The last post was a bit old, but ill post my thoughts anyway…

After many years of tent trials & error, ive come up with two options that work best for me & my needs.

First one is a trap. Plane & simple, with some guy ropes, some pegs and at least a 3x4m, SeaToSummit make a really nice 3×3 with integrated guy ropes & little pockets to store them in.

Pros – Tarps are small, light, pack into any spot you have available, can be multi use eg lunch shelter from sun & can be set up in situation in any location provided you have Tapology 101 under your belt.

Cons – not good against insects (unless you set up a fly netting as well) & only offers moderate wet weather protection

All i all, a tarp is really hand to have, its a light cheap multi use item to have.

My number one go to tent is a thing produced by Black Dimond ‘The Mega Mid’ (see photos, note these are not my photos)

Its fast, light, great weather protection, multiple set up options, sleeps 4 comfortable or two with gear very comfortably.

It is a 3-4 season floor less tent that can be pithed anywhere & over anything. It has the ability to pitched with its centre pole or with a rope slung over a tree branch. it has amazing floor space to weight ratio & only takes two minuts to set up.

Although it is a floor less tent & there is a gap between the tent & ground, ive never had a troubling amount of water either splash of run inside the tent. BD sells add ons to the tent such as a bathtub floor & bath tub floor with fly.

One of my favorite things to do is take a tarp & create a patio out the front door with it.

Like i said, its my #1 go to tent, i absolutely love this little thing, there is very little that can go wrong with this sucka.

One thing is that BD produce a Mega Mid & Mega Light version. The Mega Light is made of a light weight silnylon that most light weight minimal tents are made of, but im my experience the fabric stretches when wet & becomes floppy/droopy.
