It was the smooth engagement that blew me away. I have not ridden a ball style Rekluse but I can say that the wedge system gives amazing drive.

Doesn’t anyone ride WR’s anymore? Looks like the YZ’s have taken over.

    Good thread Mal.
It seems there is a lot of development going on and more options than ever. I was lucky enough to be given my Rekluse and its installation as a prize thanks to Sutto’s. I was not in the market for one but after using the Core EXP I am convinced of the relevance of auto clutches. I would be really keen to hear from the experts the difference between the Z start pro and the EXP. Mal mentioned that he had a few frustrations in the past and one was the adjustability of engagement. It seems they may have addressed this with the EXP as I had no issue.

As for cheating where do you draw the line? Is getting your suspension tuned cheating. Is running tyres specific to your terrain or using EFI cheating? Our sport is experiencing a technology boom that we all stand to benefit from.

Hey Mal. Did you own the EXP or the Z start?
Z start mate. EXP wasn’t out when I bought mine.
It would be interesting to hear from The Sutto’s boys the diffrence and what improvements have been made. I know the EXP uses wedges instead of balls but what other refinements are there in the new Core EXP. I know I only had one day on mine but it was a solid ride in tough conditions and my bike never even gave a hint of stalling and I had a few offs and got hung up in some technical stuff.

Enjoy the clutch mate. It can make riding much more enjoyable in most situations and frustate the hell out you in a few.

Mal can you please explain the “frustate the hell out of you” what issues do you see on the clutch?

Sorry STM, last highjack of your excellent review of a good product. :)

The three main frustations I had are to do with not having an electric start bike.

    1) I couldn’t start it in gear if it stalled and you can still stall the bike. Very frustating mid corner. The clutch had a bit to much drag that I couldn’t adjust out of it without going to far the other way.

    2) Not making up a nasty hill and having a brain fade when the bike finally stalls and starts rolling backwards a great rate of knots. Very frustarting and painfull when you and the bike are cartwheeling down the hill.

    3) Not being able to clutch start the bike.

Highjack over. Might start a new thread on auto clutches.

Hey Mal. Did you own the EXP or the Z start?

I have some hills that are too fast for second but have me constantly feathering the clutch to keep my bike in the meat of the power in 3rd.

Sounds like a fast hill this one, they don’t move much where I’m from :silly:

No seriously, I would have thought this magic device would do well where 1st and 2nd gears are tricky due to traction/steepness. I would have thought anyway.

It was really good in those situations Axel. The slower and more slippery it gets the more it helps.

Can someone explain the difference between the Rekluse and the Rev-lock clutch. Reading Lefty’s review of the Rev-lock and STM’s review of Rekluse they appear the same. The Rev-lock looks like a much simpler design and is less then half the price of the Rekluse. Also has the added benefit of being able to adjust it up to clutch start the bike if need be.

Is there anybody that has ridden both who can confirm they do the same thing all be it in a different design?

I had a look on the Rev Lock site and it seems you can only buy the kit Lefty got if you have a bike with a hydro clutch. If you have a Jap bike you need a kit that includes a new lever and it costs $895.

From my limited experience with pads,
Think you will generally find that the Organic pads are better feel & stopping but don`t wear well, and the sintered are longer lasting with a litle less feel

Like tyres, they are a bit subject personal preference & what type of riding you do regularly :)

And like tyres the soft grippy ones wear fast and the hard ones wear slow. I am a fan of soft pads for the feel they give.
