I thank everyone for their replies so far, it has all been most helpful.

I still have not received any information on what Google calls “Clarefield – Dungay Creek Road”. Other maps I have looked at refer to it as the old Rolland’s Plains Road.

If anyone know sif this is open / passable it would be appreciated. We don’t mind exploring ourselves if it is a day fun ride but when it is part of a round overnight trip backtracking can be a drag. especially if it is still so bloody hot.

    Cheers

Good stuff again Dickie, I take it fuel is available from Long Flat on weekends then. What roads do you take to get to Torumbee Road, via Mungay Creek Road? What is the normal condition for these roads, relatively easy or more technical?

Not going near Koppinyarrat road so no problems there, thanks anyway.

Hi Dickie, you may regret that offer, I hope your fridge is big. Is there fuel at Beechwood on a Sunday? I was half planning getting everyone to top up at Comboyne but if I know some is available there it would be a better stop.

Do you know what Rollands Plains across to the Dongdingalong area is like? It is probably the main bit I am not 100% sure about that I haven’t been on yet.

    Cheers

After way too many beers last night it was decided the weekend of the 12th and 13th suits the majority best.

The main sections I am after advice on is the stretch from Beechwood through Rollands Plains and out the back of Kemspesy and Macksville. If any one can help it would be appreciated.

OK, I cannot resist now. After hearing Maso wanting to share fizzy drinks in the pool with another old mate and now offers of sharing beds, this isn’t a gay pride gathering of some kind is it?

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

(not that there is anything wrong with that)

Yep will be updating that tonight..

Tapatalk has not worked on my phone for quite a while now, is there something wrong with my setup or is there still an ongoing issue with it?

    Cheers

Not sure if this will work but I have seen someone else post some files up here so (if it does work) you should see the waypoint file, route file and track log (most of it anyway, see previous post).

Didn’t work, back to message me and I will email them to you

Any problems let me know. The .log should open in Google Earth.

    Cheers

Messing with the tried and tested cornerman system could be a confusing situation, we all know cornerman and have been doing it for years, personally I think you will find that we will will all be fairly close together and it will all flow pretty good.

    PTW

Not looking to change for change sake, several ADV style groups I have riden with use this system as in this type of riding there are bigger differences in speed than single trail riding. The quicker riders don’t mind waiting but hate following and the slower riders hate having the quicker guys either sitting up their arse or tearing past them after every stop (me included).

No problem to me, just a suggestion, if I go I have been asked to sweep so my position won’t change.

    Hi all, I am giving Maso a hand with this and will probably be sweep for the trip. He has passed on the trail riders “corner man” rules and I would like to suggest this as an alternative corner man basics for ADV riding, a little different due to the lower number of possible turns and clearer, more defined roads;

You have a lead rider and a sweep who both know the way. You ride between them all day.

The general rule is to follow the road in front of you making no turns off the road you are on.

When the lead rider comes to a turn or intersection where it is not perfectly clear which option to take he will stop (or slow if rider behind is close enough) and ensure the rider following sees which direction to turn. Once he is sure the rider behind has seen which direction he has gone he will ride off to the next corner. You stop where the lead rider stopped and wait for the rider following, the same way the lead rider did for you.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT RIDE OFF UNTIL YOU ARE SURE THE FOLLOWING RIDER HAS SEEN WHICH DIRECTION YOU ARE GOING – JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE HIM DOES NOT MEAN HE HAS SEEN YOU.

It is also important to stop somewhere where you can easily be seen. Do not stop around the corner or pull off the road to get some shade as rider behind may not see you. This stuffs everything, if you take off to catch them the riders after that also miss the turn and it can be a long time to turn around the first wayward rider, and the rest. That said, you too need to be alert and looking for the rider in front of you if you are anywhere near an intersection.

If you get to an intersection and are not sure which way to go STOP. Stop all other riders behind you and wait for the sweep, he will then set you in the right direction. To take a guess can cause you to get lost and waste a lot of time.

Likewise, if you see the rider in front of you go past an intersection you have any doubts about, slow or stop to ensure the rider behind you does not get confused. If you are constantly aware that you are responsible for the rider behind you at all times and any doubts you may have could be worse in the mind of who is behind you, there should not be any troubles.

Keep an idea of how far the other rider is behind you. If it seems like a long time for them to arrive it is best to wait until someone in front comes back to you, preferably the lead. The sweep will get to a rider that has come off or is broken down quicker than you and there is not the risk of running into another rider coming the other way. If you do decide, either on your own or with someone else, to go back to see what is happening, take it very slowly and carefully keeping well to the left. You may find it was a simply fixed breakdown and they are now going extra quick to catch up. A head on between riders travelling together is very common when one turns around to go back and look for their mate.

If you are behind a rider that is going slower than you like and you cannot get past them safely on the road, signal them at the next corner to let you past. Similarly, if you have a rider hard behind you, signal them when you are ready for them to overtake or wave them through at the next corner.

Be careful when passing, it is not a race.

Be extra careful on blind corners, unlike trail riding there are cars, 4wd’s and even trucks on all of the roads and most are locals and therefore think as they know the roads they can, and do, go faster than they should. It is a long wait for an ambulance and an even longer trip out.

For bigger groups (10 or more) advise the lead or sweep if you know the roads or sections of roads you are travelling on, an extra person who knows where they are going can be travelling mid field to help keep things running smoothly.

On another note I have the waypoint and route files from my Magellan GPS if anyone wants it, PM me and I will email it through. I also have a track log for 80% of it which I will email through as well, it would have been 100% if Maso hadn’t stuffed it up. You give a bloke one job to do??????
