What would the chances be of getting one of your stockers off you as a spare to play with? If so how much would you want.
Also could I bend up a set of headers for her on my mates pipe bender? If it could be done easy enough does any one know what size tube would be good to make a set of free flowing headers?

Yep hearing you there. That’s one thing car’s plastics don’t tend to touch too much. I really only want to do it for a car/bike show next year then once the show is over she’ll get her war scars back and probably the stock plastics and repaint the others for the next show.

Is checking and adjusting the valves an easy task? I am by no means a mechanic but I’m not afraid to read and learn and try my hand at most things. I would really like to do all the mechanical work on her myself as I think I will have her for years to come and don’t have the coin to fill other’s pockets if it is something I can do once learnt. I have a workshop manual on my PC which I would assume would detail it, any other links that would be helpful, tips, tricks and tooling that would help me? Thanks

Thanks Mike I will have a look at US ebay. I have been doing alot of reading and one product keeps coming up. It is suppose to be an internal sealer for plastic tanks and if done correctly should seal them. I have the product writen down some were, if any one wants to know the name I will dig it out for you.
As for the fairing plastics if you treat them like plastic bumpers on cars they shouldn’t scratch easily. You have to prep them properly then use a good quality plastic primer then paint and clear.

I put a new plug in it last week. Not sure of the last time it had a valve adjustment. I have noticed this week it seems a hell of a lot easier to start, even cold, first kick just about every time. If it isn’t first kick, which 9 times out of 10 it is, it will be second. If it isn’t second then it won’t start and I have to to the above mentioned start procedure then it goes on first kick.

That’s the hard part Mike, not sure what parts I need or should get. Sprokets should be purchased as a set with chains and kept together I have been told ;) thanks Mike. Maybe an exhaust, but if it is any good I doubt you would have one laying around it would still be on your bike. replacement carb with larger jets, once again probably would still be on your bike not just laying around. Not sure what else you can use to make a bike go quicker without pulling the motor down.

Oh and one other thing, when I first got her I could kick her till I was blue in the face and it wouldn’t start and a mate said find tdc then go just past then give her a quick flick of the throttle then kick her. Since doing that she basicaly always starts first kick but I’m asuming that is why if it doesn’t she floads. Would this be correct? What can I change on her, if this is the case, to remove the little flick of the throttle?

That worked like a dream when I went over twice to the left but when I went to my right I think I must have held the throttle open and give her a real gut full. I sat there for a good half hour giving her three good kicks from just past tdc then would turn off the fuel and ignition and do the decomp/full throttle and 10 or more kicks then try it all over again. I can tell you I was stuffed. That is why I asked about the above link. Has any one had a pig not want to strat like that?
On another note I have noticed that if she doesn’t start the first or second kick then I have to clear her then try again, she will start then first time, no matter if it is cold or warm it is like this, is this normal with the xr’s?

Does the Mikuni carb make that much difference to a near stock XR600? or is it more for a bike with some work done to it?

Oh I almost forgot, over the last couple weeks I did give her a carby clean, inside, outside and jets, cleaned and re-oilded the uni filter, new plug, flushed and cleaned all my tank and fuel filter, lubed all her cables and replaced the push cable, installed a set of indicators and new grips. Oh and replaced all grease nipples as they were all blocked and greased her and give the chain a good lubing also, cleaned her breaks and basically give all the plastics a cut and polish to remove all the whiting that was on the red, was ugly and it had to go.

Cheers for the replies. Hello again Mick. Yep Mick is right I’m from country SA. And if I was guided this way by Mike, thanks again. Haven’t really given her too much stick just yet, still getting aquanted, but she will cop it soon though.
