Friday 29th cont.
As we rode out of the campground it was clear we were in for a hot lap of Mikes local. Damo flew past me on the back wheel of his six day 450 and Spud took off after him. Nickj and I twisted the wrist and hung on as we disappeared in a cloud of dust down a service trail.
It was not long until we turned into our first single and got a taste of what was to come for the next two days. It had been 12 months since I had ridden this area but I had not forgotten how good it was and it seemed Mike felt the weight of expectation as he delivered sweet single after single.
On the rare occasion you got to see Mike it was not for long. There are probably more photos of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster than there are of Mike on the trail but I managed to get one before he disappeared around the next bend.
Over the course of the next two hours we stopped to regroup once and that was just so Mike could see if we wanted to ride a buffed 12km single again. The answer was clearly YES.
Every time you hit a single it was up on the pegs and railing and then you would see a cornerman pointing you onto a service road and the dust plume from a bike off in the distance on the pipe. The next time you saw another bike was at the next entry to a single and off you went again.
We rode 64km in under two hours, Not much for the ADV crew but we were riding mostly singles!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VMOoq8D0JUBy now we were well and truly warmed up for Saturday so the call was made to head back to camp, crack a coldie and float around in the river.
Perfect! We then settled into our campsite and celebrated a great day with a few more ales and a camp cook up.

I had a great run up the coast and four hours after leaving home I crossed the Gateway Bridge and set my sights on the Sunshine Coast. As I continued north I wondered what Mike would have in store for us this year. If I had of been able to see the future this is what I would have seen. Thrills, Spills and Massive Hills!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu2QVRtT3d4After a few calls to Mike, he and Damo met on me the side of the Bruce hwy and led me to the campsite. On the drive west from the coast the mountains started to jack up and seemed to grow with every km we travelled. We crossed crystal clear streams running down from the mountains, which snaked their way through the fertile valleys and flowed on through little old country towns.
Following Mike it was hard to know whether we were going riding for the weekend or helping him move house.
When we arrived at the campground we found Nickj and Spud who had set up a great spot for us.
In no time at all we were geared up and ready for a ride. Tom was joining us after work that night so it was Mike, Damo, Nickj , Spud and myself that headed out for an afternoon loop.

Friday Sept 29th
The day began with my phone alarm piercing a silent and dark morning. I looked at my watch and as planned it was 4.30 am. My ute was loaded so all I had to do was grab a quick bite of breakie and by 5am I was on the road.
First stop was the 24hr Coles express to fuel up on diesel and premium unleaded.
The drive north along the Clarence River was a wall of fog at times as the cold morning air hit the warm river it created a white out.
The blanket of fog was so thick in spots and it seemed like I was the only human awake and driving out here at that time of day. The forecast was for a clear warm day and you could sense the sun was struggling hard to burn its way through
As I headed through the cane fields the sun finally started to win its battle and visibility began to improve.

Ducking does not always work. Especially where I live.

Weather looks perfect, bike is ready and I am getting very excited. This was a great ride last year and I am very keen to see what Mike has mapped out for us this time. :woohoo:

Nice edit Scotty
Your camera is doing a good job. I reckon just tilt it up a little bit and it will be perfect.
Those trails look awesome. Between you and Mal you are making me very jealous. I have ridden the Blue Mountains and Central West three times now and seen nothing like that. You boys certainly have some sweet trails stashed away.STM
Welcome aboard Rach!
I am sure you will have a ball with Kat on your 650.
She has skills whether holding onto bars or sitting in them :laugh:Enjoy.

You name the weekend and I will do my best to get there mate. Very keen to take my new bike for a lap around you place!
Late October could be a goer looking at the other OBT rides that are going on.STM
