That was a shame to miss Saturday mate but I am glad you got to ride on Sunday in what was incredibly good conditions. Great news to hear that Coffs KTM nailed to problem off the bat and got you back in the game. I will drop by the shop this week and thank them for you.
Cheers

Saturday morning dawned cool and overcast but there were some holes in the cloud cover which showed some promise that the worst may have passed. The forecast called for showers in the morning and then it would finally be clearing up by lunch time. Nick and Chris got ready every morning at my place so that we could make sure we had everything planned for the day before heading out. We sat around putting our boots on and the decision to only run one group was finalised. Nick had put a lot of work into his loop but there was no guarantee that he would be able to get across every creek crossing and that could mean having to improvise alternate routes on the fly. I was confident that I could combine parts of both loops and make one ridable and just wing it as I went. That gave me the confidence that Nick would be on sweep duty and with a Spot Tracker on the front and back of the group we had done everything we could despite the conditions to keep everyone safe and give them a great days riding.
We arrived at the resort at 7.30am and most were already taking advantage of the buffet breakfast. It was a great start to the day as we were all together and all well feed. By 8.30am we were assembled in the car park and I gave the brief for the day.
In all there were 45 riders and the scene in the car park was unbelievable. Punters were spilling out of there cabins to take in the scene and kids were frothing and dad’s wished they were with us. With a group of this size my plan was to spread the crew as far through the forest and I dared and that way everyone would get good flowing sections. I left the car park and started to drop cornermen. Adams KTM did not get out of the car park with filter issues which left us with 44 and then Nato’s rear pads fell out of his Gas Gas and the pin was gone on the first stretch of road which had us down to 43. I hit the dirt and opened it up and at every corner I did not even wait for the second cornerman. I trusted the crew I was leading and wanted to go out fast. The trails were in great shape and for the first time in three days I felt that the weather had not beaten us and as the sun shone and the humidity rose I kept my bike on song and dropped riders on intersection after intersection. I was soon waiting a minute of so at each corner which meant that we were not bunched up and I was hoping that the mid pack was enjoying it as much as I was upfront.
By the time I stopped for our second regroup of the day everyone was loving it and I was stoked to hear how excited everyone was when they pulled their helmets of and started jabbering on about near misses and power slides. There were a lot of stories of lay downs and Merv limped over and said he was in pain. It was one of the few times of the day when you would be able to main trail it back without a leader so he decided to do the safe thing and head back. Now we were 42.To Be Continued

Friday ended up being a good ride despite the weather. It rained on us the whole ride but the trail surface was surprisingly good. When we got back to the resort it was smiles all around and plenty of stories of mid pack madness. As soon as I got home I checked the radar and it looked like the worst had passed.
Right on 6.30pm the first shuttle arrived and then did laps until we were all at the pub. Including families there were mire than 60 of us and we had a great night and a good feed.
By 11 I was tucked in bed listening to the rain absolutely flogging down on my tin roof. I rehearsed a loop in my head that would hopefully keep us away from the worst of it and checked the radar one more time.To Be Continued

My bike pulled through the crossing and it was only the first of four. All were about the same depth and as I cleared the fourth one I headed back up a ridge line and prayed that no one had drowned a bike. At the next regroup everyone pulled up and the group was in great spirits. It was clear the low lying stuff would be tricky but the middle ground and ridgelines were in good shape. I formulated my plan for the next twenty km’s and as the rain continued to flog down I took off up the next ridgeline with a soaking wet crew of OBT in hot pursuit.

My initial plan was to hit some main trail and gain some elevation. This would not only let the group settle in but it would give me a good indication of how wet it had gotten. Amazingly the ground had dealt with the worst of it and traction was good so I hit our first single. To say it was dry would be lying but it was in surprisingly good shape. It was still raining and I was wet through already but the riding was good. At the first re-group everyone was loving it and the group was running well. My next plan was to start working my way downhill to see what would be passable and then I would be able to mentally plan a loop on the run.
We rode a great single I had recently cleared out and at the bottom of that I encountered our first big water hazard. It was impossible to tell bow deep it was but it was clear to see how fast it was running
We really needed to be able to get across so I got off my bike and walked straight in. It wad knee deep and wide but it was definitely rideable. I waded back to my bike, pushed the button and hoped for the best. :unsure:Corey8 wrote:Nickj wrote:Corey8 wrote:Nickj wrote:Corey8 wrote:Mate how am i to get business when your standing there handing out warm towels an your phone number?

It is dead low tomorrow at 2.25pm so if you want you can come through the back way to the servo so if you want to ride down the beach and I will see you at 2pm.

While changing a rear tyre this arvo I had a little lever slip.
Result, broken little finger just above pre existing plate, and the end of it hanging down like a broken dick due to ligament or tendon damage. Just tried to grip a pair of bars and its not happening. Off to fracture clinic tommorow pm.Worst part is tyre still half done.
I’m out for weekend. Sorry everybody. (really sorry) Strucky, I realise I owe you money for the room. Just let me know and I’ll square it up.
Everyone enjoy and stay safe.
Can’t type anymore. (huh huh, couldn’t type much better before )

Hey Moose
I have never broken my dick but it sounds bad. I hope you are all clear to ride soon.

I have received some funny pm’s during the planning of this ride but this one I got today from Bollocks is the best.

i will either
A…be too fukin crook
or
B…be too fukin crook and have to drive to Byron.
or
C ..still drinking.
cya 2morow night rooter
Weather update.
We have received 45 mm in the last 24 hours. The big falls have been South and West of here. The terrain can handle water as it gets plenty so it will be good out there. Just make sure you have good tread and that your grips are secured. Nickj is going to post up the foamless Goggle trick that works so well in wet, warm conditions. I recommend you do the mod after you see his post. Safety glasses are the other option but not as good in my opinion.
See you tomorrow boys.STM
