I remember reading in a prominent Australian dirt bike mag an article about a national level MX racer who called Kyogle the perfect training ground. He said that he had up to a dozen places to train within a short distance. I remember thinking at the time that there must be a lot of private tracks up there and it seems that is the case. Maybe too many as far as the general public is concerned as it has certainly put us under the spotlight state wide. Let’s hope this concentrated participation in a small region does not threaten us all.

is that the bike carrier someone donated for auction at the coffs ride?????

That’s the one. Nickj paid about $300 bucks for it in Coffs purely for charities sake. He then moved the piece of shit a dozen times around his shed till he loaded it up in his ute to surprise Ollie with. Whilst loading my bike on last Friday he slipped on it, my bike rolled backwards and as he turned to grab the front wheel his left foot got locked in the carrier whilst his right got jammed between my pivot peg and the tray. My bike was at the balance point and was about to topple out and tear Nick in half so I jumped behind it and held it up like a scrum. Neither of us could move and to any passer by it would have looked a sight. Nick untangled his left leg, I lifted the peg of his right and we skull dragged my bike back into his ute.

No written list is ever going to be able to capture that award presentation. TB’s delivery and the calls from the crowd were pure gold! I smile everytime I think of it. Ollie being awarded the bike carrier had me wetting myself and then to top it off he put it back up for auction and nobody bid. Funny shut indeed

On the birthday ride I bottomed out heavily on a downhill water bar which turned into an uphill landing  My Whipp’s bashplate not only saved my frame but my arse as if I had hooked up I would have gotten thrown. It was then I remembered Tekniks had advised me to get my shock shaft re-chromed as it had corrosion and could tear the seals. While Sutto’s are fitting my Rekluse they have removed the shock and delivered it to Tekniks to have the work done. While all this was going on Adventure Moto were shipping my discounted Spot Tracker. I tell this story as in the space of just a few days four of our site sponsors have helped me out. We are very lucky to have them onboard.

I take it that even if the huggers get this through it has no affect on State Forests and our access there.

Pete, you’ll keep.  It is a XR thing, that until you own one you will never experience the cameraderie that goes with it. I dont think it happens in Kato world.

I saw this from Galey on the report thread so I have posted it here too.

Also spoke to a lovely lady at Adventure moto today who took my order for a bright orange Spot Tracker ($219 0n special) and ICE usb card ($10). Perfect colour to match the Kato! B) # 1 and 2 on the best sellers list! Maybe after the weekend there has been a rush on:) I told her that TB and the OBT crew gave me the heads up and i think she muttered something that I couldnt pick up:woohoo: This seriously must be the one stop shop for any Adv and Trail rider looking for their adv gear. Well done to the OBT crew for getting them on board as a sponsor and the preso on Sat night showed their commitment to our members.

Sunday morning dawned relatively warm compared to the days before. Either that or my body was working so hard to filter out the toxins it felt warm
I sat by the fire to chat with a few of the boys and the smoke swung a full 180 and smashed me in the face. I stumbled back, changed seats and it did it again. The third time it got me those in attendance were cracking up so I took the hint and went back to bed to grab an extra hours sleep before making the trek back to Capertee. As for the mystery man on a bike that sounded a lot like a 650 with a custom pipe who decided to cut laps around my tent, Cheers :pinch:
As soon as I started riding the cool air combined with getting into the moment washed my hangover away. It was only on corners that I felt the ill effects of the night before but to be honest it didn’t bother me that much. I enjoy those nights so much and get so excited to see everyone that a little over indulgence was fine and a bit of morning discomfort was a small price to pay. Would I do it all again, you bet I would :woohoo:
My sweeping duties were done for the wekend so I settled into the mid pack and enjoyed the antics. The terrain varied alot and the route was well designed to cater for all levels. One section before the last big water crossings went for ages without any intersections and I was sitting on the back of Nickj for what felt like 20 k’s or so. It was open twin trail with some square edged rocks that hit you hard if you got off line. When we finally got droped on a corner we knew we would be in for a fair wait as the chance of getting the whole crew through that without a flat was almost impossible. Sure enough we could hear nothing coming so we sat down to wait.
From nowhere I was attcked by the most aggressive shit I have ever experienced. I was regretting not following TB for the morning run on the 690 and asked Nickj if he had any poo tickets. He didn’t so I held on as he tried to make me laugh and everytime he did I almost let the turtle escape.
After 20mins of hanging on the sweeps arived and we were gone. It was at this point that I realised that taking a dump was not the only thing I had forgotten to do in the morning as my bike spluttered to a stop. I turned the tap to reserve and with Nickj on the blue tooth I let him know that I may need to sacrifice my hydration hose and siphon some fuel.
I soon forgot about these two issues and the next deep crossing when my breather hose choked and my bike stalled in thigh deep water. By now Nickj was pissing himself and for the second time that day I nearly shat myself  I wasn’t on my own walking out ofthe creek as Bollocks on the same bike had the same issue and we walked out together. Mine started firts push and we were away. You reckon 250f’s feel light to ride then you should feel them with about 100ml of fuel in them  Amazingly just as we rode through Capertee my bike spluttered, I hit neutral, turned it off and rolled to a stop at Nickj’s ute. Gold!!!

The loops on Saturday arvo were great fun.
The 3/4 group of Galey’s was by far the biggest group so Nickj and I swept that together with the blue tooth on. Riding with those on is so funny and Nickj and I were giving each other heaps and pushing each other hard. The trails were linked well with a great mix of native and pine singles. It is totally different terrain to my local so I enjoyed the diversity and was loving the pine singles.
Galey is a pro and picked up on the fact that some were starting to fatigue so he pulled us over and gave riders the option to cut it short and bail. I was having a ball and it was an easy choice for me to stay and keep sweeping. Galey planned another 30ks to finish the day and about 20 in Mike hit the tree. He is one tough bastard because he had cleaned snapped his femur in two and shattered his knee yet he lay there and sucked it up. He did well to stay calm and eventually the ambulances arrived and sorted him out. He seems like a real good guy and hopefully will make a full recovery and be back on the bike.
We arrived back on dusk and freezing cold. It was warm in the singles and I had stripped down at lunch but the temp had plummeted and I spent a good 10 mins around the fire before I got changed and ready for the night.
I sat a can of Fully Loaded in the fire and 5 minutes later I had eaten, binned my can and plastic spoon and grabbed another beer.
The presentation and auction was very funny and TB, Chris and Bollocks did a great job. It was another great night of laughs and bonding with such a good bunch of guys. Everyone mingled and you only had to turn your head and you started up another conversation with someone equally stoked on the day they had had. As I mentioned earlier coronations can get messy and straight JD was probably not what I needed nor any of Gotchya’s liquid madness but that is easy to say in hindsight. I did have a small spit to clear my throat but nothing major
It was time to crash so I stumbled down to my tent and wrestled with my sleeping bag which I woke up next to instead of in :pinch: I was showing anyone who would look my new camping setup and I still didn’t mange to get in my sleeping bag. I will be back next year for third time lucky.

    To be continued.
