So many tyres, so little time!

Solution? Ride more, roost more and convince my significant other that tyres are a safety item and can not be skimped on.

If it was me I would wait, I tried a Metzeler and the outside knobs chipped quite badly, I dont and its only my opinion like the M5 rears and heard Boulder saying his one with lots of tread left on it was going to be changed as soon as he got home

    TB

i agree with tb had a m5 metzeler on the back was okay at first but wor out real fast and fish tailed every where acted like a baldy when it had 75% of it tread left .if you can t get a mitchy just get a bidgstone or dunlop with the right compound for your riding conditions pirrelli scorpion back tyres last well to

    Thanks white rocket.

I just called the shop and have an S12 on order. It will be on my bike in time for my OBT debut at Bello.:woohoo:

Boony, by your own admission you aren’t the most ‘foolly sik’ rider out there and therefore I wouldn’t bother with the S12 front. Mine wore really quickly and lost it’s effective quickly too, although it did offer huge grip to start with. I haven’t tried the M12 front but alot of people seem to run them and like them. It will be my next front tire.

I currently have a Starcross MH3 on and whilst it has good grip the top of each knob has started, or has fallen off and therefore I am less than impressed with the life of the thing.

    Hey Moto

Is this post confusing or am I just drinking too much of my home brew.

Hey STM some great trails up your way. I use to live at Sandy Beach and ride out through Woolgoolga and Nanaglen top trails up that way.

You are not wrong. I had no idea when I moved up here that there was so much riding on offer. I spoke to an old timer recently and he said a lot less people are riding these days but the trail network remains. It is just a matter of chipping back some growth after big rains but in all it is in good shape.

Do you get up here these days?

Back to the topic, if you can get 661 at a good price I can’t see how you could go wrong. Zippers can be replaced later on if need be. I have had mine for DH MTB for 5 years and have now crossed it over to my moto kit bag so for a couple hundred bucks it is very good insurance.

I have been happy with my 661 pressure suit but the weak link is definatley the zipper. Best bet is to leave your spine plate attached as the more you remove this the trickier it becomes to get it back together.

For the front(side) zipper just flush it out as the sweat and grime take thier toll pretty quick. Bit of WD40 doesn’t hurt.

Another trick is to make sure the shoulder straps are snug as this not only holds the armour in place during impact but takes a lot of strain away from the zipper.

dont wait too long for that front end grip stm;)

    I hear you Aarochild.

It is starting to dry up a bit but is still very greasy in spots. I will definately have new tread on for the Bello ride. Weather looks good for the next two weeks so all going well conditions should be perfect.

Now get off the internet and go and clear some more lantana!

I went down the local shop yesterday to get an S12 fitted after several OB recomendations but the retailer said that I should give the Metzeler M5 a run on the back and M4 on the front.

Do I wait for Michy’s to come in to stock or just go the Metzeler so that I have new tread for the weekend?

    Cheers

Thanks for the advice guys, as always very informative, not to mention entertaining. Based on this I have a few K’s left before I need a new set.

Any tips on how to spot when you are ready to for a new drivetrain?

in reply to: Rear sprocket, alloy or steel? #133479

Is is not necessary to change the front sproket at the same time or does it not mate to the chain in the same way?

Puddles you have orange feet and an orange beak, the last thing you need is an orange bike. From what I am reading on OBT we need more Blue bikes anyway to correct the plague of orange and yellow ones.
