    With full rego comes full freedom. Why would we want to trade that in?
    I ride almost no bitumen at all but the 2k stretch I do have to occasionally do is know as the Pacific Hwy! If I got pulled over on that with rec rego I would be in deep shit yet it is the link between me and thousands of square km’s of state forest.

    Let’s not invite more legislation to the table by opening it up to everyone. If it is a matter of cost you are in the wrong sport. If it is because you want to ride an MX bike in the bush go to a ride park and if you are in favour of rec rego because it works in Victoria then move there. :laugh:

    Speak to a Euro or someone from most states in the US and our freedom to ride is unparalleled. We are better keeping our heads down and being courteous to other trail users than we are standing up and screaming out for rec rego. Whether it is justified or not most other users of state forests hate us but because we jump through the hoops of being licensed and rego’d we are allowed to coexist.

    I am very happy with the current set up and all the incredible riding I have outside my garage door I get to ride knowing that I am completely in my rights to do so.

    Before everyone had assembled at the bottom Corey took his first attempt at the “Widow Maker”. Most hills look flat on film but even standing at the bottom you do not realise just how steep the middle face of this thing gets. It was enough to kill Corey’s momentum and back down he came. Riding it is one thing but turning around mid face and coming back down is even harder. After muscling the bike around he lined up for his second run. By now more riders were on the scene and before long it resembled a yard sale. There were bikes sand bodies strewn all over the place. At one stage there were three riders stopped at different points and others revving at the bottom ready to go. It was one of the best moments I have ever witnessed on an OBT ride. People yelling encouragement, laughing at the carnage and generally having an absolute ball. Murph and Mike made it look easy as you would expect from those two and Chicken refused to say die and nailed it after a few attempts. Crash lived up to his name and had what must have been a shit your pants type experience when he became a passenger on a BRP rolling backwards down what many people would consider a cliff! It looked bad from below so it must have been terrifying for him. He is a tough bastard and after eating shit he rolled back down to gather his breath.
    Factory Phil turned a very new KTM into a very second hand one in a few short seconds. The noise that Austrian made as it scratched it’s way back down the hill side was like finger nails down the chalkboard and every one grimaced as if we had been collectively kicked in the nuts. Not sure who it was that screamed out, “turn it over mate, the other side still looks new”, but that was about all the encouragement he was going to get. Eventually he skull dragged it around and rolled back down to the waiting crowd
    Corey by now was determined and hit the bitch with full commitment and made it. It really is not a hill to have half a go and hope you will get up. You have to sit at the bottom and believe you will make it or it will not happen. He looked solid right the way up and did what he needed to do. Unfortunately for TB this meant that he too now had to fire up his BRP and do the same. By now it was half on the bottom and half on the top and as TB put his camera away and got ready all eyes were on him. There was no way after the pre ride banter that TB could turn away from a hill the Corey had ridden so it was show time from the big fella. The next 60 seconds were some of the best riding I saw all weekend. He did not spin a wheel once and tractored up the face feet on the pegs and perfectly balanced. The crowd went wild as he arrived at the top with his full froth on.
    I thought I should get up while I felt inspired and the little Yami charged to the top.
    Soon after the Dude had a successful run and Tom had no choice but to join his old man on top which he did well.
    Now there were more on top than below and you could see the peer pressure rising out of the valley like a thick fog. Crash tried valiantly again but his BRP pig rooted him and then Kram mounted his steed up and looked committed for a run. Till now he had been happy to sit out the madness down below but it looked like his time had come. I had witnessed him compound his wrist at Sofala and I hoped that he would nail it more than I had for anyone else that day and he did just that. I was stoked for the happy hippy who was back to full form after only a short time back on the bike.
    Most had made it while a few remained below and no doubt in time everyone would have gotten up but we had to press on. We met up at the next junction and after a quick look at the watch I knew it was time to get going. I let the group spread out plenty over the next 15k’s as we had proven that the group working well together and through this period we rode some excellent terrain that was in primo condition.
    At 11.50 I pulled over near the Pacific Hwy for our last regroup before lunch. As we waited Nick’s group rode by us from the south on their way to lunch and to everyone assembled it would have looked like perfect timing. I was worried however as Nicks group should have only ever been on the North side of the Pacific hwy and after the news TB had given us earlier I hoped that everyone in his group was ok. I did not need to worry for long as we soon regrouped and hit the road for the quick 2k dash to the pub for lunch.
