRZ be done to suit ? And if so what is the heaviest person you could deal with ?
Thanks mate.
Jak, Teknik also did the suspension on Tiny’s big Husky. He a few kilo’s heavier than 135kg. Funny thing is Ollie rode it at the pocker run and still desribed it as quote “That thing is so nicely suspended like a big floating armchair”.
Gotowo, I have had the suspension on my DRZ done by Techniks. Pretty much the work Brad has recommended above. Springs front and rear to suit my weight. T-valve in front and re-valve the rear. I can tell you it is the best money you will spend on the DRZ.
Mine now actually feels softer over the small stuff even though it has heavier springs but it now takes big hits and landings from jumps (I’m no supercross rider, I’m talking erosion mounds) without harsh bottoming.
The bike generally tracks better over rough ground and is much easier to get into corners. Before the front would push bad. I have also raised the fork in the triple clamp 5mm to aid with turning in.
Another thing to note is at first I only got the forks done. I think a few others on here have had the front done and not the rear. This was an improvment but getting the rear done to suit made the bike that much better.
Mate I have no affiliation with Tekniks and I pay full price for there service, I’m also lucky enough to only live 10mins from there workshop. This is the second bike I have done by them, they worked similar wonders on my old XR280. I’m sure there are other great suspension tuners out there but Tekniks have my vote.
BRUISING!!! Ambo ride, hospital and Xrays for a bruise. Bloody attention seeker
