Ollie I know I spend some time behind you but if I’m not there who is gonna get your bike up the hills?
P.s. The dog is actually on the heavy side for a whippet , bit like its owner!Well just finished the pretty up & now for the serious stuff…ride it
Hey Ollie I managed to put it up with out you beating me to it!!!!!! :woohoo:
So after ridin at the MX track on tuesday & finding a few loose bolts (on the shock linkage was a wake up) I got a call from the boys to go to the bush. Well I went & had a another great test ride, I’ve still got a sore foot from where it kicked me back but I made a quick release for the footpeg & now I can get my whole foot on the start lever which makes a big difference.
Now the ride itself was better than expected, its cornering, stoping & jumping the way I’d hoped (just need more practice starting it).
I also found that I need to give some attention to the transmission as it started shifting to 2nd to early but thats just some maintenance.
The only future problem I’ve found so far is that it dosen’t like to sit idling (with a sore foot I didn’t want to turn it off) & get’s a little hot, but I’ve got a few things to ponder.1. The waterpump cover is plastic & warps under pressure (but I’ve found an alloy one for next time).
2. I’ve got a waterpump gasket that is twice as thick as a standard one, (trying to use a reinforced rubber so it dosen’t blow out) so I might not be getting optimal flow from the Pump.
3. I’ve got a couple of joiners in the piping system so the flow might be slightly restricted.
&
4th. The radiators on it are fairly old, but I,ve got a new pair waiting to go.At the moment The bike has been torn down so the frame can be powder coated as I’m sure that it dosen’t need to be welded or cut anymore & I can start the pretty it up process.
While thats away being done I’ve got my spare engine to start building which will be interesting as I start to learn the in’s & out’s of a 3 speed auto box & try to source the sprag bearings & associated parts that I need, shuold be fun:woohoo: .
Cheers for now,
Speedy. That’s because you have so many bikes in bits that you don’t know which brand to be loyal too except the 1 thats running at the time, Has that merc moved yet? lol
And yes it is only the depth that varies but not all of us need to decompress to get fresh air!!!!

I’m extremely impressed you’ve got it up and now running. Looking forward to the beastie (what did you call it – the Nauto) throwing roost al over me at the next OB Trail Ride
Cheers
IvaYep its gunna be a whole lota fun but as to ridin where rego is required, that might take some time to find out the legalities of whats needed. The fact that both bikes had rego & ADR should help but the RTA is sure to try & stop me getting rego too easy, just another part of the fun.:woohoo:
If anyone out there knows how to go about registering this type of toy please let me know.
Hi all
Well I finally went & test road my Nauto yesterday at Appin MX track (short walk to the car if all goes wrong) & all went fairly smooth apart from the rear shock needs rebuilding & a spring to suit my fat arse & not checking the silencer bolts where tight.
Apart from that the only thing I need to modify is the kick start arangement as it only allows 85% travel of the ful kick start stroke & my foot needs to be at a 45 degree angle to the kickstart (toe’s out) in order to allow my boot to go under the foot peg at the bottom of the stroke, so I’m looking into it.The actual riding itself was rather nervous at first as my trust in my own manufacturing was a little guarded at first,
but once I got the feel & adjusted the bars & brake levers to suit I started to have a fair bit of fun. My impresion so far is that it is going to be great fun as it hooks up nicely (even in really greasey stuff) & even though the rear shock was average it still cornered reasonably well. I’m thankfull so far that it hasn’t turned out to be a pig, but starting it with a sore foot after it biting me the other day is anoying especially as in this frame the kick start is about 3″ higher than the old frame so combining the awkward kicking action as well as having to find something to stand on & my aching foot gave me great inspiration not to stop.
All said & done I’m a fat man rolling in the provervbial with a bit more tinkering to do.
Till next time
Speedy.
P.s. will try & get some video soon.Ollie wrote:Trailboss wrote:Ollie wrote:SPEEDY wrote:Hi I’m Speedy & I was going to keep my Nauto (Newauto) under wraps until I finished getting the bugs out & present it with a fresh set of plastic’s, a powder coated frame & a really good clean up but some people just can’t keep it too themselves can they OLLIE.
Sorry
Sorry my arse give him a playful smack in the head like he gave Micknmeld when Mick gave up the secret to me only (not the Internet) about his XR Speedy
Nah I’ll just leave him and his bike at the bottom of the hill instead of riding it up for him like last time & not let him ride my Nauto!!!!!
TB
That was different I told him not to let on that I got a BRP !
Ollie
Not sure if I can fit a pipe gaurd as the clearance from the pipe to front wheel is really close,
But old mate the pipe builer said he’d build me another one……………… for the same price!
That’s what the testing will show up I guess.Husky frame’s are still chrome moly steel
SpeedyHi I’m Speedy & I was going to keep my Nauto (Newauto) under wraps until I finished getting the bugs out & present it with a fresh set of plastic’s, a powder coated frame & a really good clean up but some people just can’t keep it too themselves can they OLLIE.
For those out there I’m not an engineer just too much time in the shed with plenty of beer so give it a go & make your own war horse.
Those of you with a keen eye will notice a fair few frame & swing arm mods had to be done to allow the engine to sit properly acording to where the chain runs & where the exhaust port is located(exhaust port on the 88 is much higher than 07 250 wr & that the 88 engine is longer than the 250), once the engine was in place working the Left side kick start out was the next problem & that had a few clearance issuse’s.
One of the real pains was having to make an intake manifold as the 88 model airfilter is located on the right handside, so the intake had to be made to come in from the left for the 07 airbox & there was alot of cutting adjusting & readjusting to get the right angle for the carby to sit properly.(dont have too many beers while doing this as you will have to do it again sober)
Then the radiators needed to be relocated & all the plumbing sorted (hoping it don’t run hot).
Then came the fun of trying to find some one who can build an expansion chamber & muffler to the proper specs & not just to bodge it together, Once I fround the right bloke I just had to send him the bike (Broadford) & wait & wait & wait some more as he is really good at what he does but it is at his pace, I cant complain though as the job is exactly what I wanted & his price was on par with buying off the self Pro circuit stuff (which I still would have had to modify).
Now after a few time consuming niggly’s that have reared their head I’m hoping to go testing 2moro.
I’m hoping all goes well & that Rec rego comes in as i’m not sure how it would go getting through rego even though both bike’s came with ADR & where previously rego’ed (frame & donor engine).
P.S. I had a big reminder this arvo about respect & half kicking a big bore 2stroke, dont do it as it’s painful !!! -
