    Part 5

True to form the next sections were awesome. Third gear singles that challenge you to push hard and brake late. At the end of Tunnel Ball I waited for the next rider to drop on a corner and it was Corey8. I asked him if he wanted to make a small detour to the Widow maker which was a stupid question as he was keen as to hit it. I left him on the corner and waited at the next entrance to a short single and saw Biggeral behind me and Quicky after him. By now we were running one man corners so I knew I was entering this section with Quicky on my tail. It is only a short section but it is sweet and you can fly through it if you get the line right. I popped back out onto the fire road and saw Quicky emerge from the single cheering through his helmet. One more corner to drop and we were at the base of the Widow Maker.
I can’t remember which order they took off in but Corey8, BellingenEv, DY4, Nathan and Quicky were soon standing on the top heckling the crowd below. Of that crowd the rest were happy to stay down so it was only Nickj and I left to hit it. Nickj had no choice but to give it a go and he reluctantly put his helmet back on and fired up his bike. Everyone there really wanted him to make it and as he took off we collectively held our breath. He got bounced around in the lower rut and had lost a bit of momentum before he hit the middle ledge. He managed to stay in the sweet spot on the bike, got good traction and cleared the ledge. From here it was up the steep face and into the upper rock slabs. By now everyone on top and below were yelling encouragement t as he crested the top and claimed victory. Well done mate. It rally is an intimidating section and anyone who has failed halfway knows just how tricky turning your bike around and remounting is. I fired my little Yami to life and whilst not pretty, I rode my way to the top.
By now everyone’s bike were getting low on fuel and Ev had just hit reserve so I planned about 15 k’s of single to get us back to the car. On our last hill of the day someone came to Nate80 came to grief and ended taking three attempts to get up. Shell was there to help and he eventually rejoined the group. We asked him what happened and he said he had bike problems. I asked him what the problem was and he said it would not get up that f*#cking hill. Classic!
From here we were only 5 minutes from the cars and a few of the crew were asking for more. With fuel getting very low and a couple of riders starting to show some fatigue I decided the best thing to do was cruise back to the cars and call it a day. We had ridden just under a hundred km’s and it was now getting close to 4pm. It had been a great day and to deliver everyone back at their cars in one piece and all grinning was a great result after a long day of riding in some epic terrain.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it one of the best days I have had out in my local. There are plenty more trails in wait and I will be doing my best to find them and link them into my existing loops before the November ride.

I choose to ride with a GPS myself and will do so unless I’m asked not too, I dont really see the point in using the spot tracker as I couldnt be bothered riding along following a dotted line on a screen. I find for me if I’m on a ride with other blokes I may mark a way point be it a good hill, a nice creek crossing or the exit of a good single track section for later but thats it…
I think given you are travelling on private property it is a good idea to not have people coming back later to kill it..

The main function of a Spot Tracker is to alert search and rescue. The plot track function is just a cool way to let freinds follow your travels. It is by no means designed to be a course finder. I did not even enable that function on mine. My Spot Tracker is only there for worst case scenario and it the one piece of bike kit that I hope I will never have to use.

I defend the right of a ride leader to make requests or place conditions on the group. If an individual feels that that is unreasonable then don’t go.
There is a lot of background work that is involved to host a ride and it is up to those that attend to adhere to the rules.

I hosted a KTM free ride last weekend and no one complained.

    No not true

I am not a fan of that long up hill with big erosion mounds after that linking single what ever it is called and i HATE loading my bike on the trailer.

Oh and i love hitting the rev limiter under the highway B)

That linking single is ‘Outer Limits’ and that hill is ‘Horsepower Hill’.
I always ring its neck under that bridge. How good does it sound!

    Part 4

I took his advice a chucked a U turn and crossed back over the train line. After my experience with the freak I was keen to stay on the other side of the tracks so I took the first left and it turned into a good trail that ran parallel to the line on the eastern side. It continued on for a few k’s before I saw more homes and a paved road. As soon as I turned onto the road a car came around the corner so I pulled it over for directions. This time I got the advice I needed and five minutes later we pulled into Glenreagh.

Last time I visited Glenreagh they sold fuel there but that was no longer the case. I started to wish I had not suggested Ev leave his fuel bottle back at the cars but it was too late for that now. Most were confident they had enough and when the others asked what we should do for fuel I suggested they just don’t mention it. I knew between us all if we had to we could siphon and get home but it was not a concern for now. The next challenge would be to find the start of that single from the opposite direction and link it back to the other side of the ridge line.

We rode of town and headed back up the way we had come down. That steep trail in the opposite direction was epic and it went on forever. Traction aplenty and water bars that launched you half way to the next one. This soon linked to the tight single we had found earlier and I began to feel comfortable as I knew we were on the way back to an intersection that I now knew. I was so stoked with this new link but I was also aware that fuel may be an issue so I hit a major fire road and headed east for long enough to get us within striking distance from the cars.

I stopped to regroup for the frost time since leaving Glenreagh and before long we were back together. I had not planned to drop into the next section of single as it needs a good clear out but as everyone seemed fresh I made the call to hit Kokoda. Nickj has posted it so you get the idea but it is a gem. If you ride this trail feet up top to bottom you have done well and I figured there is no better way to clean it up than send fourteen bikes down it. Being the lead rider I coped the worst of it including a strand of wait a while that cut my throat. Not as bad as I have had but a stinger none the less.

Once I emerged from the end of this I waited for a corner man and kept going. From here I had a plan to link three of my favourites together so I was keen to keep the group stretched so that everyone could enjoy what was to come.

    To Be Continued

He’s a little teaser then Corey, remember after lunch we did the new singles, hit some fire road and then STM said we had time to do Kokoda?

This was a highlight for me , I loved the tight trail and I’d never been on it before so I was happy with this footage ;)

I didn’t realise you had not ridden it before. When I found it I was on my own and it was even tighter than that  . It is starting to open up and will be sweet after a few more laps. Just one more epic trail to the tally :woohoo:
I studied my topo map tonight and I have now only scoured one third of that forest after 2 years so imagine what is still to be discovered out there.
