Don’t get too overwhelmed by it Eags. You ride alone, you need a Spot. The two is the current model and will do the job.

There are always some isolated issues but Yamaha have struck a great balance between performance and reliability with their WR’s.

There is a lot of talk about a 250 two stroke Enduro bike.

“I was very skeptical of this photo when I first saw it. Now I’m not so sure. I don’t know much about photoshop, but I’m guessing it is basically a collage of multiple overlays. I have looked at this photo (a high resolution one) a number of times now and there are some things that stand out to make me think it’s legit:

    1. What was the fuel tank “shopped” from? It is along the lines of the YZ tank, but taller. Definitely a small increase in capacity and not the YZ tank.

    2. There is a small white plastic insert on the lower inside part of the headlight. That is not on the current headlight and may be needed to mount to an updated bottom clamp.

    3. Speedo drive. Yes it’s mechanical, but the YZ does not have one and this one routes the cable behind what looks like a YZ style fork guard. This right hand fork guard is not off the current WR, looks like the YZ unit, but flares at the top to feed in the cable.

    4. Check out the shadows. Would someone take the time to photoshop shadows of a speedo cable against the fork of a YZ? How about the bottom rear part of the skid plate? There is a shadow there as well that is cast from the plate against the frame. There is nothing to cast a shadow on the YZ frame. The skid plate itself is a close copy of the 2011 WR skid, but it is not the same.

    5. As mentioned before, the e-start in it’s usual location is gone. Did it move to the front? Possible, there would be more room there now, but hard to tell if that is what it is.

    6. If it has e-start, where’d the battery go? Not much room under that seat now with no airbox below it. The movement is to smaller, lighter, lithium. Could it now be behind the headlight? Would that explain the look of added “business” behind the headlight? Don’t laugh, I have seen photos of an XR650L with a 450X battery mounted behind the headlight and you would not be able to tell from the side.

    7. The front brake line looks funny to me the way it comes up to the perch. Just an observation.

    8. That taillight is not from any WR. Look at it closely and then look at the WR light again. The current WR light has the bottom black plastic portion that come further rearward. This one is more tapered and does not do that.

    9. Shroud graphics look nice, kind of like the ’10 YZ, but with a little splash of white to keep it current with the ’11/’12 YZ.

    10. Is it easy to photoshop something behind something else? This is just a question, but the kickstand looks like someone did a nice job if not real.”

    Hey Eags

    Here is the update.
Spot emailed me back today and the problem was at their end. They assure me it is solved and I tested my unit tonight and it sent both the email and the SMS. Seems they are aware of the issue it just takes them a while to get back to you.
    Problem solved.

After talking with STM this morning on the phone he was telling me about a new single trail he had found and it sounds unreal and at that moment i thought to my self that i am glad he wheres a spot tracker for all this single exploring he does and by him self. After all if something happen to him then who is going to lead us around in november?

Cheers for your concern mate. :P
Riding around on my own with my Spot definitely gives me a lot more confidence that should the worst happen I will be found. That is a lot of piece of mind for me and my wife. I hit the ok button on the hour and she can log on and see where I am. I don’t turn it on during the week though as she would realise I am hanging with Tdriver while I should be working.

At the end of the day the real test is when the sh*t hits the fan and you need the SOS button. I don’t know of anyone who has had to do that and I hope I never will.
I mentioned that I had an issue with my SMS’s not being sent and so far that has not been resolved. I did get a reply to my email enquiry a week after I sent it but all they did was send me a link on how to enter the phone number using international codes. I know all about the +61 drop the 0 routine as I have lived and travelled extensively overseas so I knew that was not the problem. I sent another email to let them know that but as yet I have not heard back. I suspect it is a billing issue and hopefully they sort that out as I did pay for an SMS bundle.
In saying that each time I pres the ‘OK’ button it is sending an email straight to my pre selected recipient showing them my exact location so that is all good. If the text was sent with it as it should be I would be giving a glowing review but poor customer service is unacceptable in a product that is all about fast response.
I am glad I own it and you should too, just make sure it is set up and working according to the plan you pay for.

TB just rang and they are on their way back now.

Deejay has now taken the Kings Fully loaded crown for going on an adventure ride with only a sleeping bag and a can of soup!!

Neither TB nor Krusty invited him into their tent and just rolled him up in a small tarp for the night :D

Krusty has spent a bit of time on the ground , TB has had problems starting the Tenere this morning and Deejay ran out of fuel but I’ll let them tell those stories !!!

    Great read guys!!!

    Nice one mate.

I went for a solo ride and it was super slick!!! I took the Spot Tracker and the X-Guider and went in search of new trails. I ventured further south of where I have before and found two good singles. I rode those and headed back to familar terrirtory and on the way home I turned down an intersection off a trail that I have not noticed before but have ridden past regularly. It was only a faint scratching of trail at the top but as I got into it turned to gold. I had no idea where it would end but as soon as it hit he next fireroad I knew exactly where I was and it will add a cool loop to a section we are already using. Even cooler is one line that is super steep and a creek crossing that is an oasis.
I can’t believe how this one forest keeps handing over such gems and it has inspired me to continue my search.
